00:21Perhaps Reeves doesn't want to get married because the very thought of starting a family

00:25brings back sad memories.

00:26The actor was once very much in love.

00:28According to Paper, Reeves met David Lynch's assistant, Jennifer Syme, in 1998 at a party

00:35for Reeves' band, Dog Star.

00:37They immediately hit her off and she eventually got pregnant.

00:39The couple planned to name their little girl Ava.

00:41But in late 1999, a month before she was due, Syme's pregnancy resulted in a stillborn.

00:48According to People, the couple couldn't deal with the loss and broke up a few weeks later,

00:52though they still remain close friends.

00:54Then in April 2000, Syme tragically died at the wheel of her car.

00:57According to MTV News, she was on her way home from a party at Marilyn Manson's house.

01:02As People reported, she sideswiped three parked cars, rolled over several times, and was thrown

01:07from the car.

01:08The magazine goes on to reveal,

01:09"...In her car, police found prescribed antidepressants and two rolled-up dollar bills

01:14with a white powdery substance inside."

01:16At the time, a friend told People,

01:18Reeves is finding it very, very difficult to cope with her death.

01:21In an interview with Parade magazine in 2006, Reeves admitted,

01:25"...Grief changes shape, but it never ends.

01:28People have a misconception that you can deal with it and say,

01:31it's gone, and I'm better.

01:32They're wrong.

01:33When the people you love are gone, you're alone."

01:35Here's something that might get in the way of Keanu Reeves getting married.

01:39Technically, he may already be married.

01:41Appearing on The Talk in January 2019, Reeves revealed,

01:45"...Yeah, once in a while I'll get a text, hello, husband."

01:48Wait, what?

01:50He's referring to none other than Winona Ryder, who co-starred with him in Bran Stoker's Dracula.

01:55Well, it turns out Keanu and Winona may have actually tied the knot on the set of the 1992

02:02Ryder shed more light on the situation in an August 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly,

02:07revealing,

02:08"...I'm convinced we really did get married because it was a real Romanian priest, and they

02:14did a master that he did the whole thing."

02:19Speaking to The Guardian, director Francis Ford Coppola admitted he wasn't pleased with the

02:23first version of the scene, so he came up with a plan.

02:33So yeah, he brought in an actual priest.

02:36Coppola goes on to say,

02:41a result of this scene and this ceremony.

02:47It sounds like the actor may have given up hope on getting married, or ever having children.

02:59The year 2017 might have been a particularly low period for the 49 Ronin star, as his perception

03:06of love seemed entirely grim during his interview with Esquire.

03:40You know, I'm the lonely guy.

03:42I don't have anyone in my life.

03:43But if it does occur, I would respect and love the other person.

03:48Keanu Reeves may be hard to get close to, quite literally.

03:51In June 2019, The Matrix star made headlines for a rather bizarre reason.

03:56Twitter users started pointing out that he doesn't touch women when he poses for photos.

04:01CNN caught wind of the phenomenon and compiled various fan responses.

04:08He's reacting to the Me Too movement by realizing that hey, wait, maybe women want more space

04:13and changing his actions.

04:14Trendspotters at CNN went for broke and declared that Keanu Reeves is officially a national treasure.

04:20Well, if that's true, Reeves was apparently oblivious to the fact.

04:23The same month these endearing photo moments were making headlines, the actor stopped to

04:27talk to people as he walked the red carpet for the Toy Story 4 premiere.

04:31"...you've been dubbed the internet's boyfriend.

04:33Everyone is just kind of gushing over you on the internet.

04:35You didn't know that yet."

04:54The tabloid perhaps overstated the situation, writing that,

05:02like a blossoming relationship has given the Lake House actor a bit of pep in his step."

05:08In 2014, and obviously in a meditative state of mind, Reeves told the German website Buntah,

05:13"...I still don't have a family or kids, but I was just unlucky."

05:16Reflecting on the very concept of love, Reeves went on to say,

05:20"...social differences, standing, where you come from are still unique to every culture.

05:24But hopefully, love conquers all."

05:26So much to chew on there, and it's certainly an optimistic point of view.

05:30Keep in mind, we're now several years away from the birth of that sad Keanu meme.

05:34"...there's a sort of mythology that surrounds you, that you're sad, that there's this whole

05:41sad Keanu thing..."
