Tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela are spiraling as President Trump intensifies military and economic pressure on Nicolás Maduro. A CNN report claims Maduro privately suggested stepping down within 18 months, triggering speculation that he may be cracking under strain. Washington, however, demanded an immediate exit and escalated further by shutting Venezuelan airspace and deploying major naval assets. Caracas calls the moves “colonialist threats,” while both sides brace for a possible military showdown as fears of full-scale war grow.

00:00Tensions between the United States and Venezuela are escalating by the day,
00:21especially as President Trump dials up the heat on his counterpart, Nicolas Maduro.
00:28Reports are now emerging, which indicate that Maduro may be cracking under pressure from Trump and the weight of U.S. military might.
00:41According to CNN, Maduro, in a call with President Trump last week,
00:48indicated his readiness to step down as Venezuela's president within the next 18 months.
00:55The report adds that Maduro's administration reached out to representatives of President Trump
01:03in an effort to establish dialogue between the two countries,
01:08which have been locked in a tense conflict for the past three months.
01:15CNN noted that some U.S. officials viewed the 18-month resignation timeline
01:21as an acceptable solution to the crisis.
01:25However, the White House insisted that Maduro must resign immediately.
01:32Following the call, Trump, on November 29th,
01:36announced that Venezuelan airspace had been closed in its entirety.
01:43Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the move as a colonialist threat,
01:49accusing Washington of violating the country's sovereignty
01:53and committing what it called yet another illegal and unjustified aggression.
02:00In recent weeks, U.S. forces have deployed the USS Gerald R. Ford,
02:07the world's largest aircraft carrier to the Caribbean,
02:11along with roughly 16,000 troops, advanced F-35 jets, B-2 stealth bombers,
02:20and more than a dozen additional U.S. warships.
02:25The U.S. military has also carried out a series of lethal strikes
02:30on vessels it claims were tied to narcotics operations.
02:35United Nations experts have condemned those missions
02:39as possible extrajudicial killings.
02:43The confrontation widened further this week
02:45when President Trump signaled that the U.S. could soon target alleged trafficking routes by land.
02:53Even though Maduro, in a nationally televised address,
02:57ordered his armed forces to remain on high alert
03:00and declared that Venezuela will not be intimidated,
03:05if this CNN report is accurate,
03:08the situation behind closed doors may be very different.
03:14Will there be a full-scale U.S.-Venezuela war?
03:18Or will Venezuela ultimately surrender?
03:23That shall be known in the coming days.
