Frank Vincent, who played the vicious mob boss Phil Leotardo on 'The Sopranos,' has died. He was 78.

00:01Frank Vincent, who played the mob boss Phil Leotardo on The Sopranos, died on Wednesday.

00:07He was 78.

00:08The actor died of complications from heart surgery in New Jersey, according to reports from The Blast and TMZ.

00:14Vincent also portrayed a trio of memorable tough guys for director Martin Scorsese and 1980's Raging Bull,

00:201990's Goodfellas, and 1995's Casino, one of my favorites.

00:25On HBO's hit show The Sopranos, Leotardo often butted heads with James Gandolfini's Tony Soprano,

00:30as he eventually rose to become boss of his crime family.

00:34Vincent said in a 2011 interview, he didn't fool around.

00:37Phil was serious.

00:38He had a job to do, and he thought, you know, the Soprano guys from Jersey.

00:43What does that mean?

00:44We're New Yorkers.

00:45The Jersey mob is nothing.

00:47They don't even prick their fingers when they do the ceremony.

00:50Some of the writing for Phil was just brilliant.

00:52Yeah, that was my Phil impression.

00:55The actor's film resume also included The Pope of Greenwich Village, Brian DePalma's Wise Guys, Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing, and Jungle Fever,

01:03Sidney Lumet's Night Falls on Manhattan, James Mangold's Copland, Shark Tale, and Chicago Overcoat.

01:10Vincent also appeared in Hype Williams' Belly in 1998.

01:14And get this, he served as the official acting coach to rappers DMX, Nas, and Method Man in the film.

01:20In 2006, Vincent co-wrote the book, A Guy's Guide to Being a Man's Man.
