00:00The United States begins its year-long presidency of the G20 today,
00:05stepping in at a time of sharp tension with outgoing chairs South Africa.
00:10Washington says its focus will be on global economic growth and practical outcomes.
00:16In a statement, the State Department said it wants to push essential reforms,
00:20cut regulatory burdens, strengthen energy supply chains,
00:24and support the development of emerging technologies.
00:26Next year's G20 summit will be held in Miami at a golf resort owned by U.S. President Donald Trump.
00:34He has already said South Africa will not be invited.
00:37The U.S. did not attend this year's summit in Johannesburg,
00:41accusing South Africa of misusing its leadership role.
00:44South African President Cyril Ramaphosa rejected the criticism,
00:48insisting his country remained a full and constructive member of the G20.
00:52He also dismissed as false Trump's repeated claims
00:56that South Korea is committing genocide against Africaners or seizing land from white citizens.
