"Chivo's DNA is in this film," Cuaron said of the cinematographer who is his longtime collaborator.

00:00Part of my process in this film and something that was important for me was going back to
00:06my mother tongue and to try to bring emotionally what your mother tongue brings out of you.
00:13The film because of this same situation that we decided to extend it and make it longer
00:19suddenly it became impossible for Chivo to go to Mexico for all that time because he
00:24already had commitments elsewhere.
00:26And it was like two and a half weeks before we started shooting that the painful news
00:30that he was not going to be able to do it.
00:33So I thought it was not right and it's when Chivo, actually it was Chivo who said,
00:38Eddie, come on, stop that, just do it.
00:43But I needed, particularly at the beginning part of the process, a lot of reassurance from
00:47Chivo and conversations with him.
00:52So I think that Chivo, Chivo DNA is somehow in this film.
