We interviewed the artist, Lights, for her debut Coachella performance.

00:00Hey guys, it's Lene here and we're backstage at Coachella. Look, a beautiful lake and a beautiful giraffe.

00:05Pretty sure it's real. And I'm like freaking out because I'm about to interview my favorite artist, Lights.

00:14Is this your first time at Coachella?

00:15First time at Coachella and we're playing. You know, I've always wanted to go as a fan and now we get to play it.

00:21And it's my birthday.

00:22Is it your birthday today? Happy birthday!

00:24So it's a good birthday present. Thank you.

00:25Oh my gosh, that's awesome.

00:28So Nato, thank you very much.

00:29I think the most important thing in terms of planning for an event like Coachella is a set list.

00:33I have three albums to choose from and we have a 45 minute set.

00:36Like how do you figure out what songs you want to show people for the first time?

00:39Because a lot of people are seeing you for the first time.

00:41And so I just pick my favorite songs. I mean try to keep something energetic.

00:48So I've been listening to you since The Listening.

00:51Who are some of your musical influences?

00:53I mean there's long-standing inspiration for me.

00:54One of them is York, like powerful lady musicians.

00:57Joni Mitchell, Penny Smith, Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper.

01:00Especially on this new record.

01:01Like Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush.

01:03Really influenced it.

01:04This classic electronic type sound.

01:06It's been really, really influential.

01:08So I also follow your little daughter Rocket on Instagram.

01:11And I love her outfits.

01:12She has so cute clothes.

01:13Did you bring her?

01:14Is she all Coachella'd out?

01:15She's here, yeah.

01:16She's here, yeah.

01:17I actually did bring flower crowns for her.

01:19Because it's like, it's cool if it's a baby, right?

01:22Oh no, totally.

01:23I haven't given up any of my dreams to be a mother.

01:33And it sounds horrible that anybody would ever have to think that that would have to happen.

01:38Being a mother makes your dreams better.

01:40And that's what it's done for me.

01:41And she's with me every tip of the way.

01:43And it's really beautiful.

01:44I feel more confident and more comfortable in my skin than ever.

01:46Last question.

01:47Do you have a best friend?

01:48I'm just kidding.

01:49No.

01:50I can't wait to ask you that.

01:51Yes!
