00:00¡Gracias!
00:02¡Gracias!
00:04Para los amazing AcroCats.
00:06Los amazing AcroCats son un truco de former
00:08orfans rescues y strays.
00:28A lot of the problem in shelters
00:30is from people relinquishing their cats
00:32for behavioral issues.
00:34So a trained cat doesn't have as many
00:36behavioral issues. Clicker Training,
00:38which is all positive reinforcement,
00:40can help a lot of behavioral issues
00:42and keep cats in households
00:44where they're loved and appreciated.
00:46We are now an official 501c3.
00:48We do foster and rescue
00:50and we also have a brand new program.
00:52We go to shelters, teach them
00:54how to clicker train to increase
00:56feline adoption rates.
00:58So many benefits, just like knowing behavior.
01:00And literally, it doesn't take that long.
01:02Five, ten minutes a day isn't that much
01:04to ask for an animal that you're
01:06you've committed to.
01:08You're committed.
01:10Since 2009, I fostered and found homes
01:12for 256 cats and kittens
01:14through AcroCats.
01:16I started the show in 2005.
01:18I had a very special cat named Tuna
01:20and she was kind of the catalyst behind everything.
01:22I had about six cats in the troop at that point
01:24and I wanted to add another cat to the troop.
01:26I wanted it to be a rescue cat.
01:28So I thought, well, I'll foster a litter
01:30and then I'll train them all
01:31and then keep the best one.
01:32They sent me to an intake facility
01:34in Chicago to get my first litter.
01:36They take me to the kitten room
01:38and they said, well, take your pick.
01:40Whoever you don't take is on, you know,
01:42line to be euthanized today.
01:44So I took, so I took 12.
01:46Took all 12.
01:48Now the other reason I put the show together
01:52was to inspire people to train their own cats.
01:54Because you can train your cat
01:56to do everything you see our cats do
01:58with something called clicker training.
02:00It is a type of training
02:02that involves positive reinforcement only.
02:04So if they do something that we like,
02:06high five, we click and give them a treat.
02:08We kind of ignore the bad stuff.
02:10It's a great way to bond with your cat.
02:12Give them mental stimulus, physical activity,
02:16and it can even save their life.
02:20They're capable of so much more
02:22than people give them credit for.
02:24And, you know, the kind of,
02:26the mission of AcroCats kind of shifted
02:28when I did that first set of rescue kittens
02:30and realized that there was a problem.
02:33You know, you know,
02:34you know that there's a pet overpopulation problem.
02:36You hear about it, but until you're thrust into it,
02:38you're sent to a shelter where they're euthanizing
02:42hundreds of cats every day.
02:44I mean, that's when it really hits you.
02:46And you're like, you know,
02:48at least I can help.
02:50We can reach so many rescues across the country.
02:54Like my goal is to just really train a lot of the staff,
02:58all the animal welfare organizations,
03:00because a cat that is clicker trained is going to be adopted
03:04and is going to stay in that home
03:06because no one's really going to give up a cat
03:08that knows how to like ride a skateboard
03:10or jump through a hoop or give her a high five.
03:12Like that's like a bonding experience.
03:14I mean, these cats are everything to me.
03:16You know, like, I mean, I've spent my life, blood, money,
03:20you know, everything goes towards these cats, so.
03:24That's dope.
03:26That's great!
03:28Great!
