Tyler James Williams chats with The Hollywood Reporter at THR's Emmys Nominees Night and promises fans they'll get an answer about Gregory and Janine in the first episode of 'Abbott Elementary' season four. Plus, he dishes on meeting Tim Johnson Jr., who will play young Chris in the animated 'Everybody Hates Chris' series.

00:00The season 3 finale of Abbey Elementary marked a major milestone for Gregory and Janine.

00:06What can you tease about what's coming up in season 4?

00:09You're definitely going to get an answer as to what's going on with them.

00:14Like, what is this now?

00:16That's one thing that I can promise you'll know in the first episode.

00:19That's for sure.

00:20We decided, like, okay, let's give this an actual, not necessarily a punctuation mark,

00:25because it never is that, but at least a concrete answer.

00:29You'll get that for sure.

00:31What was your reaction when you first read that finale?

00:34Finally.

00:35Like, finally, yo.

00:36Like, yo.

00:37At some point when you're, like, living in the skin of the character, you begin to feel the anxiety build as well.

00:43So it was really nice to be able to go, okay, we can just pop the cork off of this and see what happens.

00:49And then I think immediately of just like, okay, what was the next steps to make it different from every other will-they-won't-they moment?

00:55How does it feel heading into another Emmy's with the show?

00:58Is it Old Hat by this point?

01:00Never is.

01:01It never is.

01:02There's, like, a lot of really good TV out there.

01:04So the fact that we're nominated and considered and celebrated is always, like, super special.

01:09And I think everyone works so hard every year that we never see each other.

01:12So it's a really good time to see your friends and people you worked with before and, you know, all of that in a way that's, like, celebratory.

01:19And it's something that every year you just kind of really look forward to.

01:23Now, Everybody Hates Chris is getting an animated series.

01:27Yes.

01:27I talked to the cast at Comic-Con.

01:29They were all there.

01:30Have you gotten a chance to talk to the voice actor who's voicing young Chris in the show?

01:34I have.

01:34I met him at Comic-Con.

01:36And he seems really excited.

01:37And, like, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it.

01:39But, yeah, I'm just happy that they're on, like, this journey and beginning it again in a new way.

01:46Have you gotten to see a sneak peek of it at all?

01:48I haven't.

01:49I haven't seen anything.

01:50So I'm going to be, you know, tuning in with everybody else to see, you know, what they put together.

01:54And so many new shows are nominated for the Emmys this year.

01:57Did you have a favorite new show that you enjoyed watching this past year?

02:01I mean, I think everybody, like, Shogun.

02:03You know what I mean?

02:03Like, that's just it.

02:04I don't know if it actually made the nomination cut off, but X-Men 97 was also, like, I would say one of the best shows of the year.

02:14I think I'll go out on a limb and say that.

02:16Like, structurally and execution-wise, one of the best shows of the year.

02:20So I would love to see that get some love if it hasn't already.
