00:002K Sports Pre-Game Show.
00:05With the diesel and the jet, this is Ernie Johnson.
00:08Welcome to the NBA on 2K Sports.
00:11And tonight our broadcast will be shifting to Denver,
00:14where we'll see the Nuggets going up against the Memphis Grizzlies.
00:18And for Memphis, they're looking to come out strong and make their mark early.
00:22They have to look at this game as a great opportunity to do just that.
00:26Well, Coach Dave Yeager on the bench for the Grizzlies, as always.
00:30He's a coach who completely embodies the roster and franchise that he works for.
00:35Kenny, what can you say about Yeager's approach and how he handles his team?
00:38He's not a guy that's going to be flapping his arms around.
00:41He's very quiet, hardworking, probably overlooked on how good a coach he is
00:46because his demeanor is so calm.
00:48But he's got a very practical approach, you know, everything he does.
00:52He's not flashy, but he's very effective, guys.
00:54He embraces analytics, and he wants things to be backed up with facts
00:58when he's making his decisions.
01:00Do you embrace analytics as well, Dr. O'Neill?
01:02No, I do not.
01:03Why not?
01:03No such thing.
01:05What do you mean?
01:06No such thing.
01:06Sure there is.
01:07There's advanced stats, analytics.
01:09What did you look at?
01:10What did you look at?
01:11Stats, smats.
01:12What did you look at?
01:13I looked at you in your eye.
01:14And said if you could play, you could play.
01:16I looked at you in your eye and determined if you were going to be
01:18barbecue chicken, fried chicken, or souffle salmon.
01:22When you look at me in my eye, what do you see?
01:25Lasagna.
01:29You guys are making me hungry again.
01:31Let's go to Kevin Harland.
01:32You look Italian today, Ernie.
01:34It's Memphis and the Denver Nuggets.
01:51Thanks for joining us, everyone.
01:53It's the NBA on 2K Sports.
01:55This is Kevin Harland with Clark Kellogg and Greg Anthony.
01:58And on the sideline tonight, Doris Burke.
02:00Tip-off goes to Denver.
02:17Now a chance, courtesy of Gatorade, all fueled up and ready to go.
02:21The starting five on the floor.
02:23So on the four for Memphis.
02:25Randolph is the four with Gasol in the middle.
02:28A lot of defense with Conley and Lee in the backcourt.
02:31And it's green in at the three slot.
02:32Just five to shoot.
02:35Here's Moutier.
02:37The step-back jumper is good.
02:40Moutier's got the game going with his first points of the game for Denver.
02:44And really, the Grizzlies might have dropped to fifth in that west in the final week.
02:48But they were near the top for most of last season.
02:52Often could be found in that two spot.
02:55Now here's Gasol.
02:56Moutier with the rebound.
02:59You're not going to see that very often.
03:01Plenty of space.
03:02But he just, let's face it, he whiffs on that one.
03:06There's a screen.
03:08Screen by Fareed.
03:10Moutier kicks to fourth.
03:12He got right to the cup.
03:14He's in that screen.
03:16The Grizzlies did slip late in the west, Greg, as you said.
03:20Still, you know, Clark, 35-17.
03:22That record in the conference was third best.
03:24And even more impressive was the fact that the Grizzlies played their best when playing the other top teams.
03:30They went 16-11 against the other Western Conference playoff teams.
03:35Green lets it go from the baseline and nails it.
03:37First 1.30 gone here in the first quarter.
03:42Let's go quickly over to Doris Burke for an update.
03:45I caught up with Coach Dave Yeager.
03:48I asked him what players he was really eyeing on the scouting report.
03:51And he said one that might surprise you, Kenneth Fareed.
03:55He said he plays with so much energy and effort.
03:58He really sets the bar for the rest of the team.
04:00If we can limit his impact on the game, I think it'll really be to our advantage.
04:05Guys, an interesting take.
04:07We'll see if they can slow his roll.
04:08Thank you, Doris.
04:09A good open look, and he splashes home the three.
04:14Fareed setting the pick from Moutier.
04:16Pass to Fareed.
04:20Can't hit.
04:20Some solid defense from Gasol.
04:23The Grizzlies have gone 2-3 here to start out the game.
04:27Gasol is screened.
04:28And it's Cottonley penetrating.
04:33Dishes it to Randolph.
04:37Foul call that time on the way up.
04:39That'll give him two chances at the free throw line here.
04:42Zach Randolph getting up there in his mid-30s,
04:45but his game has never been based on explosiveness.
04:49So it's all about strength, skill, and craft when you talk about Zeebo.
04:55And he's aging gracefully.
04:57And Randolph Clark can struggle in matchups against quicker power forwards
05:02with those spread forwards.
05:03Yeah, but even though he struggles on the perimeter against those guys,
05:07he punishes them when he gets them inside in his operating area at the offensive end.
05:12Most big men have a hard time dealing with him in the paint.
05:15Very good point.
05:27And the second free throw, good.
05:30In a league that's becoming more and more pick-and-roll oriented,
05:34Zach Randolph is more of a throwback, if you will.
05:38I mean, he likes to back his man down and battle for those offensive leaders.
05:42And so he ends a trip to the line.
05:47Officials saw the contact, and he'll shoot two.
05:50Oh, I love the power forward.
05:51Zach Randolph always seems to carve out space, the space he needs to play well.
05:56Yeah, he's unorthodox, but extremely gifted.
05:58A nice blend of physicality with high skill level,
06:02especially when you talk about shooting the ball.
06:05The Nuggets shooting their initial free throws of the game right here.
06:08Definitely an area where they can improve only 73% as a team from the line last year.
06:15And those aren't the kind of numbers they can afford to repeat throughout this season.
06:29And he makes the first, but misses the second.
06:31Now we know that Marc Gasol was one of the most sought after free agents this past summer.
06:36Clark all along, most likely he'd be back in Memphis.
06:39Yep, a winning team, max dollars.
06:41And don't forget now, he went to high school in Memphis
06:44while his brother Powell played there.
06:46He's where he belonged.
06:49Marc Gasol, a first-time All-Star starter last season.
06:53He and his brother Powell both started in that game.
06:56The first time that's ever happened in league history,
06:59and having both those guys go head-to-head.
07:17And both free throws good for a lead.
07:20Oh, listen, there's no doubt you could argue Marc Gasol
07:23is the best center in the league right now.
07:25I mean, this guy does it all.
07:27Defends, rebounds, passes, scores.
07:31I mean, he's also a great teammate.
07:33They all love him.
07:34And to me, that matters in the big picture.
07:36When you're talking about developing chemistry and trust,
07:40sometimes the difference between winning and winning it all
07:44is whether or not your teammates like you.
07:46Now, here's Green.
07:50Six to shoot.
07:51Here's Conley.
07:53First shot, first best.
07:54He's out of the blocks fast.
07:56Man, oh, man.
07:57You think about Mike Conley and how his shooting form has improved.
08:00I actually enjoy watching him shoot the ball now.
08:06Now, here's Moutier.
08:08D right on him.
08:09That's good.
08:10He makes it well.
08:11Moutier!
08:12Just over three and a half minutes gone here in the first.
08:19Conley dishes to lead.
08:22Pass to Gasol.
08:24And the wide open shot from Green.
08:26And it's off from three-point ring.
08:29The Nuggets trail by three.
08:31Now, here's Moutier.
08:40Farid, a screen on Cotty.
08:42Off the pick.
08:44A second chance effort.
08:46And Farid finishes inside.
08:48He got a great read of where that miss was going.
08:51And that allowed him to be the first guy to it and get the putback.
08:55Tanking is something that all teams that are out of it tend to do.
08:58I hate that word, Clark, but it seems to be the one used by a lot.
09:01Nuggets didn't really try to hide it last season either.
09:04Well, you know, it certainly looked that way.
09:06Right around March, they just started sitting key players for no real reason.
09:11They framed it as rest, but it didn't quite look that way.
09:15Mm-hmm.
09:16And guys, for the Nuggets, it seemed to come out of the blue for their players.
09:21They all felt fresh, but the press release would say they needed rest.
09:25So, obviously, a bit of miscommunication there.
09:29We'll see you next time.
09:59Big group substitution here for Denver.
10:11Yusuf Nurkic.
10:12He's checked in for Kenneth Farid.
10:14Hickson comes in for Wilson Chandler.
10:16Barton's checked in for Randy Foy.
10:19And Nelson is subbed in for Moutier.
10:22So, Memphis going with almost an entire new group here.
10:25Wright, he's checked in for Randa.
10:27Barnes comes in for Green.
10:29Tony Allen's checked in for Lee.
10:31And Zudrick in for Mike Conlon.
10:34Now, here's Nurkic.
10:35They find Jay on the way.
10:37And Gasol sends it back.
10:39And that'll be Denver as it goes out of bounds.
10:42Nuggets retain possession.
10:43Nelson left side.
11:00Just five to shoot.
11:02Kicks it to Hickson.
11:04Martin.
11:06But they recover it.
11:07Gollinari against Barnes.
11:13Back to Hickson.
11:21And again, Denver no good.
11:23And the Grizzlies leading by three.
11:27Good looking screen by Gasol.
11:30Unloads from 13.
11:32Can't get it to go.
11:34And Denver the other way now.
11:3813 feet away.
11:40And the shot no good.
11:41A bit short.
11:41That's one he knows he should have trained.
11:45And Udrick gets to right.
11:47And there's the feed to Barnes.
11:50It's good.
11:51He makes his first shot of the game.
11:52Here's Barton.
11:56Quiet so far offensively.
11:58Searching for his first points of the game.
12:00To the right side.
12:05Gollinari against Barnes.
12:07And it's Gollinari missing.
12:09And I don't know if he needs a rest in this quarter or what.
12:12But he needs something to get off the snide.
12:17Here's Gasol.
12:18And he can't bank that one in.
12:22And that concludes the first quarter of play.
12:27Grizzlies lead by five.
12:29From the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver.
12:32We're back in a moment.
12:32We're back in a moment.
12:52Out of the court.
12:54You're very open.
12:56Out of the second quarter.
12:57Getting ready to start up.
12:58And for Memphis guys.
13:00What jumps out to you stat-wise?
13:03A lot of tough D being played by them so far.
13:06It's been the difference maker.
13:07Greg, no uncontested shots for the most part.
13:10That's why they've had success.
13:11I don't know.
13:21I don't know.
13:22I'll see you last week.
13:22I'll see you last week.
13:24experiance made by the PS.
14:57And it's Kenneth Farid with the foul.
15:01That's foul number two for him.
15:06And here are the Grizzlies with it.
15:17Seven-point game, the biggest lead in the game.
15:19Kicked by Randolph.
15:24Conley kicks to Carter.
15:32Five on the clock.
15:33Fires from the line.
15:39And the rebound by Nurkic.
15:41Nuggets did have their problems on the offensive end, too.
15:44Something that's rare for them.
15:45Hitting the open shot, the mid-range shot, and beyond being one of them.
15:49You know, Kevin, how about being last in the league in catch-and-shoot field goal percentage?
15:53I mean, got a good amount of looks that way, but really struggled shooting only 34% in those situations.
16:01Well, perhaps one of the most intriguing draft picks of this past summer.
16:05Emmanuel Moutier can be a game-changing player.
16:09He was going to play.
16:10Clark, as you recall, at SMU for Larry Brown.
16:12He sure was and went overseas instead, so we don't know a ton about him other than his reputation is sterling.
16:20Now we'll see if he can live up to it.
16:42And so it's Memphis with it.
17:06It's a five-point game.
17:08And how about Moutier, guys?
17:10He has a very interesting upbringing.
17:13Born in the Congo, grew up in Texas, then spent last season in China.
17:18Already a very well-traveled young man for a player of his age.
17:23Wow, wow, he got whacked on that one.
17:26Shouldn't be much debate there.
17:27Blatant contact.
17:29Straightforward call.
17:30Simple.
17:35And you know what, Moutier, you can't ignore what he does on the court.
17:37But he has amazing size at the point guard spot, excellent vision, and is a natural playmaker for his squad.
17:45The throw good, Wilson Chandler.
17:47You know, when I think of Wilson Chandler, what comes to mind is supreme athleticism.
17:52He can throw it down with the best of them.
17:54And yet he's still working on the other areas of his game to be more well-rounded.
18:07He hits both from a strike.
18:10You know, back to Wilson Chandler, he's somewhat of a wild card.
18:13One of the few guys to go overseas, remember, Greg, during that NBA lockout in 2011, he signed to play for China
18:19and didn't negotiate an out clause when he signed.
18:23Yeah, and truth is, Chandler's one of those guys who can give you some solid minutes.
18:27But you hope at some point that he gets serious and commits to reaching his full potential.
18:33Now, here's Moutier.
18:35Jeff Green missing his last shot.
18:36And here in the second, two minutes gone by.
18:46Foy with it.
18:48Six to shoot.
18:52It's stolen by Green.
18:54Oh, and here we go with Lee.
18:55Nobody back.
18:57Lee's it in off the breakaway.
18:59Lee's got seven points.
19:01How's that for a quick possession?
19:03Yeah, no hesitation at all taking that one to the basket.
19:07Beautifully done.
19:10Moutier passed to Foy.
19:12And a miss there on the triple.
19:14Rare you'll see him miss such an open look.
19:21Green, the screen.
19:24Feeds to Randolph.
19:26And the rebound by Nurkic.
19:29Nurkic has got three rebounds now in this one.
19:32Foy with it.
19:33He's picked up by Lee.
19:36Now, here is Foy.
19:40He's guarded closely.
19:43Six on the shot clock.
19:48Green against Chandler.
19:50And the whistle blow.
19:52It's going to be on Jeff Green.
19:54That's his first foul.
19:55Yeah, clearly, he had an established position there.
19:58Yeah, and I like this call because you want the refs in that situation.
20:03If there's any doubt, err on the side of giving the benefit of the doubt to the offensive player.
20:08That should have been a block, and it was.
20:10J.J.
20:11Hickson, he's checked in for Denver.
20:13Alinari comes in for Wilson Chandler.
20:15Marc Gasol's checked in for the Grizzlies.
20:18Allen comes in for Courtney Lee.
20:22And the pass to Galinari.
20:24He dishes it to Hickson.
20:29Here's Moutier.
20:30And he gets it to go.
20:33Moutier's got six.
20:34And the Grizzlies leading by three.
20:37Conley kicks to Allen.
20:39Pass to Gasol.
20:43And a pick pounce off the rim, but it sinks right in.
20:46There's no doubt about it in my mind.
20:48Marc Gasol is one of the best big men shooters in the league.
20:55Now, here's Moutier.
20:56Covered by Conley.
20:58Here's the dish to four.
21:00Screened by Fareed.
21:02Off the pick.
21:03Nice pass.
21:04Nice catch.
21:05And a resounding dunk.
21:06He is an automatic finisher when he gets into that area.
21:09You know, he fixed the simple one-handed stuff to get the two points.
21:13Yeah, and in a close game, though, guys, those could be really important points.
21:19Randolph missing again.
21:21The Nuggets trail by three.
21:24Boyd dishes to Moutier.
21:30He feeds it to Galinari.
21:31Let's go from 14.
21:38And the rebound goes to the Grizzlies.
21:42There's 1.26 left to play here in the half.
21:46Randolph a screen.
21:51Allen right side.
21:52Will not go.
21:59This is off the front iron.
22:01Denver's gone 0-2 from deep here in the second.
22:03Fareed a screen on Allen.
22:07Moutier kicks to Galinari.
22:10Releases from the wing and throws it.
22:12That's the third straight make off an assist.
22:15Great ball move.
22:16Conley the pass to Green.
22:20He kicks it to Randolph.
22:23Takes the turner on Jay.
22:25The Grizzlies with another miss.
22:27The shooting numbers just aren't there yet in the quarter.
22:32Fareed a screen on Conley.
22:34Here's Moutier.
22:38Breaks it off the glass.
22:40Moutier's got eight points.
22:42Boyd, they keep hammering away at him inside.
22:44Forcing that ball into the paint.
22:46Smash mouth basketball.
22:47And Clark, it's a strategy that has served them well during the course of this first half.
22:53Now here's Gasol.
22:54It's nine seconds separating the shot clock in game.
22:58That is some tough defense there against one of the better finishers in our game.
23:03Puts it up from 12.
23:08Now here's Moutier.
23:10Defended by Allen.
23:11Here's Fareed.
23:13Good work defensively by Conley.
23:19And the first half comes to a conclusion in a game that has been very close so far.
23:24Nuggets ahead as they end the second quarter on a 12-4 run.
23:29We'll see you back here after the break for third quarter basketball.
23:33And now, the 2K Sports Halftime Show.
23:43Hello again, everybody.
23:44Ernie Johnson here alongside Kenny, the Jets, Smith, and Shaquille O'Neal.
23:48We'll be looking back at the game's first half.
23:50A pretty close game for the Nuggets throughout the first quarter.
23:54The largest lead for them during the period was four.
23:57Some great work in the second quarter as they fought hard and were able to make up the difference
24:02and then some, now leading by one.
24:04Kenny, your thoughts on the Nuggets' first half.
24:06Well, they committed to pounding the ball inside and they were rewarded for it.
24:12Points in the paint.
24:13Those kept the defense honest because teams have gotten really good at running the three-point
24:18shooters off the line.
24:19So getting it inside was a good attack in the first half.
24:23And Shaq, let's get your input on the Grizzlies.
24:26You know, they didn't play it too safe.
24:28They made some really nice shots.
24:30Those were some much-needed points and it keeps them right in the game.
24:33As long as they stay on the same page and keep working together,
24:36they got a great chance to take control of this game.
24:39So that does it for us.
24:40Hope you enjoyed our halftime show.
24:42Now, we take you back to Kevin Harlan for the second half call.
24:45And now, the start of the second half.
24:59Neither side jumping out ahead through the first two quarters.
25:02Nice game.
25:03Great performance by Emmanuel Moutier.
25:05The way he was able to attack the rim in that first half,
25:09defenders are going to need to start building walls
25:12and being connected defensively
25:14if they want to have any chance to stop him.
25:17Now, come on, Greg.
25:17That's much easier said than done when he's the penetrator.
25:21I mean, his speed and agility make him extremely tough to cover.
25:25Getting underway here in the second half.
25:27Here's the five for Dave Yeager.
25:29On the wings, it's Lee and Green.
25:31And off is the four with Gasol in the middle.
25:33And it's Conley in at the point guard position.
25:36The D just sagged off just enough
25:39and no hesitation on his part.
25:42Well, I tell you, the Grizzlies, guys,
25:44were really dominant in the first half of the season last year.
25:47But after the All-Star break, barely played above .500.
25:52Memphis leading.
25:56Now Lee.
25:58Seven points in the game.
26:01And it's Gasol penetrating.
26:04Gets to the rim for two with the D all over him.
26:07Gasol's got six.
26:09And when the size advantage is as big as it was there,
26:12I mean, that's exactly what he's supposed to do in that situation.
26:16The shot's good from Fareed.
26:18Some big points there.
26:19I mean, they got him on a nice play to get the ball right to the bucket.
26:23And exactly what they're looking for down the stretch, Clark.
26:26Just more of the same.
26:28Now here's Conley to the inside.
26:32Gasol drives in.
26:33And another basket for Memphis.
26:35He shot the ball exceptionally well as they've built this lead for themselves here.
26:40They could use a big shot here to get this offense going.
26:42Sure could, Kev.
26:43I mean, too many empty trips.
26:45They need some points.
26:47Memphis known for how tough they are at home,
26:49but they were equally tough, Clark, on the road last season.
26:52Yeah, grit and grind.
26:53Traveled well, Kevin.
26:55I mean, even on the road, they were able to force teams to play at their pace.
27:29And the night has made some changes.
27:42Yusuf Nurkic, he's checked in for Kenneth Fareed.
27:45Martin comes in for Randy Ford.
27:48And Jameer Nelson is subbed in for Moutier.
27:51Memphis also making some changes.
27:53Wright comes in for Zach Randolph.
27:55And Matt Barnes is subbed in for Green.
27:59Third quarter here, over a minute and a half into it.
28:06Here's Nelson, and he drops in the way up off the glass.
28:10And, guys, consistency always a key for the Grizzlies.
28:14And when you talk of consistency,
28:16how about having the same field goal percentage,
28:19whether away or at home?
28:21Now here's Conley, off the pick.
28:25A baseline J.
28:27No good from Lee.
28:29Now gets trail.
28:32Chandler kicks to Nelson.
28:39Pass to Nurkic.
28:40Here's Barton, covered by Lee.
28:46Barton dishes to Nelson.
28:48Four on the shot clock.
28:51That one wide left.
28:54And, you know, to be able to knock down shots on the road
28:56the same way you do at home
28:58is why the Grizzlies racked up 24 road wins.
29:01I mean, it helps when you can attack the basket,
29:03as they do,
29:04and work things inside close to the rim.
29:07The Nuggets have gone 2-4 here to start the second half.
29:13Chandler with a screen for Nelson.
29:16Dishes it to Chandler.
29:25And foul called as he misses.
29:27He'll go to the line and shoot two.
29:30And we've seen it all, guys.
29:31The Nuggets have been in free fall the last couple years.
29:34Part of that is their play at home,
29:35where G.A., they used to be invincible.
29:38You remember back in the day, Kevin,
29:40I mean, one of the most difficult places to play
29:43was in Denver.
29:44I mean, you're dealing with the thin air,
29:46but that hasn't been the case here of late.
29:48George Carl just prided his team on what they did at home.
29:54You know, Denver ended with a 19-22 record
29:56at home last season,
29:57and that's a far cry from when the Nuggets
30:00would typically win 30 or more games at home.
30:03Vince Carter, he's checked in for the Grizzlies.
30:06Woodrick comes in for Michael Conley.
30:12And it's tied up with that one.
30:15And you'd have to go all the way back
30:17to their dreadful 2003 campaign
30:20to find the last time the Nuggets
30:21went below 500 at home.
30:24Very strange to see them be just mediocre
30:27in this building last season.
30:29And he recovers it.
30:29And now the fast break.
30:32Nelson with the ball.
30:35And two free throws coming up as he misses that one.
30:38Drawing the whistle and a lot of contact there.
30:40No question he got bumped on that shot.
30:43Yeah, the officials didn't need to talk that one over.
30:45It was obvious.
30:47And you look at Jameer Nelson.
30:48Played his first 10 years with Orlando.
30:50Then he got traded to the Celtics last season.
30:52Then again to Denver.
30:54That had to be tough for a crafty veteran like him.
30:57A tough adjustment.
30:58You know, you look at last year,
31:01one of his worst statistically,
31:03especially from a field goal percentage standpoint.
31:05I really agree with you.
31:07I think he was affected by all of the changes,
31:09scenery and system.
31:11Let's look to see him have a bounce back this season.
31:14And, you know, talking about Jameer Nelson,
31:16what a blessing and luxury being with the same team for a full decade.
31:20I had a short career, only five years, was with the same team.
31:23Man, I wish I could have played for multiple teams
31:26if it would have been a 10 or 12 year career.
31:29That would have been cool.
31:30And the Nuggets making a change here.
31:32Hickson's checked in.
31:33Both free throws good for Nelson.
31:36And when you think of Jameer Nelson,
31:38he can still contribute as a team leader.
31:41This adjustment happens to everyone as the career starts to wind down.
31:45And it's a choice.
31:47You can either be a part of the problem or a part of the solution.
31:53Just over three and a half minutes through the third quarter of play now.
31:59Pass to Barton.
32:05Inside.
32:05It's deflected.
32:07Gasol with the steal.
32:09Three on three.
32:11Here's Barnes.
32:12It's good.
32:13This time the assist from Udrich.
32:15Barnes has got his second basket.
32:17Boy, such outstanding patience and decision making for them offensively.
32:22Absolutely.
32:23Their ball movement has been outstanding.
32:26And they're piling up the assist.
32:28Now, here is Nelson.
32:33Six on the shot clock.
32:34And here's Chandler from the arc.
32:38Denver gets it back.
32:39Nurkic.
32:40And that one's good.
32:42Nurkic has got the game tied up here for Denver.
32:46Grizzlies have gotten five of eight shots to fall for them in the third quarter.
32:50A nice 62% from the field.
32:52And use of Nurkic, really a big, good-looking young prospect.
32:57He's the guy that took Moskov's place in Denver.
33:00Yeah, originally, Kevin drafted by the Bulls at number 16 and traded to Denver, as he indicated.
33:05His sheer size alone, 7 feet 280, that makes him a force on the glass.
33:10He's the guy that took Moskov's place.
33:40He's the guy that took Moskov's place.
34:10Three left in the third quarter.
34:15And Nurkic kicks to Allen.
34:17Wright outside.
34:20And Carter has it in the corner.
34:22Wright sets a screen.
34:24Shot clock at five.
34:26Takes it from ten.
34:27And it's Denver with the rebound.
34:30Hickson's got three rebounds now in this one.
34:35Chandler, the pass to Hickson.
34:37Hickson sets the screen for Nelson.
34:44Hickson a screen.
34:49Nelson, right side.
34:52It's rebounded by Memphis.
34:55Gasol's got his third rebound on the night.
34:58Carter outside.
34:59Hickson outside.
35:00A line-open look for Gasol.
35:02And another miss by Memphis.
35:04I guess even he has to miss one of those once in a while.
35:09Hickson a screen.
35:13Nelson outside.
35:14On the wing, Chandler.
35:20And the shot no good.
35:21A bit short.
35:22For Memphis, they've gone even five or ten on shot attempts in the third.
35:29Here's Udrich.
35:30Looking for his first basket still in this one.
35:33Kicks it to Gasol.
35:34The jump hook.
35:37That's good.
35:38And it's Udrich with the assist that time.
35:40And the Grizzlies lead by two.
35:46For three, Nelson.
35:48He got it up that time, but it wouldn't fall for him.
35:51Three quarters of play and a close game here.
35:54Memphis out in front.
35:55They lead by a bucket.
35:57And when we return, we'll get the fourth quarter rolling right here on 2K Sports.
36:01All right.
36:22The fourth quarter of action getting underway.
36:24We've had a great one so far with both sides coming to play.
36:31The Nugget shooting has been a little ragged, just 38% from the field.
36:41Filling out the wings, it's Foy and Gallinari.
36:44Hickson is out there with Kenneth Fareed.
36:46And it's Moutier in at the one.
36:47That's the group in the game for the Nuggets.
36:51Here's Foy.
36:53Another shot.
36:55The shot will not go.
36:56And Memphis the other way now.
36:57Outside Conley.
37:03Randolph a screen on Gallinari.
37:06Randolph sets a screen for Conley.
37:08To the middle.
37:11And it's going to be two free throws.
37:13Drew contact on the shot.
37:14Now let's take a moment to get your guys' take on the scoring zone for the Grizzlies.
37:30They've knocked down plenty of mid-range jumpers in this one.
37:33That's been big for them.
37:34Yeah, but the other thing that sticks out for me,
37:36the number of assists they've made over the course of this game.
37:39And Zach Randolph drops them both.
38:03And, you know, Denver was not that good against the West last season,
38:06but they weren't as bad as you would have thought.
38:08They managed to get 19 wins against the rest of the conference.
38:12And we know how tough the West is, so that's not shabby.
38:16Now, here is Gallinari.
38:20Hickson up top.
38:22Block at six.
38:24There's the three.
38:26Moutier, no good.
38:28Well, last year for the Nuggets, they were really searching.
38:31And they finished 12th in the Western Conference.
38:33Greg, they were 30-52.
38:35You know, not a great place to be.
38:37Let's face it, I mean, Kevin, Denver never really had a shot at the postseason,
38:41but weren't good enough to land at high draft pick either.
38:45Denver with the ball.
38:46Following the score by Memphis.
38:52Gallinari against Barnes.
38:54And Gallinari kicks to Moutier.
38:56Picks in a screen.
38:57No one near Moutier as he lets it go.
39:00Great use of the pick to create room for the jumper.
39:03Perfect screen there.
39:04Set him up with a terrific look.
39:06Yeah, I like the fact that the setup was good, the screen was solid,
39:09but you also have to look at the fact that the defender didn't do his job as well as he could have.
39:14And he thought he had a clear path to the hoop,
39:16but the defense didn't give up on that play and cut him off.
39:21The feed to Gallinari.
39:26There's the pass to Fareed.
39:29Here's Hickson.
39:30And out of bounds as Memphis gains possession.
39:36And Memphis making a change here.
39:38Gasol's checked in.
39:52Game moves along.
39:53Two minutes gone here in the fourth.
39:56Conley kicks to Lee.
39:58To the left wing.
40:00Memphis moving it around.
40:07Balls knocked loose.
40:09Shot clock at six.
40:14Randolph against Hickson.
40:17Offensive rebound.
40:18The mechanics totally out of whack right now.
40:21He's lost his feel for the shot.
40:23Yeah, he really has.
40:25I mean, just totally out of sync.
40:27I mean, you can just see it in the numbers.
40:29Nothing going down for him right now.
40:32You always hear about chemistry.
40:33That's a perfect example.
40:35Knowing where each other is at all times.
40:37On the wing, Green.
40:43Gallinari covering.
40:47So the whistle blows on the shot and two free throws for the contact right there.
40:52Yeah, good job to take it right at the deep.
40:54Yeah, really left him no choice there, Greg.
40:56I mean, he had to foul and keep him from converting the easy bucket.
41:01Shooting for down.
41:03Jack Green taking two shots.
41:08The first one's gone.
41:10They've been on fire from the free throw line.
41:12And that efficiency has really propelled them forward.
41:15Wilson Chandler's checked in for J.J. Hickson.
41:17And Jeff Green drops them both.
41:34Can you believe the job they're doing at the foul line since halftime?
41:37I mean, they've been perfect so far.
41:39Yeah, as cool as can be, Clark.
41:41Great focus and efficiency.
41:43That's how they built this league.
41:45Now, here is four.
41:48That's good.
41:49Defenders need to recognize and be alert to staying on him as we get into crunch time.
41:56Good looking screen by Gasol.
41:58And it's Conley penetrating.
42:01A nice shot by Gasol.
42:03We've seen a noticeable improvement out of him since halftime.
42:06He didn't have a whole lot working in the first half.
42:11Screen by Fareed.
42:13Moutier dishes to Fareed.
42:15Fareed a screen on Green.
42:17The high post shot.
42:18Shot is good.
42:19And the Memphis leads.
42:20But down to a single point after the basket from Dolanari.
42:23Boy, that was a rugged screen set there, fellas.
42:26And the defense didn't even try to go through that one.
42:30Yeah, maybe a change of the game plan right now.
42:33Looking at some different sets because of the matchups.
42:35Yeah, I agree with you.
42:36Because they're looking to tweak things to maybe get those matchups working in their favor.
42:41Make sure to wait for a good place.
42:45I hope that you have a other way.
42:46See you next time.
42:47See you.
42:47Yeah, we'll see you.
42:50Take care.
42:53Before we leave.
42:54Bye-bye.
42:56a moment to check in with doris burke doris yes guys over that last break i listened to dave
43:25jaeger address his team he tried to really fire them up to bring it home saying all night you have
43:32all night to rest after the final buzzer for now we have to lay it on the line and try to bring it
43:37home guys back to you use of nurkic he's checked in for free and gotta like what they've been doing
43:44down low in the post i certainly do you know i like to see guys do their work inside their rebounding
43:50has been excellent and that's always important in a close game chandler no good no one to blame on
43:56that one but himself you get looks like that you've got to take it back
44:00you'll catch against basalt and it's good off the back of the rim and in and the grizzlies lead by
44:11three this is a fantastic performance in this half he didn't play as well in the first but you know
44:17you just know what this guy he's always ready to turn it around without question mark disall
44:22displaying his skills today he's been attacking the rim with reckless abandon they're searching
44:27looking for answers some way they've got to figure out how to contain

45:42chandler the pastamudia down low
45:44and it's foray missing just tentative in the paint lacking a little bit of confidence
45:50allowed to defender to recover and contest that shot
45:53feeds it to gasol
45:56nurkic with the steal
45:57and the whistle blows it's going to be on michael comley
46:02that is his first call of the game
46:05yeah clearly he had an established position there
46:08yeah and i like this call because you want the refs in that situation if there's any doubt
46:14err on the side of giving the benefit of the doubt to the offensive player that should have been a block and it was
46:20there's one twenty-six left in the front of the side to the offensive
46:49There's 1.26 left in the fourth quarter of this one.
46:51And Boyd kicks to Nurkic, and he goes strong with the one-handed jam.
46:56Right back to the basics there, using the one-hand slam for that.
46:59Doesn't he make the basics look pretty exceptional?
47:01Yeah, he does. They look sweet when he doesn't.
47:04And they better stay with those basics, because this game is still yet to be determined.
47:18I don't know.
47:48I don't know.
48:181. And Gasol gets it to go.
48:21And since halftime, he has been a different player.
48:25Denver's gone 1-2 from three-point range here in the fourth.
48:31Down. Here's Moutier. Covered by Conley.
48:34Moutier, no good.
48:35That's not the type of opportunity he fails to convert very often.
48:39Conley gets it to Gasol.
48:44A baseline J.
48:47And the shot is long.
48:49The targets have gone 5-12 from the field, entering the fourth quarter.
48:52Here's Moutier, and there's the whistle.
48:58Fouled hard on the shot.
48:59He'll go to the line.
49:01It's going to be on set, Randolph.
49:02Shining for Denver.
49:13Emmanuel Moutier.
49:16Two shots.
49:17First free throw is good, and that brings them within two.
49:24Ball free throw is good for Moutier.
49:45You can probably expect to see him slow it down now.
49:55Yeah, you got the lead.
49:56Burn some clock here.
49:57Smart move.
49:58Yeah.
49:59Here's Gasol.
50:01Gasol missing again.
50:03This is a huge possession.
50:06And this is where all the hard work pays off.
50:09You have to be able to execute under pressure.
50:11Moutier dishes to Golinari.
50:13Eight-second difference between the shot clock and the game clock.
50:17Clock at six.
50:24It's good!
50:26He cannot forget about him like that.
50:29He'll light you up.
50:31Big time.
50:36Now on the court, your very own Rockets dancer, let him hear it.
50:43Here's Conley.
51:10Got it!
51:13You know, the defense has got to do a much better job of fighting over those screens.
51:18And Greg, especially when the ball is in his hands.
51:20I mean, come on now.
51:21You know he doesn't miss too many open looks like that.
51:23It's your very own Rockets dancer, let him hear it.
51:27You know mooi, you know what I mean.
51:28We know he's going.
51:29He doesn't miss too many open looks like that.
51:32And to whom he doesn't miss the motivation to find it.
51:34He's a hero.
51:35Here's Conley it to your house.
51:36We'reструкèsezony and Bee Get Organizer.
51:37We should pick one or two from the樹生 I mean.
51:38He's your own brother.
51:39Have a great opportunity.
51:41He's going to have an ass this conversation it takes.
51:42But we're not all the life that he does.
51:43There might be a sport in the Nolan's room.
51:44You know he doesn't have the time'sích.
51:45There might be one little note in that situation.
51:50It's a good one for you to make it today.
51:54He's a good boy to try.
51:54And there might be a big foyer in that situation.
52:55When the pressure was at its highest.
52:59And that'll wrap it up, folks.
53:00This is Kevin Harlan saying thanks for tuning in.
53:03So long.
53:04The 2K Sports Post Game Show.
53:07Welcome back, everybody.
53:14Ernie Johnson here along with Shaq and the Jet as we present our Jordan player of the game,
53:20Marc Gasol.
53:21He shows just how good he can be when he's at the top of his game.
53:24And the building was stuck.
53:26You saw people leaving early, throwing popcorn, throwing hot dogs, spilling soda.
53:31He put on a CSDP.
53:33A crowd shut down performance.
53:35Man, that's what I'm talking about, Ernie.
53:37He shot over 50% from the field in the game, a testament to how hard he worked to always find the best look possible.
53:44He was in constant motion.
53:46He found those gaps in the D and made the most of his open looks.
53:49And that's it for our broadcast here tonight.
53:54But we're just getting started on a new season in the NBA.
53:57For Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny the Jet Smith, Kevin Harlan, and the entire 2K Sports crew,
54:03I'm Ernie Johnson.
54:04We'll see you again soon.
