00:00I mean, what they're not saying is that we hate each other on a personal level.
00:02Yeah!
00:03And so, personally, you know, we're all glad to be rid of each other.
00:07But professionally, it's really sad to say goodbye to the characters.
00:11Hi, what's up in style?
00:12We're the cast of Stranger Things.
00:14And today, we're going to be opening some fan mail.
00:21Who wants to go first?
00:23Well, there's one to the group.
00:24Let's start with that!
00:25Let's start with the group. Why not?
00:27That's long!
00:30Stranger Things is more than just a show.
00:34It's a love letter to the pop culture that shaped a generation.
00:37From Spielberg's sense of wonder to Carpenter's chilling horror,
00:40the series weaves together the best of the 80s and beyond into a story that feels both familiar and fresh.
00:46Whether it's a direct homage or a subtle nod,
00:49every reference serves to deepen the show's connection to its influences,
00:53creating a rich tapestry that resonates with fans old and new.
00:57Great writer.
00:58Who wrote that?
00:59The person should write the review.
01:00I know.
01:01Is there a question?
01:02No.
01:03From emotive3don on Reddit.
01:06It's just positivity.
01:08Great Reddit for that.
01:09No question.
01:10Great summary.
01:11Excellent.
01:12I mean, it's really cool to be a part of something that feels like it has a connection that runs so deep.
01:17And I think a lot of the things that it references and pays an homage to are things that have a longevity and a sense of going on.
01:25And I think to be considered amongst that just feels really special.
01:29But I will say that I am so preoccupied with my own feelings about it ending that anyone else's feelings haven't really...
01:35I'm just not really thinking about that.
01:37Yeah.
01:38Thinking about me and how I feel.
01:39How sad I feel.
01:40Do you have anything more you'd like to add to that, Charlie?
01:42I'm so sorry if I picked up a...
01:44No, that's good.
01:45I don't have feelings.
01:46Yeah.
01:47Well, British people don't have any feelings.
01:48No, of course not.
01:49British men?
01:50It's all good.
01:51Let's move on.
01:52We're done.
01:53Oh, these are all like so...
01:55Wow.
01:56Okay.
01:57Robin was the one who figured out how to fight the curse.
01:59Robin deduced that playing the victim's favorite music might be what saves them from Vecna's curse in seconds.
02:04She heard the story from Victor Creel, got busted by Hatch.
02:08This is actually a quiz about how good I am at reading.
02:10Yeah.
02:11You figured out the music thing.
02:12I did.
02:13I did, yeah.
02:14Did you?
02:15Yeah.
02:16I mean...
02:17The character that I play was written to have figured out a piece of information.
02:21How?
02:22How did you figure it out?
02:23Yeah.
02:24We were at the...
02:25We were at the asylum.
02:26I wasn't there.
02:27And you weren't there.
02:28Yes.
02:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:30We were at the asylum and there was some kind of thing of some song.
02:32We heard a song.
02:33Mm-hmm.
02:34And then it was like music is the key.
02:35And then you radio.
02:36Yeah.
02:37Yeah.
02:38Yeah.
02:39I'm like, I think I figured it out.
02:40It's music.
02:41That makes sense.
02:42There's some...
02:43There's the musical connection between the character.
02:44Yeah.
02:45Yeah.
02:46To be explored in future seasons.
02:47Yeah.
02:48Season...
02:49Mm-hmm.
02:50She heard the story of your...
02:51Passed the music room of the...
02:53Wow.
02:54This letter itself was about to answer the question that she had.
02:56Passed on the music room of the institution on the way to the office to wait for the cops
03:02and then worked out the thing that made season four so hyped for months in a few seconds
03:07and shared it with Nancy.
03:09You know, all those edits with your favorite rap or pop song played over the Max floating.
03:14That wouldn't exist without Robin's intelligence.
03:16Oh, fuck.
03:17Wow, yeah.
03:18That's...
03:19You know, Max Mayfield, she would be dead in season four, episode four, if Robin wasn't a genius.
03:22Wow.
03:23Wow, all of these...
03:24Are these more...
03:25My mind had thought they were gonna be questions, but they're more compliments.
03:27Yeah, that was...
03:28Yeah.
03:29That was...
03:30That's nice.
03:31This was written by H...
03:33Bartheon.
03:34Bartheon.
03:35Yeah.
03:36I feel like they're very like-minded with Robin.
03:38Just the way...
03:39I think so.
03:40I think they would have figured it out.
03:41Yeah.
03:42If Robin hadn't.
03:43Yeah, yeah.
03:44That would be so cool to have a Stranger Things that was like choose your own adventure
03:45where you could be like,
03:46It's this!
03:47Oh, yeah.
03:48While you were watching it and then...
03:49Yeah.
03:50They'll build that with AI and we won't get paid for it.
03:52They did scanners.
03:53And then it'll suck, so never mind.
03:54They did scanners.
03:55I love how smart she is because I don't think she's the typical, like, smart nerd character in something.
04:00You know, like she's not just like, you know, take her glasses off and like,
04:04Hey everyone, I think I figured it out.
04:06She's like different and weird and...
04:08But also intelligent and I think that's what I love about the Duffer Brothers writing is that,
04:13you know, they let characters be multi-dimensional and don't force them into like pigeonholed stereotypes.
04:21And I think that that's really...
04:23And even while they play on all these referential, stereotypical characters from the 80s,
04:29they actually let all of these characters be real, individual, unique people that haven't,
04:34you know, been seen exactly the way that they are on television before.
04:37And I think that's really special.
04:38Okay.
04:39Okay.
04:40Hello.
04:41What have we got?
04:42You'll get your compliment.
04:43Joey Eaton.
04:44Jonathan is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders.
04:46Mm-hmm.
04:47Will might not notice that Joyce is struggling.
04:50We see that her job isn't exactly going well.
04:53So money is likely to be an issue, as it ever was, of course.
04:57Yeah.
04:58But Jonathan is old enough to see that.
05:00He has always been family orientated.
05:02It's a very real struggle that countless teens go through,
05:06chasing their own big dreams or staying nearby and helping out their family.
05:10That's true.
05:11Yeah.
05:12If things are hard and tough, Jonathan might want to pursue his own desires,
05:15but he also sees Joyce struggling.
05:17And the struggle between what he wants and what his family needs is very real for him.
05:21Oh.
05:22That's lovely.
05:23They really see him.
05:24They really do see him.
05:25Yeah.
05:26From KCRC.
05:27Thank you, KCRC.
05:28That's always going to be there, you know, I think, with him and his family
05:32and the connection to his brother.
05:34And, you know, that's something that's ever going to go away.
05:37But, you know, hopefully he would want a sense of, like,
05:41also give him a bit of space to, you know, get to do what he wants.
05:46Maybe.
05:47He's only young, I think, right?
05:50Yeah.
05:51Yeah.
05:52Who knows how old we are.
05:54We don't talk about that.
05:56We don't need to bring that up.
05:57No.
05:58You guys will probably do it for us.
06:00Yeah, right.
06:01It's true.
06:02Here's a question.
06:03Why didn't Vecna kill Nancy?
06:05Vecna preys on those with trauma.
06:07Clearly Nancy is still feeling guilt regarding Barb.
06:10Clearly.
06:11Clearly.
06:12He chooses Nancy to tell his story to and show what he plans to do.
06:16But why didn't he kill her?
06:18Does Vecna have a tie to the Wheelers?
06:20From Nelly Music on Reddit.
06:22Curious.
06:23I just love that it's clearly she's still feeling guilt.
06:27Like...
06:28Of course.
06:30I also asked this question to the doctors.
06:34And I think Vecna needed someone to sort of, yes, tell...
06:39A vehicle.
06:40A vehicle.
06:41A vehicle to tell...
06:42You know, to go back and report all of these things that he was going to do.
06:46And I think he...
06:47You know, if he killed her then she wouldn't be able to do that.
06:49So...
06:50It wouldn't be an effective message.
06:52It would be hard to do that.
06:53He likes to spread fear to me, doesn't he?
06:55Yeah, he's a little...
06:56Mostly feared.
06:57He's got some flair.
06:58Yeah.
06:59But I also asked that question.
07:01I've also never thought of this, but he does prey on people who are traumatized
07:05or like going through deep psychological discomfort.
07:08And, of course, you feel a lot of guilt over Bart.
07:12Of course.
07:13And, I mean, you should have seen her every day before filming.
07:16She would go down and she would like lay down some flowers at the...
07:19At a shrine.
07:21It's like, you know, she's...
07:23But Nancy has such a strong mental disposition that maybe she was too strong.
07:30She was like not interesting to him because she had so much...
07:35Yeah, too tough, too strong.
07:36Too much of a challenge.
07:37Yeah.
07:38That's gonna be a lot to break.
07:40Yeah.
07:41Yeah.
07:42That's gonna be...
07:43Oh, that brain?
07:44I can show it some scary movies, but I can't destroy it.
07:47Yeah.
07:48That's a nice interpretation.
07:50Throwing it out there.
07:51I like that.
07:52I like that.
07:53What are you doing?
07:54Ooh, the mail.
07:56The Maya mail.
07:57Here we go.
07:58Maya mail.
07:59Maya mail.
08:00Do you say that all the time when you open your mailbox?
08:01Yeah, I go, oh, Maya mail.
08:03Are yours?
08:04I've got pictures.
08:05Oh, you've got pictures.
08:06Oh, okay.
08:07I absolutely adore Steve and Robin's relationship.
08:09Me too.
08:10Love the scene when Robin and Vicky are talking, making sandwiches, and he just looks over at
08:14them and smiles while he's folding clothes.
08:16He genuinely cares about Robin.
08:17Aw.
08:18I think he does.
08:19He does.
08:20You know?
08:21I think he really does.
08:22And I think that that's...
08:23I love their friendship too, and you know, I say it all the time, but I think that the
08:24way in which the Duffers write friendship and put an emphasis on the importance of friendship
08:30is not just, you know, what makes the show so wonderful, but also is, I think, a good reminder
08:35to all of us.
08:36I think it's so easy to get preoccupied with family and relationships, and those things are
08:41very important and extremely rewarding, but friendship is just a really special category
08:48of relationship, and we all need to, you know, make sure we spend enough time with our friends
08:53and value that highly, and the show is a great reminder of that to me all the time.
08:59Well said.
09:00Oh, fuck.
09:01Me again?
09:02There's some groupies.
09:03There's a couple of groupies.
09:05Let's do some groupies.
09:07Okay.
09:08Hello, groupies.
09:10Okay, everyone, there's only one thing more terrifying than the Upside Down.
09:15Realizing this is the final ride with the Hawkins gang.
09:18Oh.
09:19From Ryan-GZ9XG on YouTube.
09:24Oh, Ryan GZ.
09:25Ryan GZ.
09:27Couldn't agree more.
09:28It's the final ride.
09:30It's gonna be a good one.
09:32It's a good final ride, though.
09:33It's gonna be good.
09:34I think it's gonna be a good one.
09:35Yeah.
09:36It has to be a final ride, at least.
09:37Yeah.
09:38I mean, it's such a gift, I think, to live with these characters and live with these people
09:42that you genuinely like to work with and, you know, let things develop over time.
09:47And then, yeah, then get to be there for the beginning, for the end.
09:51Yeah, it's really special.
09:54I feel very lucky.
09:55Yeah.
09:56I feel like, you know, as an actor, you're always, like, you know, looking at, oh, you know,
09:59this experience, this experience.
10:01But, like, I think what I noticed at the end of this is, like, wow, it's pretty, like,
10:05it's such a rare thing to have, you know, to be able to, yeah, have this experience,
10:09to shoot with the same people for ten years and to act across from them.
10:14And, you know, I don't think any of us will have that again.
10:17Maybe, but probably not.
10:18I don't think so.
10:19So it was like, that was, like, what I loved in its purest, like...
10:22I mean, what they're not saying is that we hate each other on a personal level.
10:25Yeah.
10:26And so, personally, you know, we're all glad to be rid of each other.
10:30Yeah.
10:31But professionally, it's really sad to say goodbye to the characters.
10:34Yeah, yeah.
10:35Yeah, that's it.
10:36But, no, I mean, it's like you...
10:38There's a story someone told me once about doing...
10:41These two friends were doing a play together and someone came back to be, like...
10:45They didn't know that they were friends.
10:46They were like, how did you build that chemistry?
10:48You know, how did you ever...
10:50How did you do that?
10:51I need to learn.
10:52I'm, you know, an actor, too, and I want to learn how to build that kind of chemistry.
10:55And the two actors said, oh, no, we've been friends for 20 years.
10:57And, you know, the person who'd seen the play went, oh, never mind, that's cheating.
11:02And it is cheating.
11:04Because when you have real intimacy with people, when they've seen you on hard days and good days,
11:10there's something in the way that you make eye contact, even across a green screen, that is special.
11:16And, yeah, I feel extremely grateful that I got to join this ride and ride it out to the end with these guys.
11:25Yes.
11:26Even though we hate each other, obviously.
11:28Yes, even though.
11:29Can't forget that.
11:30Did you just read yours?
11:31I can't remember where you are.
11:32Is it mine?
11:33Is it proof?
11:34Whose turn is it?
11:35Whose turn is it?
11:36Oh, look, there's one that has...
11:39Oh, just for us?
11:40Whoa.
11:41Wow.
11:42Hello.
11:43Okay.
11:44Alright.
11:45This is interesting.
11:46What?
11:47Do you guys...
11:48We have...
11:49We've delivered a line to each other.
11:50Okay.
11:51Will Jonathan and Robin have any interaction in season five?
11:58I think they would get on really well.
12:00They seem like they'd get on well if they met each other.
12:03They seem like the same sort of person.
12:05That's so nice.
12:06That is nice.
12:07What a beautiful observation.
12:08Well, you'll have to watch and find out, but you will get lots of TikToks of us getting along quite well.
12:13Cheers.
12:14Nat?
12:15Yeah.
12:16I'll keep this one.
12:17We can get a frame.
12:19This is for me and Maya.
12:22Oh!
12:23Nice.
12:24I personally would like to see more Nancy and Robin moments in S5s.
12:27I feel they have really good chemistry together.
12:29Nancy and Robin are both highly intelligent and their mental talents are complementary.
12:33Intuitive, creative Robin is the first to grasp what's going on.
12:37Rational, analytical Nancy comes up with a plan to deal with this situation.
12:41That's so true.
12:42That is so true.
12:43People are so perceptive.
12:44They are.
12:45That's why it works.
12:46I'm glad that people really...
12:48Are you guys new?
12:49This one?
12:50Yeah.
12:51Did you already say it?
12:52I just was...
12:53I don't know.
12:54It's nice to say.
12:55Yeah.
12:56Camp Circle.
12:57Camp Circle on Reddit.
12:58You guys are great together too.
12:59I love those scenes.
13:01I mean, there's some more stuff for us.
13:03We definitely don't have...
13:04Season four is definitely the Nancy and Robin season.
13:07Yeah.
13:08But I think what's so beautiful about this season, hopefully, is that kind of
13:11all your favorite things will get at least a moment.
13:15You know?
13:16Yeah.
13:17Everyone gets a moment.
13:18Go ahead.
13:19This is the one I said uh-oh too.
13:20I don't know why.
13:21It's crazy.
13:22Do you want me to read it?
13:23You read it.
13:24You read it.
13:25This is for me and Nat.
13:26Are the Jonathan and Nancy fans loving all the shots of them together from the trailer?
13:30They're going through it this season, but they're going through it together.
13:33Yeah.
13:34Yeah.
13:35That's a question.
13:36Ah, the Jonathan and Nancy fans.
13:37Right.
13:38It's not a question for us.
13:39It's a question for other people.
13:40Oh!
13:41The proverbial like-
13:42Lizzie and Limbo on Reddit.
13:43I mean, again, I feel like there's a lot of things that we can't really speak to.
13:46But yeah, but everyone's together and I think you'll definitely get, you know, interactions
13:52in a sense of where they are.
13:54I feel like I can say my favorite scene in the whole season is the scene with the two
13:58of you.
13:59Um, like maybe one of my favorite scenes in the entire five seasons.
14:04No pressure.
14:05Oh.
14:06What?
14:07Um.
14:08But thank you.
14:09Or at least on the page.
14:10On the page.
14:11Yeah.
14:12On the page.
14:13On the page.
14:14Yeah.
14:15No, it's, uh, yeah, they get some really beautiful stuff this season.
14:18Yeah.
14:19Uh, yeah.
14:20They are going through it.
14:21Are we still going?
14:22Yeah, we're still going.
14:23We're still going.
14:24I got one more.
14:25I got another one.
14:26I think this is my last question.
14:27I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I saw a post recently where Robin could be classed
14:30as a D&D bard since she has good communication skills like translating the Russian code,
14:35finding relevant info in the newspaper archives, figuring out music, helps escape Bekna's curse,
14:40convincing all the people are really into how smart Robin is, convincing the warden of Pennhurst
14:44to let her and Robin visit Victor someday.
14:46I'll tell you what I think about that.
14:48Um, it's speculated that Robin is the host of the WSQK radio show.
14:52Ooh, who's speculating that?
14:53Um, do you think this is where she grows more into her role as a D&D bard?
14:58Or does anyone else see her fitting another D&D class or role?
15:02Wow, that's so cool.
15:03It is cool.
15:04Do you know what a D&D bard is?
15:05No.
15:06No, me neither.
15:07I learned today that it's not D and D.
15:10Yeah, you were saying that.
15:12But it is Dungeons and Dragons.
15:13But it is Dungeons and Dragons.
15:15That's why I thought it was D and D.
15:17Yeah, yeah, yeah. You said that earlier.
15:18I would assume the same thing though.
15:19But it's N.
15:20Why?
15:21I think it's just for the shortness of it, right?
15:23Because it looks better.
15:24Um, a bard, I'm guessing it's like a sub-genre of character.
15:27I'm sure it's a character.
15:29Yeah, yeah.
15:30And I know what a bard, like Shakespeare is the bard.
15:32Mm.
15:33So if I...
15:34Okay.
15:35So maybe they mean kind of like a narrator?
15:36Yeah, a narrator.
15:37Yeah.
15:38Yeah, good at communication.
15:39She's translating.
15:40It's not the...
15:41It's a type of role.
15:42This is how people used to figure out what things were before Google, kids.
15:45This is...
15:46It's a type of role that you can be, right?
15:49In D&D you can choose it.
15:51So that's nice.
15:52The host.
15:53She's the host.
15:54She's the squawk radio host.
15:55So yeah, I think you're right.
15:56I think you're right on the money.
15:57I think so too.
15:58And you should play it.
15:59And I should play it.
16:00I think you should.
16:01I love that ready weekend 1594.
16:04I also really...
16:061594.
16:07I also really would love to play D&D someday.
16:09I think it's totally pathetic that I haven't.
16:11I would really like to.
16:12Yeah.
16:13I played online during the pandemic.
16:15The pandemic?
16:16Right?
16:17There was some kind of...
16:18It was really confusing though.
16:19So I think playing it in person would be fun.
16:21I'd really like to do that.
16:22Do we keep going?
16:23Yeah.
16:24Wow.
16:25We've got five minutes.
16:26Should we do one nap?
16:27Okay.
16:28Yeah.
16:29I think we've got a couple more in there.
16:30Two more.
16:31Oh my god.
16:32You've got some work.
16:33Here.
16:34I actually think Nancy has objectively one of the strongest character arcs across the series so far.
16:38Yep.
16:39I agree.
16:40She's had consistent, progressive character growth with clear objectives each season,
16:44is always driving the action of the story rather than passively assisting in it,
16:48and none of her development has come at the expense of her original character traits.
16:53She's retained a lot of the same qualities, smart, principled, ambitious, fearless, and flaws,
16:58single-minded, impulsive.
17:00She's always had, but has become a more mature version of herself,
17:04and her season arcs always seem to build on each other.
17:07That's lovely.
17:08Yeah.
17:09I feel like I'm always so grateful to the doctors for just giving Nancy this story.
17:15It's been so fun, honestly.
17:19It's that thing of the characters growing up, and you're growing up at the same time.
17:23I just felt really lucky that I get to inhabit that.
17:28Don't shortchange yourself, though.
17:29You fiercely protect that character, and what makes sense for her and what doesn't,
17:36and remembering where she started and where you're going.
17:39You're extremely diligent and vigilant about that as an actor, and it's all important.
17:49I don't, yeah, I'm just, you know, I'm just doing the things.
17:52No, you do some action stuff.
17:54People think it's cool.
17:55I think it's cool.
17:56Yeah.
17:57You're gonna think it's cool.
17:58This is fun.
17:59This season was fun.
18:00I think across the board, though, I think everybody gets to be a bit of a badass.
18:05Thanks for opening the fan mail with us.
18:07Be sure to catch us on Stranger Things.
18:08Probably on Netflix.
18:09Amazing.
