00:00Lily-Rose Depp is defending her controversial HBO Max series The Idol,
00:04which some have dubbed overly graphic and even torture porn.
00:09Speaking to co-star Troye Sivan for Vogue Australia, the 24-year-old actress talked
00:14about the series, which chronicles the toxic relationship between a spiraling singer,
00:18played by Depp, and her new mentor-slash-lover, played by The Weeknd.
00:30I was never interested in making something puritanical. It's okay if this show isn't
00:34for everyone, and that's fine. I think all the best art is polarizing. I've never felt more
00:39respected and more safe on a set, honestly. She added,
00:43So when it comes to the nudity and the risque nature of the role, that to me was really
00:47intentional. That was really important to me and something that I was excited about doing.
00:51I'm not scared of it. I think we live in a highly sexualized world. I think that's an
00:55interesting thing to explore. Depp has previously said in an interview with HBO that the show's
01:00intimacy coordinators are an essential part of any shoot that involves intimate scenes.
01:05The Idol has broken HBO's prestige drama streak, having only racked up a 22% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
