00:01After marrying Prince Charles 16 years ago, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, became a part

00:06of the royal family and stepmother to Charles' two sons, William and Harry.

00:11When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit their royal duties back in March 2020 and moved

00:16to the United States, however, Camilla stood by her disappointed husband's side.

00:21The royal father and son were thrown into turmoil amid this so-called Megxit.

00:26According to Prince Harry, Charles stopped talking to him after the move.

00:30Per unnamed sources close to the situation, Charles was not impressed with his son's willingness

00:35to go on record and talk about his family.

00:38One source told Us Weekly,

00:40"...Charles does not agree with Harry trashing his whole family in public.

00:45Charles thinks these matters could have easily been addressed in private."

00:48For Harry's part, he reportedly feels his father could have been more supportive of his wish

00:53to step down from his duties in the royal family.

00:55When the Duke of Sussex returned to the UK for Prince Philip's funeral, a source told

01:00Us Weekly that Harry and Charles did not resolve their differences.

01:04They said,

01:05"...there definitely continues to be a huge wedge between the two."

01:08According to The Telegraph, the Duchess of Cornwall has been busy supporting her husband

01:13throughout this whole ordeal.

01:15Clearly, she has chosen a side, which poses interesting questions as to her future relationship

01:20with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

01:22It all began, of course, during that tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2020,

01:27in which the Duke of Sussex revealed that he felt let down by his father.

01:31He also implied that his father and brother were trapped in their roles and duties within

01:36the royal family.

01:37"...They don't get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that."

01:43This and Harry's ensuing comments have apparently not sat well with Prince Charles.

01:48As a result, Camilla has become protective and defensive of her husband, according to Telegraph

01:53sources.

01:54While one source confirmed that the rift with Harry has been hard on Charles, another spoke

01:58specifically about Camilla's feelings, reporting that she would stay by her husband's side no

02:03matter what.

02:04This seemingly means she will also never forgive the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

02:09The source said,

02:10"...I don't think the Duchess will ever forgive Meghan for what she's done to the Prince of Wales."

02:15It seems that the rift isn't close to being over, either, especially as Prince Harry is

02:19getting ready to release his tell-all memoir next year.

02:23Publisher Penguin Random House describes the book as,

02:26"...the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have

02:31helped shape Harry."

02:33No doubt, both the public and the royal family will be wondering what might come out in the

02:38new book.

02:39Of course, one of the saddest aspects of this rift is the fact that, prior to their departure,

02:44the Duchess of Sussex had grown close to certain members of the family, including Queen

02:48Elizabeth II and the Duchess of Cornwall.

02:51In 2019, Vanity Fair reported that Camilla had served as a pillar of support to the Prince

02:57and Meghan Markle.

02:58When Markle admitted that the media scrutiny she faced had caused a profound negative effect

03:03on her mental health, the Duchess of Cornwall was, reportedly, an understanding ally.

03:08A source close to Camilla stated,

03:10"...she wants everyone to get along and be happy.

03:13Her mantra is, carry on and keep smiling."

03:16She doesn't want to see anyone struggling, and she is fond of Meghan.

03:20And she could be a very good ally, too.

03:22Sally Bedell-Smith, who works as a biographer for the royal family, echoed the sentiment that

03:27Camilla was in a unique position to help Meghan navigate the issues that come with her position.

03:33After all, she herself suffered at the hands of the British press when the world learned

03:37of her affair with Prince Charles, who was still married to Princess Diana at the time.

03:42Smith told Vanity Fair,

03:44"...I think Camilla can easily empathize with Meghan because of what she went through in

03:48the media."

03:49No one was more belledgered by the tabloids than Camilla, but she was shrewd enough to

03:53know that antagonism would get her nowhere.

03:56Unfortunately, it seems like this is one pillar of support that won't be rebuilt anytime soon.
