00:00In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Adam Lambert expressed his approval
00:03of the casting of Rami Malek to portray Freddie Mercury in the upcoming Queen
00:07biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. In the interview, which was published Monday, Lambert,
00:11who has been playing with Queen since 2011, said that Malek is a much better performer
00:16to play the role than himself.
00:17"'I don't look like Freddie. I don't sound like Freddie. I sound like me,' said the singer.
00:21"'Rami looks amazing. He's a great actor. From what I understand, they use pieces of
00:25actual studio recording of Freddie and Marc Martel, who is an impersonator of Freddie Mercury,
00:30to do some of the other vocal stuff. So, it's really about recreating Freddie. So, no,
00:35it wouldn't have been me."
00:36Bohemian Rhapsody chronicles the iconic band's early career and rise to fame and explores
00:40Mercury's personal life and AIDS diagnosis. The film also stars Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor,
00:45Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon, and Willem Lee as Brian May. Lambert also revealed that he
00:50enjoys the parts of the film that he has already seen.
00:52"'What I love is the way that they show the music coming together with the band creating
00:56a song,' he said.
00:57"'I found that really exciting, having now played with Brian May and Roger Taylor for
01:01the last few years. Watching that process be recreated, I thought, was really brilliant.'"
01:05According to the American Idol alum, Malek has done research for the role and has attended
01:09a number of Queen shows.
01:11"'I've met him a couple times now. He's great,' he said.
01:13"'He's really good in the film, too. Very sensitive portrayal.'"
01:16Bohemian Rhapsody, which hits theaters November 2, was originally directed by Bryan Singer,
01:20but he was fired in December after a number of unexplained absences from set. Singer later
01:25said that he was absent from set to tend to a gravely ill parent. Dexter Fletcher ultimately
01:30replaced Singer, though the former director will still get a directing credit.
