Fredric Snitzer Gallery in Miami presents "Inside Out," a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based artist Deborah Brown, marking her debut with the gallery. Coinciding with Miami Art Week and running until January 10, 2026, the show includes works from several series developed over recent years: still lifes, shadow paintings, street vendors, and runaways. The still lifes depict personal objects and heirlooms—Japanese screens, Danish ceramics, Mexican textiles—rendered with loose brushwork and strong color. Landscape-based shadow paintings originated from walks in East Williamsburg during the pandemic, featuring industrial settings and a recurring shadow figure with a dog. The street vendor series portrays everyday urban scenes in Bushwick and Chinatown. The runaway paintings show a female nude, often with a dog, in wilderness or water settings, referencing historical depictions of the figure and landscape.Brown (b. 1955, California) has lived in New York since 1982. She holds degrees from Yale and Indiana University and has taught at various institutions. Her work appears in public and private collections and has been exhibited and reviewed internationally.
