Showrunner Ryan Condal tells THR on the red carpet for the 'House of the Dragon' season 2 premiere what he wanted to look into when it came to creating season 2 following the success of the first season.
Transcript
00:00Congratulations on Season 2.
00:02After the success of last season,
00:04what was the main focus you wanted to look into
00:07when approaching Season 2?
00:08And were there any conversations with George R.R. Martin
00:11that stood out to you when making this season?
00:14Yeah, I mean, we just wanted to do more good,
00:19more of the same that we did in Season 1,
00:22and follow the narrative.
00:23And I think the thing that George cares most about
00:26is just the rendering of his world
00:28and that it's true and faithful to what he's written in Fire & Blood.
00:32And we strive to do that every single day.
00:34I don't think it's always possible to be to the letter
00:37because it's a history book and it's sort of a Rashomon story.
00:41It's different points of view of the same event.
00:43So we kind of have to pick the one objective path
00:46on the way through it.
00:47But no, I mean, he really loves Season 1
00:49and I think enjoys what we're doing with the show.
00:52Definitely.
00:53And I know last season two of the breakout stars
00:55were Millie Alcock and Emily Carey.
00:57Is there a world in which they would maybe make an appearance
01:00either this season or beyond in the form of a flashback?
01:03I mean, we don't, this is not really a flashback kind of story.
01:08That's not, that's, and that really wasn't,
01:12really wasn't the structure of the original Game of Thrones either.
01:15I like to kind of, you know, move ahead with stories
01:18and have people talk about history
01:20versus, you know, seeing it and experiencing it.
01:22But, I don't know, we'll see.
01:27Okay.
01:28Okay.
01:29How's that happening?
01:30Yes, thanks.
01:32I think we'll see in the comments.
01:33Yeah.
01:34I think I really need to know what this is.
01:36Of course, with me.
01:38I'm shocked.
01:39I'm shocked.
