Jack Quaid swings by on the 2025 SAG Awards red carpet and talks Oscars hopes, the emotional filming of the final season of 'The Boys' and how he thinks we should shift our focus on improving a much more familiar form of technology over A.I.
Transcript
00:00We're here tonight at the SAG Awards celebrating both movie and TV actors.
00:04The Oscars are just a week away. What film are you rooting for for Best Picture?
00:08Oh my god, there's so many amazing movies this year.
00:11Onora I'm rooting for. Was A Real Pain nominated for Best Picture?
00:16I don't think it was. I don't think so.
00:19It was so good. And also, I would have to say Dune 2.
00:24It's so unbelievable. The spectacle of that movie is incredible.
00:28Now for you, I can't wait to see you in the final season of The Boys.
00:32Where are you at on that? What can you tell me?
00:34Oh man, so we're shooting it right now in Toronto, which is insane.
00:38And I'm covered in blood most days, which is of no surprise.
00:42It's going to be very bittersweet for me because, you know, this is our fifth and final season.
00:47I'm glad that we get to go out on our own terms.
00:49It's an ending that our showrunner intended, so that I love because that's so rare in TV these days.
00:54But yeah, it's going to be, I'm going to get really emotional by the end of it.
00:59I just love everybody who works on that, you know, cast and crew.
01:02So yeah, it's going to be a very bittersweet time, but no, it's going to be great.
01:08I'm excited for people to see us conclude this thing.
01:12And we're excited to see it.
01:13And I'm sure you can't tease too much, but when you read your first scripts for the final season, what was your reaction?
01:19Ooh, uh, oh God, they're really intense.
01:23Especially those first, like, three episodes, they're very, very intense.
01:26So I think, I really like them, but like, man, it gets, uh, it starts off in a pretty dark place.
01:33I can't exactly say where, but yeah.
01:35Have you read the finale yet? Are you, do you know how it ends?
01:38No, I know how it ends. I have an idea of how it ends, but how exactly all those pieces get put into place, I'm not exactly sure yet.
01:45Uh, but it kind of keep us in the dark, you know.
01:48I know about a couple scripts ahead at all times, but never, you know, talk to me in a few months and then I'll actually know what the ending is.
01:55Which is going to be nuts. I can't wait to read that script.
01:57But, uh, yeah, I'm excited.
01:59And you also have Novocaine. What drew you to that project?
02:02Uh, well, it's an action movie. It's an action comedy. Um, and I know most people will look at me and not necessarily see an action hero.
02:09And I'm totally fine with that, but it seemed like the best possible, uh, movie to have me as an action hero in it.
02:16I play a guy who has a rare genetic disorder where he can't feel pain and he has to go save, uh, this girl that he loves.
02:22And he's kind of using his disability as a superpower.
02:25So it's really not about how much I can, I can kick ass. It's more about how much my ass can get kicked and then I keep getting back up.
02:32Uh, it's really fun. We shot it in South Africa about a year ago and I just think it's a blast and I can't wait for people to see it.
02:38We can't wait to see it. And finally, back in 2023 with the SAG After Strike, AI was a hot topic and it continues to be.
02:46What's your take on AI?
02:47Oh man, look, I just don't want it to replace anybody's job. That's really it.
02:52I mean, if we can use it, you know, obviously you can't put the genie back in the bottle.
02:56If we can use it as a tool, that's hopefully, you know, makes it so that people can keep their jobs.
03:01I would love that. Uh, otherwise, I don't know. It's not the greatest thing.
03:06Um, but I think we need to stop working on AI if we can. I know we can.
03:11Can we just stop until we figure out Bluetooth technology?
03:14Cause it still doesn't really work the way that we want it to.
03:17Like I still can't connect to a speaker and I'm like, this should work.
03:20We've been, we've had this technology for a decade now. Why isn't it working?
03:24Let's just put it on hold for a second until we can work out Bluetooth. That's my, that's my hot take.
03:29I love that. We're moving too fast. We need to get back to the basics.
03:32Yeah, we're moving too fast. We really do. Just figure out the Bluetooth situation.
03:36I want to connect to the speaker. It's a whole thing.
03:39We're moving too fast.
