00:00The oldest company in the world still operating today is over 1,400 years old.
00:04They made about $38 million in revenue in 2020.
00:06It goes all the way back to the year 578.
00:09That's 15 centuries ago.
00:10It's a Japanese construction firm called Kongo Gumi.
00:13They build temples.
00:14But what I think is fascinating, it's done the thing that only a small, stable, boring business can do,
00:18which is last 1,000 years.
00:20They've consolidated, they've changed hands, but I think they probably learned a couple things.
00:24First, healthy, lasting businesses don't have to be massive, sexy, or revolutionary.
00:28And in fact, they often aren't.
00:30Second, ownership is something to be cherished, even if you only manage to hold on to something for a millennium or so.
