The former wife of Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos has signed Bill Gates and Warren Buffett's Giving Pledge.

00:00Fresh off her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Mackenzie Bezos is ready to share
00:05the love. On Tuesday, Mackenzie pledged to give half of her $35 billion fortune away
00:10to worthy causes during her lifetime. The billionaire signed the Giving Pledge, a commitment
00:15to philanthropy launched nine years ago by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. In a statement
00:20announcing her promise, Mackenzie said,
00:22Mackenzie and Jeff finalized their divorce back in April, ending a 25-year marriage. And as part of their
00:33agreement, Mackenzie was to receive a 4% stake in Amazon registered in her name. Before the separation,
00:39Jeff had a 16% stake in Amazon worth more than $140 billion, making him one of the richest people
00:46in the world. Without giving details on which causes she'll support, Mackenzie was philosophical
00:51about her charity plans. Of her wealth-sharing, she said,
00:54My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care,
00:59but I won't wait, and I will keep at it until the safe is empty. Adding,
01:03Sure enough, something greater rises up every time we give. The easy breathing of a friend we sit with
01:08when we had other plans. The relief on our child's face when we share the story of our own mistake.
