Washington and Caracas are edging dangerously close to open conflict as the U.S. reportedly rehearses airstrikes inside Venezuela, triggering global alarm. Trump’s declaration closing all Venezuelan airspace has intensified the standoff, with warnings of possible land operations targeting alleged trafficking routes. Maduro blasts the move as illegal aggression, deploying 5,000 Russian Igla-S missiles and placing forces on high alert. With massive U.S. assets positioned nearby, both sides trade escalating threats, raising fears of a full-scale regional war.

00:00Tensions between the United States and Venezuela are simmering, and could boil over into a
00:24full-blown war at any moment, as both President Trump and President Maduro refuse to bow down.
00:33In the latest move, which many analysts call a provocation, the United States is apparently
00:39rehearsing airstrikes against Venezuela deep inside its territory.
00:45This has been reported by the Wall Street Journal, and comes just hours after Trump declared
00:51that the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela was closed in its entirety.
00:58In a social media post, President Trump warned, quote,
01:03To all airlines, pilots, drug dealers and human traffickers, consider the airspace above and
01:10surrounding Venezuela closed in its entirety.
01:15Caracas publicly denounced President Donald Trump's latest directive, declaring all air
01:21airspace above and around Venezuela closed in its entirety.
01:26In a statement Saturday, Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the move a colonialist
01:32threat, accusing Washington of violating the country's sovereignty and committing what it
01:38described as yet another illegal and unjustified aggression.
01:46What further raises the fears of a full-scale war is the fact that Trump had signaled just
01:51this week that the U.S. could soon target alleged drug trafficking routes linked to Venezuela by land.
01:59The U.S. already has a large military deployment along the coast of Venezuela, which includes 16,000 troops,
02:08advanced F-35 jets, B-2 stealth bombers, and more than a dozen other U.S. warships, including the
02:15largest aircraft carrier in the world, the USS Gerald Ford.
02:21The U.S. has also designated the so-called Cartel of the Suns, a network it alleges is tied to Maduro,
02:29as a foreign terrorist organization. Maduro denies any connection and has warned the White House against
02:37starting what he called a crazy war in the region. Nevertheless, Venezuela has also reinforced its own
02:46defenses, with Maduro boasting of deploying 5,000 Russian-made IGLAS anti-air missiles to counter any
02:56American action. Maduro, in a nationally televised address, responded that Venezuela will not be
03:03intimidated, ordering his armed forces to remain on high alert and conducting new military drills.
