Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch says that Sir Keir Starmer is "taking a begging bowl to China" because he has "run down the economy". The Tory leader also criticised the Prime Minister for "striking the wrong balance" in UK-China relations and for "only now" saying that China is a 'threat' to the UK's national security, after the collapse of the Parliamentary spying case and the government's approval of the new Chinese embassy building. 00:00No, they're striking the wrong balance.
00:02What the Prime Minister should have done was ensure that for the court case where we saw alleged spies in our parliament,
00:09that he told the Crown Prosecution Service that China was a threat.
00:14Instead, they sent evidence saying actually, you know, China's not that bad or worse to that effect.
00:19That was completely wrong.
00:20It's only now he's saying China's not a threat after that case has closed.
00:24What we actually see is Keir Starmer set to approve a new Chinese super embassy
00:29that people have a lot of security concerns about.
00:31We are worried about our national security.
00:33And he's doing this because he's run down the economy, he doesn't have any answers,
00:37and he's taking a begging bowl to China.
