Disney is developing a live-action remake of its 1997 animated movie 'Hercules.'
Transcript
00:00Disney is going from zero to hero with a new live-action remake of its 1997 animated classic
00:11Hercules. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that in addition to a remake in the works,
00:15the studio has hired writer David Callaham, who launched the Expendables franchise and
00:19wrote the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, as well as Marvel's upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend
00:24of the Ten Rings. In addition to this, the Rousseau brothers, Joe and Anthony Rousseau,
00:28who are the filmmakers behind The Avengers Endgame and Infinity War, are set to produce
00:33via their AGBO banner. The 1997 pick is a musical fantasy retelling of the famous Greek legend that
00:39finds the demigod Hercules looking to reclaim his heroic stature, with of course plenty of
00:44the trademark comedic banter and music that only Disney can pull off.
00:54Although the new Hercules is still in early development, casting rumors have already
00:58begun to swirl in recent weeks. This was partially kick-started by Ariana Grande's
01:02performance of the movie's I Won't Say I'm In Love during the Disney family sing-along,
01:07and spurred a petition for her to play Megara, the female lead.
01:17Elsewhere, Idris Elba and Ryan Gosling's names have also been floating around by fans,
01:22but again, the project is still very much in its early stages.
