00:00Speaking of smaller nations, though, on the flip side, I think there's a country that has done themselves very proud, and that is Gabon.
00:07The player at Gabon that I really want us to speak about is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
00:12That is a player who he promised his father a long time ago.
00:15He's even said it himself. He said, I could have won a World Cup in the sense that he could have played for France.
00:19Absolutely could have played for France. Maybe not started, but France for a long time had Giroud up top.
00:24I think you bring Aubameyang. He's on the squad.
00:27He's on the squad for sure.
00:28They were at Arsenal together, no?
00:29Yeah, so Aubameyang absolutely could have been on that France squad that won a World Cup, but he chose to represent Gabon, chose to represent his father's country.
00:38There's a video of him kind of walking out the field with his head held down, and I almost wanted to tell him, like, nah, bro, lift your head up.
00:43What you represent for African football is incredible. He's a pillar of African sports.
00:48I don't know if you guys can kind of just speak to who Aubameyang is and what he represents for African football.
00:52Yeah, I mean, I think, like, almost without, I fear of being over-dramatized. I think, like, he's a sacrificial lamb in the sense that, like, he sacrificed trophies.
01:03He sacrificed certain, like, memories that he could have had with the French national team to be an example of somebody who chose to represent his roots and represent a country that means more to him and not be, like, sold to, like, the glamour and the glitz of, like, playing in Europe and actually say, like, I'm going to commit to playing for the home team regardless of if we win nothing.
01:23That has been another episode of Five Aside on BN Sports. See you guys next week.
