00:09Jerry Seinfeld is apologizing for those uncomfortable sexual undertones between his leading B-character
00:15and a human woman in DreamWorks Animation's B-movie.
00:19Appearing on The Tonight Show in part to promote all nine seasons of his iconic comedy Seinfeld coming to Netflix,
00:25the topic of the 2007 animated film came into conversation when the two discussed his recent birthday
00:31and the years it takes to reach a certain level of success in his career.
00:35And then I had three kids, I had to straighten their insane asses out, and then I make a movie with a B.
00:42That's when Seinfeld went on to directly address the long-running jokes around the animated children's movie,
00:47which some viewers have said features an implied romantic relationship and attraction between the movie's main characters.
00:53Those two characters are a B named Barry B. Benson, voiced by Seinfeld,
00:57and the film's animated leading lady, voiced by Renee Zellweger.
01:01Seinfeld noted,
01:02I apologize for what seems to be a certain uncomfortable, subtle, sexual aspect of the B-movie.
01:07It really was not intentional.
01:09After it came out, I realized this is really not appropriate for children.
01:15The comic noted that the intention was never to pursue that as an idea in children's entertainment.
01:20Because the B seemed to have a thing for the girl.
01:23The film's writers and director addressed the issue in a 2017 anniversary interview,
01:28clarifying that while it may appear like there is some kind of attraction happening,
01:32that was never the plan.
01:33Director Steve Hickner said at the time,
01:35it was never going to be sexual or anything like that.
01:38It was purely this friendship.
01:39Maybe in Barry's mind, he thought,
01:41but it was never going to be that.
