00:00:55But when they get to the stone wall, two things happen at the same time.
00:00:59Doyle steps out of the shadows looking for a fight.

00:05:57hi I'm Helen hi I'm Mia and this is my granddaughter Sarah are you here for a kismet
00:06:11cookie I guess so my friend Angie says I don't know I'm not a big believer in this kind of stuff
00:06:18well why don't I tell you the legend and then you can decide for yourself okay come on in
00:06:24so a hundred years ago my great-grandparents moved here and they bought this house and before long
00:06:33there was a wealthy man in town who wanted to marry their their daughter my Nana Sue now the man's very
00:06:39nice but Nana Sue didn't love him and Nana Sue promised her answer by Christmas and on Christmas Eve
00:06:46she bumped into this wall and discovered this hidden cabinet and inside she found the recipe for
00:06:53kismet cookies it said if you follow the recipe exactly you'll dream of your true love huh so she
00:07:00made the cookies and she wrapped one and put it under her pillow just like the rest of me told her to
00:07:04and that night she dreamt about the grocer in town who always made her laugh so the next morning she
00:07:11marched into town and she knocked on his door and she wanted to know if he had anything to say to her
00:07:15and it turns out he did he'd always loved her huh but he didn't think he could compete with the
00:07:22wealthy man so then two weeks later they were married my Nana Sue and my Grandpa Joe and ever since
00:07:30then the cookies have worked okay I'm sold it goes under my pillow uh-huh tonight you'll see
00:07:41what's Travis up to out there nothing I don't know I'm just I guess fixing my car
00:08:09well um this is the last kismet cookie of the year grandma are you looking for love oh no honey
00:08:19no you know your grandpa was my one and done the cookie just helps me dream about him
00:08:26I wish you'd let me try it oh I know you do sweetheart but
00:08:31it's too soon this is the time of your life when you should be writing about crushes and
00:08:40and sweeping romantic stories in your journal besides it doesn't matter we've given away all
00:08:46all the other cookies tomorrow's Christmas
00:08:51is
00:09:09you
00:09:16I don't know.
00:09:46Oh, Sarah, Merry Christmas.
00:09:56What would you like for breakfast?
00:09:57I can make any.
00:09:58Don't be mad.
00:09:59But I saved a kismet cookie for myself.
00:10:01I put it under my pillow last night.
00:10:04And I know who my true love is.
00:10:08Sarah.
00:10:09Sarah, wait!
00:10:16Sarah, what are you doing here?
00:10:22I need to tell you something.
00:10:23Can it wait?
00:10:24You know the kismet cookies?
00:10:26Yeah.
00:10:27Yeah, well, last night I put one under my pillow.
00:10:29I know I wasn't supposed to, but I did.
00:10:31And I dreamt about you.
00:10:33And that means that you're my true love and we're supposed to be together.
00:10:36And I know how that sounds, but I...
00:10:37You're getting married?
00:10:44Yeah.
00:10:47I'm sorry.
00:10:48I should have told you, but...
00:10:49This is a good day for me, okay?
00:10:52Be happy for me.
00:10:53Sarah?
00:10:55Sarah?
00:10:55I'm sorry, honey.
00:11:06Oh, Sarah, I understand.
00:11:10I do.
00:11:10And I hate that it broke your heart, but...
00:11:13Be absolutely sure that you don't believe in the kismet anymore before you do that.
00:11:25So kismet cookies are real?
00:11:34No, clearly they're not.
00:11:36It's a fairy tale I believed in as a kid.
00:11:38And it gave me the idea for the book,
00:11:40but instead of predicting love in the book,
00:11:42the cookies turn you into a mini-superhero.
00:11:44Because that's what I needed to be at the time.
00:11:46Strong and confident.
00:11:48So what happened the next time you saw the boy next door?
00:11:51Oh, I didn't.
00:11:53My dad got there soon after.
00:11:54I begged him to take me away, so we went to a ski lodge.
00:11:57Grandma Mia says they moved to Florida a few years ago.
00:12:00And you haven't been back to New Britain since?
00:12:03No.
00:12:04Okay.
00:12:05As your agent, I'm going to advise you
00:12:07never to tell this version of the kismet story to anyone.
00:12:10Can we please pick a new winner?
00:12:12No.
00:12:13It's too late.
00:12:14We've already told the mayor of the town
00:12:15he wants to announce it at some Christmas in the Park thing.
00:12:19Dickens.
00:12:19Huh?

00:12:30is really Sarah Collins?
00:12:32Well, I haven't told anyone,
00:12:33so unless Grandma Mia has...
00:12:35Grandma Mia doesn't tell anyone anything, clearly.
00:12:37Perfect.
00:12:38So there's no problem.
00:12:40You can go to the Dickens thing on Saturday.
00:12:44You can head over to Grandma Mia's place,

00:22:48your project makes it easy for families to donate books at christmas
00:22:52yep it's called let's read a christmas
00:22:54good name
00:22:55the kids of new britain donate books to kids from our sister city who aren't as lucky
00:22:59they don't have a huge library like we do
00:23:02and what are these ornaments we're cutting out
00:23:04kids decorate them and put the name of their gift book on the back
00:23:08and then they hang them on the christmas tree in the community center
00:23:11families can pick one
00:23:12or two
00:23:13or three
00:23:14and buy the book to donate
00:23:15the books get wrapped and donated on christmas eve
00:23:18and who's wrapping all these books
00:23:20well jazzy is very good at volunteering my time
00:23:23i noticed that father christmas
00:23:26exactly
00:23:26and where are you getting all the books are you working with miss raylene
00:23:29mm-hmm
00:23:30miss raylene's already picked up a bunch of the most popular titles
00:23:33and she'll grab some more when she finds out what the kids ask for
00:23:35she's selling them all at cost which is great so
00:23:38well i can talk to my agent benny i'm sure he can overnight a stack of books
00:23:43really that would be great
00:23:45well it's good to be sarah grace
00:23:48do the book people know your real name
00:23:50they do
00:23:51but why do you use sarah grace instead of sarah collins
00:23:54oh um when people ask me that i tell them that sarah grace just sounds more elegant
00:24:01but the truth is i first had the idea for the book when i was only 17
00:24:07and i was very awkward
00:24:10no
00:24:11very lonely
00:24:14and i just wanted to be someone else
00:24:17someone who went through life with a lot more grace than i did
00:24:21so i created an alter ego so i could pretend to be someone who was
00:24:24confident and funny and graceful
00:24:28and just not at all lonely
00:24:31but why are we alone
00:24:34a lot of reasons
00:24:37but here's the funny part
00:24:39it all worked out
00:24:41and without it i never would have written miss abella
00:24:44i am not making this up benny
00:24:54so the boy next door is still next door
00:24:57is he still breathtakingly handsome
00:24:59even more so
00:25:01oh and you'll never guess who his daughter is
00:25:04stop

00:26:53you know something a little mysterious about you columns women
00:26:56or maybe magic just doesn't exist

00:27:48because i put a cookie under my pillow
00:27:51and then i had a dream about you
00:27:53i remember that

00:30:42no one else reads them
00:30:44of course
00:30:45it's called fan fiction
00:30:46i used to write a lot of it when i was your age
