00:00Here are today's top stories. First, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gone Hollywood.
00:04Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just signed a multiple-year overall deal at Netflix.
00:09As reported by the New York Times, the deal will cover scripted and unscripted TV series,
00:13documentaries, feature films, and kids' programming. The couple already has projects
00:17in development at the streamer, including a nature docuseries and an animated series that
00:22will celebrate inspiring women. The deal comes seven months after the couple announced they
00:26would step back as senior members of the British royal family. Their signing with Netflix echoes
00:30the deal made by Barack and Michelle Obama, whose higher ground productions produced the
00:34Oscar-winning documentary American Factory for Netflix. Next, Dancing with the Stars has unveiled
00:39its superstar lineup for its upcoming 29th season, and let's just say it's a wild bunch.
00:44THR's Neha Joy has more. The ABC dance competition show revealed the full cast on GMA ahead of its
00:50September 14th premiere, where three of the 15 contestants are part of popular Netflix shows.
00:56Monica Aldama of Cheer, Chrishell Staus of Selling Sunset, and yes, none other than the cool cat
01:01herself, Carole Baskin of Tiger King. Joining the three Netflix stars in the fight for the
01:05Mirrorball are former bachelorette Caitlin Bristow, retired NFL player Vernon Davis, actress Anne Heche,
01:12Disney Channel star Sky Jackson, One Day at a Time star Justina Machado, AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys,
01:18the real host Jeannie Mai, actor Jesse Metcalf, rapper Nelly, catfish host Neve Shulman,
01:23former NBA player Charles Oakley, and Olympic figure skater and commentator Johnny Weir.
01:29Dancing with the Stars is also set to switch things up when it premieres September 14th on ABC,
01:34with Tyra Banks taking over hosting duties from Tom Berdrock.
01:37And Disney's Mulan has finally locked down its high-stakes theatrical release date in China.
01:41After being delayed several times due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the film will open in China on
01:46September 11th. Neha has more on that story, too.
01:49That move makes China the largest and most lucrative market that will get to see the
01:53tentpole in cinemas as originally intended. In early August, Disney revealed a surprise
01:58decision to release the film over its Disney Plus streaming service on September 4th in the US
02:03and other select markets for a premium price of $29.99. Budgeted at $200 million, Mulan is the
02:10priciest of Disney's recent live-action remakes. Given the uncertain outcome of Disney's premium video-on-demand
02:15gambit and the shaky state of theatrical film going in many territories elsewhere in the world,
02:20the China release could prove instrumental to Mulan's commercial success or failure.
