'Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere' star Paul Walter Hauser says he gets a "cheat code" when portraying a real person on the big screen and it's almost harder for him when he doesn't have that material to look back on. Plus, he talks working closely with Jeremy Allen White, saying he is "sweet" and makes time for everybody.

00:00You're no stranger to playing a real person.
00:02As an actor, what excites you about playing a real person?
00:05Oh, you kind of get a cheat code.
00:08It's like you got all this material with photos and literature and video and audio,
00:13and it kind of is a great indicator of how to play the character oftentimes.
00:18When you don't have that, to me, it's harder.
00:21It's like I don't have the IP of the person's psychology.
00:24I have to dig a little bit deeper, you know,
00:27or in some ways create stuff that isn't there, you know.
00:31And you and Jeremy work really closely in this movie, lots of intimate scenes.
00:35What was it like working with him and hearing him sing as Bruce?
00:38It was great.
00:39Amy and I, my wife Amy and I, we had met Jeremy a number of times on the press circuit for, like,
00:45I was doing Blackbird while he was doing The Bear, season two or whatever,
00:48and we're just mutual fans, and we always got giddy running into him in the cast of The Bears.
00:53He's so kind.
00:54Yeah, he's sweet.
00:55He makes time for everybody.
00:56And we just, he's someone I always wanted to work with,
01:00so it was cool to be in close confines and to have those scenes together.
01:04But we kept it really small and really simple, you know.
01:09It was really me just trying to feel him out and try to meet the needs of him in the scene,
01:15kind of like the character I play in Mike Batlin.
01:17It's like he serves at the pleasure of Bruce Springsteen.
01:21So I serve at the pleasure of the bear, Jeremy Allen White.
01:24For you, what's it been like seeing him have just this amazing trajectory over these past few years?
01:30Yeah, it's been really beautiful.
01:32We've been busy.
01:32We've been having children.
01:33So I think that helps ground you.
01:35We've had three children in five years, and it keeps us humble and working hard.
01:40But it's really beautiful just to see his work ethic and how hard he works
01:45and what a good present father and husband he is at home, too.
01:49So that matters to us.
01:51And it's like, oh, yeah, Daddy's on TV.
01:53We put on Cruella, and our son was like, Daddy, Daddy.
01:56And, like, he put two and two together.
01:58That's so funny.
01:59So that's been fun.
02:00I love when they make the little connection of, like, that's Dad's voice coming on the TV.
02:03It's funny.
02:03Sweet.
02:04Sweet.
