NBCUniversal — the parent company of producers Universal TV — won an auction for the library after outbidding Netflix in a $100 million-per-year pact.

00:06Yep, the rumors are sadly true. The Office is leaving Netflix in 2020.

00:22and will be moving to NBCUniversal's upcoming streaming platform, which will take over as the
00:27exclusive home for all nine seasons of the comedy starting in 2021, so this is huge.

00:35NBC outbid Netflix during an auction and is set to pay $100 million per year for the next five years
00:41to retain exclusive domestic streaming rights to the series.
00:44NBCU says The Office is the number one show across all subscription video on-demand services,
00:49and it's streamed in more than 52 billion minutes.
00:52On Tuesday, Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCUniversal DTC and Digital Enterprises,
00:56spoke about winning the streaming rights, calling The Office a staple of pop culture,
01:01and as she puts it, a rare gem whose relevance continues to grow at a time when fans have more
01:06entertainment choices than ever before.
01:08UTV president Perlina Igbakwi adds,
01:11Netflix also commented on losing out on the bidding war on Twitter, writing,
01:16This is the worst!
