Transcript
00:00Opening the show with Ariana and Cynthia performing.
00:02That's what I hear, that's what I hear.
00:03It's going to be the Super Bowl for the girls' gaze and face, for sure.
00:06I mean, what do you know?
00:08I know a lot, but I'm not going to tell you guys yet.
00:10You have to experience it for the first time, but it's going to be beautiful, it's going to be exciting.
00:15And, of course, what actors will go in front of all these actors and go perform?
00:20Like, it's a very gutsy thing, and so I'm glad that they're representing our movie tonight.
00:25Yes, and you're kind of representing Elphabud tonight.
00:27Oh, yes, a little bit, a little Emerald City.
00:29My wife is in yellow, as she's the sort of yellow brick road to my Emerald City.
00:33Oh, I love that.
00:34So we feel very, we have five kids, so without her, we wouldn't be here.
00:39I couldn't do my job, so it's been really fun.
00:41And history might be made tonight with Cynthia becoming...
00:44Come on, let's go, let's go.
00:46She deserves it.
00:47She is amazing talent.
00:49She's going to be with us for a long time.
00:52So this is just the beginning of her journey, no matter what happens.
00:55Yeah, that's right.
00:58Almost.
00:58I think it was, like, pretty close.
01:01You didn't have the mic there, though.
01:02Next time you've got to have the mic.
01:03Well, you already shot the sequel, but if you want to do more, I could copy.
01:06Oh, yeah, yeah.
01:06I like it, I like it.
01:08Okay, all right.
01:09I clocked it in there.
01:10For people that haven't seen the stage adaptation and don't know what they're going in for with
01:16a sequel, what's one thing you could tell them to expect?
01:18Because it is, it takes a turn.
01:20It takes a turn.
01:21I would say this is where Wizard of Oz and Wicked timelines intersect.
01:28I would say we come back to things that you may have seen in the first one.
01:34I think we connect a lot of dots.
01:35And the consequences of choices made in movie one are what this movie is about.
01:39And consequences often are more difficult to stay the course than when you just made
01:44a decision.
01:45So it's going to be, it's a dark one.
01:48It's a fun one.
01:49But you get into the meat now.
01:51The meat.
01:51It's dark.
01:52Now, I've been waiting for more Crazy Rich Asians for years and years and years.
01:57And then there was an announcement that you are doing a TV series.
01:59Yes, yes.
02:00We needed more real estate.
02:02Yes.
02:02That was the reality.
02:03Like, you know, we developed the movie over and over and over again.
02:06And we're still working on a version of something that I won't talk about now.
02:09But the TV landscape allowed us to use all the characters.
02:14Is it like in lieu of a sequel, the TV series?
02:16I don't know if it's in lieu of a sequel.
02:18But it felt clear that we wanted to, every character we wanted to explore needed more
02:22room.
02:22And it's just, a movie wasn't doing it for us.
02:25So, and we got to bring Adele back into the fold.
02:28And so we're starting this now.
02:30It's going to be fun.
