00:00Janet Ortega explains that she became a tad unprofessional while playing Wednesday in the
00:04Tim Burton-produced Netflix series. In a recent appearance on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert
00:10podcast, Ortega revealed that she got involved in a major way when it came to the writing of the
00:16show, and even at one point told Burton that she didn't want a choreographer for the show's now
00:21iconic dance scene. Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make
00:26sense for her character at all. There was a line about like, this dress that she has to wear for
00:31a school dance, and she said, oh my god, I love it. Ugh, I can't believe I said that. I literally
00:36hate myself. And I had to go, no, there's no way. Ortega explains that at one point she started
00:41changing lines, and had to sit the writers down, telling them why she changed certain scenes.
00:46I grew very, very protective of Wednesday, but you can't lead a story and have no emotional arc,
00:51because then it's boring and nobody likes you. Beyond the dialogue, Ortega noted that she also
00:56got involved in removing a flash mob scene that was initially in place of her now iconic dance
01:01sequence, at one point telling producer Burton not to hire a choreographer. Of the flash mob scene,
01:07she said, I vetoed, because why would she be okay with that? I said, either cut it or have Wednesday
01:12knock someone out, and then it's done. For much more on the story, including how the actress's
01:17experience on the show left her with little confidence, head to the article on THR.com.
