00:00HBO Max is defending its Harry Potter reboot, as many criticized the streamer's decision to remake the Potter books into a series with an entirely new cast.
00:10Max, formerly known as HBO Max, announced its official plans to remake J.K. Rowling's beloved best-selling fantasy novels into a faithful, long-form series to roll out over a period of 10 years.
00:22The ambitious project will cast new leads and include far more detail from the seven novels than their previous film adaptations, which launched with 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
00:34Rowling will be involved with the new series as an executive producer.
00:38Many consider the author's involvement offensive due to her repeated opinions about the trans community.
00:43Out Magazine tweeted,
00:44We don't want any new Harry Potter content if noted transphobe J.K. Rowling is involved.
00:50Entertainment podcaster Dave Gonzalez tweeted,
00:53Fans also enter the conversation with one writing,
01:04J.K. Rowling should make an interesting executive producer of the new Harry Potter series, given that she doesn't seem to understand any of the themes of her work.
01:12Casey Blois, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, noted,
01:17J.K. Rowling herself released a statement which read,
01:35Max's commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation,
01:42which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.
01:48Whether all this will have any impact on the show itself remains to be seen.
