00:00As you may recall, Jada Pinkett Smith recently decided to let her hair go by shaving her

00:06whole head.

00:07Taking to Instagram, Jada said that her daughter Willow Smith convinced her, writing,

00:11"'Willow made me do it because it was time to let go, but my 50s are about to be divinely

00:17lit with this shed.'"

00:18Though inspired by Willow, Jada likely also shaved her head due to her past issues with

00:23hair loss.

00:24In the 2018 episode of Red Table Talk, Jada opened up about her alopecia experience,

00:30saying,

00:31"'A lot of people have been asking about why I've been wearing turbans.

00:34Well, I haven't talked about it.

00:36It's not easy to talk about, but I am going to talk about it.'"

00:40As she explained, Jada first began losing hair while in the shower.

00:43"'It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking with fear.'"

00:48So in order to mask the loss of hair, Jada began wearing turbans.

00:52Meanwhile, Willow spontaneously shaved all of her hair back in 2012 when she was only

00:5711 years old.

00:58"'Why do it if you're not gonna have fun?'

01:02"'We came downstairs and she had shaved her head bald.'"

01:06I was like, oh, wow.

01:08What was his reaction to seeing Jada bald, though?

01:11Well, on the September 15th episode of Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith sat down with

01:16guest Tiffany Haddish, alongside daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris for

01:21a conversation.

01:23At some point during their chat, Haddish asked Jada about Will Smith's reaction to her shaving

01:27her hair.

01:28Jada said, quote,

01:29"'He loves it.'"

01:30Willow also shared that, at the time, she received a text from her father saying how

01:35Jada looks, quote, "'Stunning.'"

01:37Later in the episode, Jada further discussed saying goodbye to her hair.

01:41The actor admitted,

01:42"'It was just time.

01:44I was just ready for that kind of expression and release.

01:47I'm so glad I did it.

01:48It was such a beautiful experience and such a freedom.'"

01:52Jada also said that she now feels, quote,

01:54"'more connected with herself' and to the great divine."

01:57Jada went on to add that the experience taught her to simply stop caring what people think.

02:02Haddish, who shaved off her hair in the summer of 2020, shared similar sentiments as the host.

02:08Haddish said on Red Table Talk,

02:10"'During the beginning of the pandemic, I was reading the Bible more, checking up on

02:14the Torah and everything.

02:16Everything is talking about, know thyself, know thyself, and that just kept resonating

02:21with me.

02:22I'm like, okay, when I hear things, I take it literal.'"

02:24Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith aren't the only ones in the family to have shaved their

02:29hair.

02:30A few years ago, Jaden Smith cut off his dreadlocks for a movie role, with some help from his dad,

02:35Will Smith.

02:36Taking to Facebook, Will shared a few pictures of the aftermath.

02:39To accompany the pictures, Will wrote on Facebook in April 2017, getting Jaden Smith ready for

02:45the first day of filming, life in a year.

02:48Maybe I should have used scissors?

02:49Still, Jaden wasn't ready to let his locks go for good.

02:53A few months later at the 2017 Met Gala, the young actor arrived on the red carpet with an

02:58unusual companion, his old dreadlocks.

03:02Jaden told Teen Vogue,

03:03Since I couldn't bring my sister as a date, I brought my old hair.

03:06For now, the locks are stored in a safe place.

03:09That same year, Jaden said on The World, according to Jaden Smith,

03:13The dreads are at my parents' house right now, just chilling in a glass box.

03:17However, Jaden described a few downsides of having long dreadlocks, explaining on The World,

03:22according to Jaden Smith,

03:23They smelled like coconut oil and metal, because I had the rings in them.

03:28So it smelled like coconut oil, metal, and bleach.

03:31And when you mix those together, it's not amazing.

03:34Jaden continued,

03:35I'm glad I have no dreads.

03:36I'm glad that I can go swimming at night and I don't have to be really cold and wake

03:40up with wet hair.
