Charlamagne will host the weekly series, 'Tha God’s Honest Truth with Lenard "Charlamagne" McKelvey,' which is being billed as a culturally fluent take on social issues, with a mix of deep dives, sketches and social experiments.
00:07Stephen Colbert and Charlemagne the God are teaming up for a new late night show on Comedy Central.
00:11Colbert is returning to the network that made him famous as the co-creator and executive producer of a weekly talk show fronted by Charlemagne the God,
00:18who's long been one of the most influential and controversial voices in New York radio.
00:23What can one person do?
00:30Well, you can start by executive producing my new show.
00:33The series aptly titled The God's Honest Truth with Leonard Charlemagne McKelvey is set to launch Friday, September 17th at 10pm.
00:40The half hour series based in New York is being billed as a culturally fluent take on social issues with a mix of deep dives, sketches and social experiments.
00:48Charlemagne has shared history with Colbert, a fellow South Carolina native.
00:51Charlemagne met Colbert in 2016 when he first appeared on Colbert's CBS late night show and he's since been back six times.
00:57Charlemagne also has a relationship with MTV Entertainment Group's president and CEO Chris McCarthy, who's producing the show in-house.
01:03The two first worked together a decade ago when McCarthy was running MTV2 and Charlemagne was a regular on the network's Guy Code.
01:09He later hosted a pair of talk shows, Charlemagne and Friends and Uncommon Sense with Charlemagne for MTV2.
01:15Charlemagne said,
01:16This is the third talk show Chris McCarthy has done with me and those shows prepared me for this opportunity.
01:21My South Carolina brethren Stephen Colbert is the ultimate cosign in the late night space and he wouldn't cosign no bullsh**.
01:26We are going to win an Emmy next year for best lighting direction. I can feel it.
01:30And Colbert added,
01:31I look forward to all the ways in which the fearless, peerless Charlemagne is going to change the game.
01:35McCarthy dialed up the praise, calling Charlemagne, quote,
01:37one of the most culturally significant voices of our time.
