Twenty years after the president’s affair with an intern led to congressional action, A&E and Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions will reexamine the events with a three-part event featuring new accuser interviews and explosive never before seen footage.
Transcript
00:00A&E is set to produce a six-hour series that will explore former President Bill Clinton's
00:04impeachment and the investigation into his alleged sexual misdeeds that led up to it.
00:09The series currently has the working title The Impeachment of Bill Clinton and includes
00:13explosive never-before-seen footage of Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, whose life was turned
00:18upside down by special counsel Ken Starr's investigation, as well as new interviews with
00:23Paula Jones, Kathleen Wiley and Juanita Broderick, who alleged that Clinton raped her in 1978.
00:30According to Elaine Frontain Bryant, the executive VP and head of programming at A&E, the
00:34docu-series is a real-life political thriller and the most in-depth and intimate account of
00:39how one of the biggest scandals in our nation's history unfolded forever changing the
00:44landscape of American politics. The interviews with Monica Lewinsky certainly take on a
00:49whole new significance as the MeToo movement continues to dominate headlines and at a time
00:54when another special counsel investigation is looking into a sitting president. It's the
00:59first time Lewinsky, who has re-emerged in recent years, has talked so candidly about her experiences.
01:03In an episode seen by The Hollywood Reporter, Lewinsky speaks frankly about the betrayal of
01:08her friend Linda Tripp secretly recording their conversations, of being in love with Clinton,
01:13and that fateful trist during which she was wearing the Blue Gap dress.
01:16Lewinsky first re-engaged with the topic earlier this year when she penned a first-person piece for
01:21Vanity Fair reflecting on her experiences through the current MeToo prism, but for the most part,
01:26she's kept quiet. On September 4th, she cut short a live interview at a TV conference in Jerusalem
01:32when an interviewer asked her if she expected a private apology from Bill Clinton. Lewinsky responded,
01:38I'm so sorry, I'm not going to be able to do this before walking off stage. Lewinsky later took to
01:43Twitter to explain that there were clear parameters for her appearance, that the interviewer was aware
01:48that the topic was off-limits, and that the questions were in blatant disregard of the agreement.
01:52I laughed because it is more important than ever for women to stand up for themselves and not allow
01:57others to control their narrative, she wrote. To the audience, I'm very sorry that this talk had to end this way.
02:04The impeachment of Bill Clinton will air over three nights on A&E, starting November 18th.
