Equinox and SoulCycle on Wednesday responded after a backlash began to make waves via social media after it was revealed billionaire New York real estate developer Stephen Ross planned to host a fundraiser for Donald Trump.

00:08According to The Washington Post, the billionaire New York real estate developer is

00:11hosting a fundraiser luncheon for Trump on Friday at his Southampton home where

00:16$100,000 buys you a lunch and a photo op with Trump, $250,000 includes a roundtable

00:21discussion and a price tag of $5,600 to just get in. The news caused an outrage

00:27with the public with many, including a number of celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen

00:31and Billy Eichner, calling for a boycott of the luxury gym and its associated

00:35fitness chains, SoulCycle and Blink Fitness. Eichner, who admitted to canceling his

00:39membership, tweeted,

00:47Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness tweeted,

00:49Tegan also posted a series of tweets encouraging the boycott and tweeted,

00:59Ross, who also owns the Miami Dolphins, even received criticism from Dolphins wide

01:08receiver Kenny Stills, who retweeted the news with a picture of the billionaire's

01:12non-profit dedicated to equality in sports, tweeting,

01:14You can't have a non-profit with this mission statement, then open your doors to Trump.

01:18A spokesperson for both Equinox and SoulCycle released a statement to THR

01:23saying neither company had anything to do with the Trump fundraiser and they did not

01:27support it, saying,

01:39However, some, including New York Magazine and Huffington Post contributor Yashar Ali,

01:43we're quick to point out that Ross is not a passive investor as he controls and owns a

01:48majority of the parent company of both Equinox and SoulCycle related companies.
