00:00So what's your movie about, bro?
00:02Can I have a hit of that, dude?
00:04Yeah, thanks, dude.
00:06So what is it?
00:07Have you seen Jaws?
00:08No, it's about this dude, Blaise Foley.
00:10He's a great singer.
00:11He's kind of the guy that Willie Nelson was pretending to be.
00:14Garth Brooks-ish?
00:16No, not like Garth Brooks.
00:17Oh.
00:18Is this your first time skiing?
00:19No.
00:20I don't even know what I'm doing here.
00:23Later, dude.
00:24Cool.
00:25That's it?
00:26It was good.
00:27Yeah.
00:28Okay.
00:29Woo!
00:30Victory too sweet.
00:36People who write and create art at a very high level without any of the superficial accoutrements
00:43of success, right?
00:45I've always been moved by that.
00:47And Blaise Foley, to me in a lot of ways, is a saint of that personality.
00:53And the idea started to coalesce in my brain about how maybe we might have something to
00:57say about this subject matter.
00:59Because I'm not really interested in a biopic.
01:02People keep calling it that.
01:04But the high watermark of the kind of movie we're trying to make is Raging Bull.
01:09Raging Bull is not a biopic of Jake LaMotta.
01:11You don't need to know who Jake LaMotta is.
01:14Those filmmakers are using the story of Jake LaMotta to affect you or make that story relevant
01:20to your life.
01:21And that's what we're trying to do.
01:22Ben, we start with you.
01:23What did you feel was going to be the biggest challenge?
01:26Acting.
01:27You know, when Ethan was like, this is what we're going to do.
01:34I think you could do it.
01:35I kept telling myself, well, I can bring the music to the table pretty good.
01:38I know I can do that.
01:39And if I just really blow it otherwise, I'm like, but I play the guitar pretty good.
01:44And for the rest of you, I'd love to hear about Ethan as a director.
01:48You know, not to sound cheesy, but we really had a connection to, like, luck was on our side.
01:53Everything was kind of falling in place, and that, you know, Ethan was very aware of that.
01:58And so he brought that kind of, like, outside magic into it, where it really felt like everything
02:02we were doing was meant to be.
02:03This ensemble that he put together, and our friend Rick Linklater said it perfectly.
02:08He goes, you kind of want to, like, host the movie.
02:10It's like a dinner.
02:11And then you go to that dinner.
02:12Sometimes you go to dinner and you're like, well, I can't wait to get out here.
02:14I really hate fondue.
02:16You know?
02:17This is, this, you sat at this table and everyone's coming from a different place.
02:21I've known Ethan for about 67 years.
02:23That sounds about right.
02:25We've just gone, done a lot of stuff together.
02:27And I didn't realize how, you know, why actors like to work with directors over and over again.
02:32Because the comfort level that comes with really knowing someone when they know you is invaluable.
02:36I didn't realize how tense I was on most movies until I was directed by Ethan.
02:40And he's, like, the ultimate cheerleader and everyone.
02:43That look in the skirt, dude.
02:45Yeah, yeah.
02:46I mean, with the pom-poms.
02:47Yeah.
02:48As sort of as a matter of fact.
02:49That looks like it's all voices.
02:50It does not allow each other to put because it, cause it's all...
02:51Yeah.
02:52So..
02:53Yeah.
02:54Go girl girl.
02:55Go girl.
02:56Go around.
02:56Go girl.
02:57Go for..
02:58Go be.
02:59Go.

03:01Yeah.

03:10Go.
