Last Friday (May 31), it was officially announced that Robert Pattinson would be suiting up as the the Caped Crusader for Matt Reeves' film 'The Batman,' and we're learning how the former 'Twilight' star landed the role.

00:04Last Friday, it was officially announced that the former Twilight star will be suiting up

00:08as the caped crusader for Matt Reeves' film The Batman.

00:11And according to inside sources, just hours after the actor appeared at the Cannes Film Festival

00:16and coyly avoided questions about the role, he hopped on a plane for a final screen test

00:21against Nicholas Hoult that involved both stars putting on a bat suit from a previous movie.

00:26That's become a customary part in the bat test process.

00:29For instance, before landing Batman begins, Christian Bale performed his test in the suit

00:33used by Val Kilmer in 1995's Batman Forever.

00:36One insider says Reeves wanted very specific things. He knew what he was looking for.

00:40The decision to cast Pattinson was the culmination of an intense process that insiders describe

00:45as surprisingly speedy, calling it quicker than normal.

00:48Of course, the 33-year-old actor first shot to fame as a sparkly vampire.

00:51But since then, he's built a solid resume in smaller, well-reviewed independent films like Good Time.

01:07He avoided big studio franchise films, but that fact made him more attractive to Reeves

01:12and the executive team at Warner Bros., because Pattinson has not yet appeared in any Marvel Studios movie.

01:18Reeves and Warner execs took the week after Memorial Day to deliberate between Pattinson and Holt,

01:22and by Thursday night made the calls to the actors.

01:25Pattinson now moves on to the next stage, getting fitted for his own bat suit and training for a shoot

01:31that will likely take place in early 2020.
