00:09Of the 102 acting nominations in the series, limited series and TV movie fields announced
00:14Tuesday, Black performers secured 35 nominations among 33 actors, with Maya Rudolph and Giancarlo
00:21Esposito being nominated twice. The 34.3% of nominations represents an all-time high for
00:27Black actors, besting the previous record of 27.7% two years ago. Eleven of the 34 leading
00:33acting nominees are Black, including repeat honorees Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross
00:38for Black-ish, Don Cheadle for Black Monday, three-time nominee Kerry Washington for Little
00:43Fires Everywhere, and three-time winner Regina King for Watchmen. In the supporting categories,
00:48Black actors earned 14 of 44 nominations. Others to receive top acting nominations include Zendaya,
00:54Billy Porter, and Sterling K. Brown, among others. Other people of color, though, were largely shut
01:00out of the acting fields, and the writing and directing category still remain largely in the
01:04province of white men, even as the industry has a reckoning with inclusion and diversity.
01:09Only three other non-white performers, Sandra Oh for Killing Eve, Dev Patel for Modern Love,
01:14and Rami Youssef for Rami, earned acting nominations. Seven people of color were nominated for writing,
01:19Meanwhile, only three women of color received directing nods. Dime Davis for HBO's A Black
01:24Lady Sketch Show, Linda Mendoza for Netflix's Tiffany Haddish Presents They Ready, and Nadia
