The 80-year-old actor will appear as a 40-something for the long-awaited Indiana Jones sequel.

00:00Fans are going to get to see Harrison Ford back in his prime.
00:04For the upcoming Indiana Jones 5, director James Mangold,
00:07who's taking over the franchise from Steven Spielberg,
00:10is taking Ford's Indiana Jones to the past using de-aging technology.
00:15The film's opening will be set in 1944,
00:18about eight years after the events in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark.
00:23De-aging technology will have Ford going up against Nazis in a castle.
00:26Old footage of the actor was utilized to help create the illusion,
00:31along with the actor's original jacket from Raiders.
00:34De-aging technology hasn't always provided the best results in the past,
00:38with actors ranging from Robert De Niro in The Irishman
00:40to Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
00:43often appearing like stiff Polar Express versions of themselves.
00:48But Ford insists the new film, which hasn't yet revealed its title,
00:51successfully pulls off a retro indie.
00:54This is the first time I've seen the technology where I believe it.
00:57It's a little spooky.
00:58I don't think I even want to know how it works.
01:01But it works.
01:02After the sequence, the film's narrative will leap forward to 1969,
01:06using Ford as his current self,
01:08and that's when the bulk of the action takes place.
01:11Mangold explains he wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on
01:14George Lucas and Steven Spielberg old picture
01:17and give the audience an adrenaline blast.
01:19Indy 5 will be released in theaters June 30, 2023.
