00:00I think it definitely uh says something about like you know the decisions we make
00:07can have these big consequences and they can be out of our control to some degree and then
00:12sometimes it's about how you deal with those situations and the kind of person that you become
00:17in dealing with those situations as well. A wild night, unexpected consequences, and the messy
00:22chaos of adulthood. The threesome from director Chad Hartigan stars Zoe Deutsch, Jonah Howard King,
00:28and Ruby Cruz along with co-star Jaboukie Young-White. The cast sat down with The Hollywood
00:33Reporter to talk chemistry, chaos, and what really happens after a threesome. Deutsch,
00:39Howard King, and Cruz lead the film as Olivia, Connor, and Jenny who navigate the messy consequences of the
00:45titular event. The three stars discuss how the project was irresistible at first read and talk
00:50about how they were moved by the script's emotional depth. I saw the title and I thought it was gonna
00:55be one thing and I read it and it was very surprising and nuanced funny and deep and um
01:02I it was so good that I was very surprised that it hadn't been one made or done before.
01:07I found it very emotional and very moving and uh deeply surprising and uh as a reader did not know
01:18where the script was going and I felt that that would translate really beautifully
01:21on screen and I liked all of the characters. I kind of rooted for them all in different ways and
01:26at different points. I think none of them were perfect um but they were all kind of trying their
01:31best and learning along the way. By the end of getting through the rest of the script I was sobbing
01:38in bed and I was like this is those the feelings it's giving me I loved it after first read. I just had
01:48so much fun with the first read that I just was like I want to dive into this character really
01:52badly. As for director Chad Hartigan he said he was drawn to the story's balance of timeliness and
01:58modern frankness. There is a wholesomeness to it that felt like generational and timeless but at the
02:05same time the story and the characters and the humor all felt so very contemporary and could only be
02:12told in today's time. And also I appreciated the the frankness the matter of factness that it took to
02:18the characters and their sexualities and what they did and their decisions that they make and it was
02:22very non-judgmental um which is how I I like my films to be. Of course with the stellar cast lineup
02:30chemistry was still a key part of this film. I just had a hunch that maybe they could all be great
02:35together but you never really know until you do it and luckily they did have the chemistry. And Jabouki
02:41Young White dazzles on screen as the blunt best friend a role he says felt both nostalgic and freeing.
02:46So after thousands of years of perfection the pullout method has finally failed.
02:51I had a straight best friend in high school named Connor um who I often was kind of giving blunt advice to
02:58a lot so that kind of felt nostalgic for me but uh I also love being the audience stand-in and kind of
03:09being able to be a little aloof and just be present with whatever is going on and just say honestly
03:16whatever I feel about what's going on. I think uh it just really makes for a fun shoot.
03:24As for how he would describe the film in its entirety? Get ready.
03:27In three words how would you describe your character's experience in this movie?
03:31What the f**k?
03:32The threesome is out now. This is The Hollywood Reporter News.
