00:00How does it feel to be here tonight, finally premiering this final film?
00:03It is wild. I've been attached to this since 2015,
00:08so it's been an eight-year journey of stops and starts,
00:12and I'm so happy that we're finally here with the final adventure
00:16for the greatest adventure of them all.
00:18It's beyond exciting. It really is.
00:20How did you want to send Harrison Ford off with this film?
00:24That's a really good question. I think send him off authentically.
00:27And I think this is a story about an adventurer who's coming to the end of their career,
00:35and it's a very fitting send-off.
00:37It's a send-off that suits the character,
00:41and it's something we really strive for.
00:43Make sure we weren't doing something that felt too superhero-y
00:46and actually it's appropriate to where the character is in his life.
00:49There are so many fans of the franchise here today.
00:52What are you most excited for fans to see in this film?
00:55Again, that's a really good question.
00:56I mean, there is so much.
00:58It is. There's everything in this movie.
01:00There's every kind of action sequence.
01:02There's scenes in this I think will move people
01:05in a way that Indiana Jones may not have done before.
01:07I mean, it's a very emotional movie, particularly in the last acts,
01:12and I think that's something that's going to be really exciting for people.
01:15Again, it's an emotional send-off to an iconic character.
01:17Of course, technology in filmmaking is in a much different place today
01:21than it was when the first film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, was released.
01:25How did you want to show that new technology in this film,
01:27but also balance it with the practical effects
01:29that fans of the franchise know and love the franchise for?
01:32I think that's something we talked about a lot,
01:34and what we're always trying to do is to use technology
01:37to enhance what we're doing for real.
01:40And obviously we can talk about, if one knows, the de-aging back to 1944,
01:43but the fact that it is Harrison Ford, the fact that it's him,
01:48and even the imagery, the face replacement, is actually Harrison Ford,
01:53means I think you're using the technology in the best way,
01:55where it feels authentic.
01:56It doesn't feel like something that a lot of people are trying to create.
02:00It's a singular performance that then other people are helping to enhance,
02:04and I think that's really exciting.
02:05Then I'm just going to say, safety-wise, for me,
02:08that's what technology is in these movies,
02:10is doing thrilling action in a way that's safer than it's ever been,
02:15and it doesn't compromise how it feels,
02:17and it absolutely doesn't compromise on safety.
02:19That's true.
02:20In the past, to blow up a car, you really had to blow up a car.
02:23Absolutely.
02:24And I think just even the painting out of safety rigs and things like that,
02:27where you can put people in incredibly exciting situations,
02:31but that, for me, is the best use of technology,
02:33and certainly something that Jim Mangold talked about all the time.
02:36He wanted this to feel like the original movies,
02:39and I think he accomplished that, and some.
02:41And this is the first film that Steven Spielberg is not directing in the franchise,
02:45and James Mangold is the director.
02:46Why do you think he was the perfect director for this film?
02:50I think Jim has an incredible body of work.
02:52He's got such a varied body of work,
02:55and I think these movies capture so many different things in one,
02:59and to have someone like Jim, who's got so much experience with action,
03:03I think with incredible performances,
03:05with capturing the fun, with capturing the emotion.
03:08So I think stepping into Steven Spielberg's shoes,
03:10I mean, that's tough,
03:11and I think Jim is a wonderful, wonderful choice.
03:13My goodness.
