At the 'Happy Gilmore 2' premiere, Adam Sandler chats with THR and talks about putting his hockey jersey back on for the sequel and says it was "tight." Plus, he dishes on working with Bad Bunny and Travis Kelce.
Transcript
00:00What was it like putting on the hockey jersey for the first time in 30 years?
00:08Tight, tighter than you want.
00:10Hockey jerseys, never tight on anybody somehow.
00:13It was snug on my shoulders and my gut, so we just upped the size, and it felt, let's make a movie.
00:19So what was the moment for you that goes, you know what, let's do this.
00:23Let's revisit Happy Story.
00:25I don't remember the one moment.
00:27I know that last couple of years we were banging around the idea of seeing Happy older and what his life was like,
00:35and then we kind of, me and Tim Hurley, who wrote the original one, we wrote together.
00:41We started getting excited about some thoughts, and then we started outlining movie,
00:47and then all of a sudden we got really excited about what we were talking about.
00:51And grabbing new friends along the way, like Benito and Travis, can you see them?
00:55Can you work with them down the road and other projects that you have coming up?
00:59I mean, it would be ridiculous.
01:00They were both so confident and so funny, they're going to go on and do whatever the hell they want.
01:07But I'd love to do something with them again because I got very friendly with both of them, and I love them both.
01:12What would you say was your happy place 30 years ago versus today?
01:16I certainly ate enough back in the day that the happy place was certainly involving quarter pounders,
01:23and now today we're trying to find a happy place of, you know, a half a quarter pounder and calming down.
01:32What was the feedback for you seeing the nostalgia factor that everybody grasped onto once you announced this?
01:38It was exciting and, like, it made me feel like I didn't want to let them down, wanted to work hard,
01:46put out a movie that they all can click with and remind them of the old days
01:51and bring them to some new funny stuff and a family stuff, and just, we worked as hard as we could to be proud of it.
01:59Stepping on set, did it feel like click, though, because it felt like yesterday you ended happy?
02:03Yeah, man, yeah, yeah, it felt kind of weird.
02:06It felt like it brought back great memories of people that I work with,
02:11and when Stiller came by the set and we looked at each other, we laughed our asses off.
02:16It was just kind of like, it's kind of a weird feeling.
02:19It's a long time in between the two.
