00:01Thank you very much Emma, good evening everyone from an Ibrox stadium where the vibe is more cautiously upbeat than usual this season.
00:08For weeks now the banners and the angst from the stands have been directed at Kevin Kelwell and Patrick Stewart.
00:14Now the axe has fallen on sporting director and chief executive.
00:18Like Russell Martin before them, the figures many supporters wanted gone have been relieved of their duties.
00:24They leave behind a lavishly assembled squad with little evidence of a return on that investment on the pitch or the balance sheet and with which manager Danny Hull must now try to find a winning formula.
00:37Rangers remain marooned at the foot of the Europa League standings on a club record losing streak in this competition.
00:44Tonight a Braga team who have already conquered the green and white side of Glasgow are aiming to pile on the misery and make it an old firm double on their travels.
00:54For this grand goal, Scottish footballing institution, turbulence and consequence of the game.
00:57For this grand goal, Scottish footballing institution, turbulence and consequence of the game.
01:24Can Rangers take a big step in the healing process on a wet, cold and wintry evening at Ibrox stadium?
01:33This is a game Rangers can ill afford to lose, no points in a single goal from four matches, already savaging their aspirations of reaching the knockout phase.
01:44Another defeat to the Portuguese visitors might just be terminal.
01:48Danny Hull tonight making three changes to the team which squeezed past Livingston here on Saturday.
01:53Max Ahrens coming in for Jadon Magoma at the left side of the defence.
01:56Conor Barron will add steel and energy to the midfield.
01:59And the £8 million summer recruit Yusuf Cermiti has recovered from injury to lead the line.
02:05As misfiring Tel Oasgar, then Oliver Antman drop to the bench.
02:09Joao Moutinho, a true icon of Portuguese football, close to a thousand games today.
02:21Our officials tonight hail from the Netherlands, headed up by Allard Lindtout.
02:27His coachman Paul van Berkel is the video assistant referee for this one.
02:42After a big win in the Portuguese Cup, Braga manager Carlos Vicenzo switching a couple of his starting eleven as well.
02:47Regular goalkeeper Lukas Hornacek is back between the sticks in place of Ala Bellarouc.
02:52While the impressive bright Arjen Beard regains his place in central defence behind a midfield containing Joao Moutinho.
02:58Top scorer Rodrigo Salazar has ten goals this season and makes his 100th appearance for Braga.
03:04Former Barcelona talent Paul Victor is among the visiting substitutes today.
03:09Denírol and Carlos Vicenzo, two of the youngest managers in this competition at 36 and 42 years old respectively.
03:19The German on the hunts for a first European win since taking charge.
03:23The Spaniard in his first managerial position.
03:27The weather in Glasgow this past week has been pretty miserable.
03:32Heavy rainfall all day making for a slick and a damp pitch.
03:36But mercifully the deluge abating in the past hour or so making for a much more pleasant experience for all of us here tonight.
03:48There will be Rangers and Nico Raskan to get us off on motoring in Govan.
03:57Just 50 days have passed since the departure of Russell Martin from the dugouts.
04:03Now Kevin Fairwell and Patrick Stewart have followed the manager they appointed through the exit doors.
04:10Rangers pressing the reset button yet again with a third permanent manager and a fifth in total in the space of only a year.
04:20What can be salvaged from this season? What can anyone do with the hands he's been dealt?
04:25And just how big is the January transfer window which looms ahead of Rangers in just over a month's time.
04:32Change sweeping through this club on and off the field.
04:36On it tonight Ali, Rangers need a big performance.
04:40Yeah, good evening everyone, they certainly do Jamie, they're a bit disappointing in Europe.
04:44The one thing you would say, to be fair to the manager, he's picked up a few wins domestically.
04:50Albeit, you could argue that the level of performance hasn't been great, but that isn't the most important thing I believe.
04:56I believe he has to get results, he's been doing that.
04:58This is clearly a bigger test for them, we saw them against Celtic, this is a good team they're up against.
05:03But I think the supporters, and indeed you and I, will be looking for a good level of performance this evening.
05:08Denny Gould getting Rangers to four wins on the spin in the Scottish Premiership,
05:13sitting fifth at the table at the moment, albeit with those above them enjoying a game or two in hand.
05:19Or two in hand.
05:26Porter.
05:29Lagerbielka shells it off the pitch, wants him Celtic as a standout performer at Celtic Park a couple of months ago.
05:41Already seeing signs, Ali, that Danny Gould is going to be an influential figure.
05:45We spoke pre-match about the role he might have played in the chains that's happened off the pitch.
05:50Do you think he's going to be given the keys to the transfer, Kitty, January?
05:54Yes, I do.
05:55Listen, it's very early days, but only listening to the man, I haven't met the man.
06:00I think he sounds impressive, I certainly think the fans have taken to him.
06:04There's definitely been a change.
06:06Nassava just showing some interest there.
06:09No flag, I want to check claims.
06:11And you probably heard me there, Jamie, I think, to be brutally honest with you,
06:17I don't think the playing squad is good enough.
06:20So I think there has to be changes, but that takes time and it's easier said than done
06:23because you've got to get people going the other way too.
06:26And I just hope he is given time and I hope he is given, you know, the financial capabilities to make changes.
06:33I think he sounds impressive, I really do, mate.
06:41Braga, meanwhile, have turned a bit of a corner since that 2-0 win at Celtic Park across the city,
06:46start of October, Carlos Vicenzo was under massive pressure,
06:49heading into what was a seminal run of fixtures for him, first job as number one,
06:55but since then they've won six, drawn once and lost twice.
07:00They've built themselves up to fifth in the Portuguese top flights.
07:04They don't have a look, usual suspects are still up there, aren't they?
07:10Every season there's your Porto, Sporting, Benfica.
07:15But I've got one of these sides, Jamie, that, you know, haven't done themselves any harm at all
07:20in some of the European performances, plus, in fact, I don't know if you've been there, it's a beautiful exterior.
07:28Zalazar on his 100th appearance, unleashing Victor Gomez,
07:32he's got three goals for this season, having not scored at all for Braga prior to that.
07:37Big night for Max Ahrens earlier, of course, a glimpse of him making that block,
07:43big selection decision from Danny Hoyle to bring him in ahead of Jadon Magoma tonight.
07:47Yeah.
07:52We were talking beforehand, we weren't really sure, we obviously knew the personnel,
07:55but it certainly looks at 4-3-3, I was interested to see where Kusama was going to play,
07:59Jamie, certainly looks at the right-hand side, Danilo coming off her left,
08:02and the big fella through the middle, Chermite.
08:04I suppose with this, this personnel that Danny Hoyle has selected,
08:09does give him the flexibility to move to a 3, to bring Tabernio back to right-centre half,
08:14and to use perhaps Ahrens and even Kusama has been deployed as a wing-back once this season.
08:19He has.
08:28Chermite wins the flick.
08:34I'm not sure if Luz Chermite was going to be fit for this match,
08:44with about a little knock which looked like it was going to keep him out,
08:47all the whispers from Ibrox through the week were that he was not expected to play,
08:51but the marquee summer edition has been past fit to start this evening.
08:57Huge night for him as it is for so many of these Rangers players,
09:01many of them brought here at significant expense,
09:04none more so than Yusuf Chermite so far, not delivering the goods.
09:09Here's Ghysama, one of the bright sparks of that summer recruitment,
09:14he loses it, handballs it, Braga can't do much with him.
09:18Referee Thoma gave him the free kick there, didn't he?
09:20We did the correct thing, look. Carry on.
09:23Looks like a flat three there with Barne Raskan sitting in the middle,
09:31and Dietermann just kind of maybe one forwards,
09:34is he playing in a three?
09:36At this moment in time, that looks of shape.
09:53Giamite out-muscling little Joao Moutinho in the middle,
09:58and Diamande bringing Rangers forward.
10:04Manny Fernandes, all 6'6", scored against Livingston on the weekends,
10:09a big threat asking when Rangers get the chance to load up that box.
10:13Scott Fry, their recently appointed set-piece coach,
10:16working hard with the likes of Nasser Giga on the ball now.
10:20Manny Fernandes, two big specimens.
10:24I don't even know how important that is, part of the game is.
10:27Nowadays, Jamie, shot again last night,
10:30I was looking down at the Emirates.
10:32Arsenal, probably one of the best in Europa, with the set plays.
10:39Very important part of the game now.
10:43Set-piece coaches, set-piece coaches now, Jamie.
10:46What's happening next, what's coming next, do you think?
10:50Chefs for the commentary team would be nice.
10:52Chefs for the commentary team would be nice.
10:58Here's Tavernier, who needs just one more goal to go level with Ali McCoyst.
11:03Yeah.
11:04Rangers European goal-scoring hall of fame.
11:06Still need another eight to track down Alfredo Morelos.
11:09He was so pivotal to so many of those famous European knights here.
11:14And on to the Europa League final.
11:16It's the seasons which bookended it.
11:18What Rangers would give for more of that intensity,
11:21more of that passion and fervor, more of those results.
11:25Yeah, some fantastic, fantastic knights.
11:28Chirviti, Osama working the space.
11:34Make close control.
11:40Tavernier.
11:41Aarons.
11:43Rangers have got the advantage here.
11:57Diomondi taken out late.
11:59Lovely ball from Barron, that Jamie.
12:01Raskin has made an inviting run ahead of him.
12:02Kassama clicks.
12:03By Siku Niakate, the Malian international.
12:04Rangers will have a chance to threat with the first real dangerous set-piece position.
12:17He cuts inside, doesn't he? There's the arm coming across.
12:22Yep, free kick for me.
12:24Free kick for me.
12:26guess so on the GPA?
12:28어 ≫وا axial questions.
12:29Because it's going to be...
12:30One 0.
12:30One 0.
12:31One zero, two, three, four.
12:32Two, three, four.
12:33One zero, three, four.
12:34One, three.
12:35One number two, three, one, three.
12:36Two, three, two, five.
12:37One, three, two, three, four, three.
12:39One, three, four, three, four, three.
12:47Balicek back and go after Alibela Ruch Braga's cupkeeper had the gloves
12:53for their victory on the weekend. Only one man standing over the set piece for Rangers.
13:04Enticing opportunity for the home team to pounce.
13:07Tavernier's ball, Moutinho got up, there's a foul in any case in the box.
13:17What a wasted opportunity, that, really.
13:27I'm not sure there was an awful lot of that.
13:34Huge week for Rangers on and off the pitch,
13:36not just a small matter of getting off the mark in Europe this season,
13:40but also the much-publicized, much-anticipated departures
13:45of Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart from very senior positions.
13:50Five weeks ago, remember, these guys were given a public backing of
13:54Andrew Cavanaugh, the 49ers' ownership.
13:56They were allowed to appoint Denival, they oversaw much of the summer recruitment.
14:02Why, Ali, do you think now is the time that their positions were deemed untenable?
14:07Do you know why, Jamie? I just think there was too much water under the bridge, you know?
14:12And you can say what you like about fan power, but I think that was a big thing.
14:17I really do think it was a big thing, Jamie.
14:19I mean, I'm not saying for a minute that the owners won't make big decisions
14:24and make them off their own bat, but when I say to you it was too much water,
14:29I just think for a lot of the supporters there was no way back.
14:33To a certain degree it was the same with the previous manager, wasn't it?
14:36Aaron's just left the ball behind.
14:41Do you worry, Ali, about the damage that's been done to the Rangers financially
14:48and in terms of who they are in the league, where they could be given Celtic struggles
14:52with the recruitment they've made?
14:54Yeah, it's obviously a concern.
14:56Clearly I'm not privy to the financial situation, Jamie, so I'm kind of guessing like everybody else,
15:01but it would be a concern because Rangers have spent a lot of money.
15:06They've spent a lot of money.
15:08So you cannot say that they haven't been given the resources and the financial backing.
15:13The problem is I don't think the money's been well spent, that's the problem.
15:19I mentioned to Emma, clearly I hope it was the opposite case,
15:23but I don't see improvement really in any area of the team, sadly.
15:28No, it's hard to make a case for any of the signings improving the players they replaced.
15:35Jamie Osama probably the potential exception, although Cerny did such a good job here last season
15:41that even that's a tough case to argue.
15:43I think Cerny must get the best part of 16, 17, 18 goals, you know,
15:47and I agree with you and that's what I said to Emma earlier on,
15:50I think Osama's probably been the pick of the signings, but I'm not sure he's better than Cerny.
15:53I think Abraga kept a good hand a little bit too early.
15:59Yeah, Riccardo Harte the captain who didn't quite time his run well there,
16:05but he is a man in form, four goals in his past five, three and two,
16:10scored the opener past the bamboozled Kasper Schmeichel across the city here in October.
16:15here in October.
16:29Taken in by Fran Navarro.
16:31Salazar, Jean-Baptiste Corby.
16:39Horta, Salazar, Riccardo Horta, good save from Jack Butlins.
16:45Reaction stop from Rangers number one.
16:48I think Rascan drops his man, I'll tell you what it is, it's a brilliant save, I think it's better than a good save.
16:53I really do, he goes through his legs, that is a good save, I'm not sure.
16:57Possibly, possibly Navarro's an offside, well not possibly, definitely.
17:02But, if it goes in it's a goal, that's a top class save, Jamie it really is,
17:07because he sees it late through the legs of a centre-back.
17:11First corner of the night, coming the way of the visitors.
17:22That's the skipper who stands over it.
17:24Horta to the near post, Asghar, side foot's clear.
17:28Kasama does concede the foul.
17:33Just for a moment there, it looked like Anard Lintou wasn't going to put his whistle in his mouth.
17:42I think he was winning that race there, Kasama against Martínez.
17:47Probably just leaned into him though.
17:51Talking about how poor some of the recruitment has been, Ali, where do you think the most urgent area of the squad is pressing?
18:03Yeah.
18:04Well, I still think probably the strongest area would be the middle of the park, Diamande and Basca and Barron.
18:11I'm not saying they couldn't do with help, but I still think that's probably the strongest area.
18:14I'm concerned with centre-back positions, to be honest with you.
18:17You know, the goalkeeper is sure there makes good saves.
18:21Centre-back position, no John Suter.
18:23The two lads, Fernandes and Giga, I still think I've got a little bit to prove.
18:28And clearly, I don't think Regal scored enough goals.
18:32Can obviously say that or not.
18:37And the worrying thing is that's not going to change overnight.
18:44I don't want to picture your picture here, I've got to say.
18:47Regal again on the prowl, Horta, Muttland again with a fabulous stop.
18:56Twice the Braga captain has been denied by Rangers number one.
19:01That was brilliant, what a save again, makes himself so big.
19:04He could have been offside, I'm not sure, he didn't know that.
19:07Oh, there's Jumiti foul there by Raga Bielka, it's gone against him.
19:12And you can hear what Ibrox makes of that first cog on the jersey,
19:17the judge to be from the Rangers number nine.
19:19It's an interesting one.
19:21There you are, I'm not giving a free-kick there.
19:23I'll tell you right now, I'm not giving a free-kick.
19:25He's very, very fortunate.
19:28And his assistant and the referee both got it wrong, that ain't no free-kick.
19:33That's a brilliant pass.
19:36Ahrens probably coming out as Horta's getting in, so he probably was onside.
19:42Big save.
19:43Tries to lift it over him, but that's a big save, Jumiti really is.
19:47I thought initially he might have been offside, but Ahrens comes out late.
19:51That's the problem.
19:53Just seeing some glimpses of Braga's class the past couple of minutes.
20:11The team that very much play a Pep Guardiola style,
20:15and they have set a trap for Rangers and caught them napping.
20:18Horta pulling it through, Martinez gives chase,
20:21and Jiga has to concede the corner.
20:23But the offside flag is up against Gabriel Martinez.
20:27It's not good from Tavernier, dallying on the ball, watch that,
20:31you can't get away with that.
20:32I'll tell you right now, you can't get away with that.
20:34And he is offside, but the only reason he's offside is
20:37because he didn't receive the ball quicker,
20:38he should have received the ball quicker.
20:40It's not a great ball at all, I think it was Navarro,
20:42should have given it earlier.
20:47They had the dreaded white handkerchiefs out for Carlos Vicenzo,
20:51and the Corre de Estadio Municipal where Braga hosts their matches.
20:55Very famous venue, as Ali was saying, white handkerchiefs.
20:58Not the sight you want to see if you're a manager of an Iberian football club.
21:02Paraphrasing it means, off your pot, please.
21:05It certainly does.
21:07But he's recovered from that rocky start.
21:09They really weren't having him for a while, a lot of the fan base,
21:12but he's recovered, he's got them playing his style,
21:16and that has brought about a decent upturn in results.
21:19And as we discussed pre-match, that win at Celtic was a spring war fight,
21:24it was a spring war for them to build some momentum.
21:27Kassama, dancing away from Niakate,
21:30away from Martinez as well,
21:32who had a little nibble at the Rangers forwards.
21:34I think he's fouled, Jamie, I really do.
21:36I think Kassama's fouled, and so does he.
21:39I think he leans into him, I get him leaning into him,
21:43but I just think he overdid it and he gives away a free kick.
21:45But clearly that man there in front of us didn't agree with me.
21:48He doesn't agree with me.
21:49He doesn't agree with me.
21:50He doesn't agree with me.
21:56He doesn't agree with me.
21:57I think there's some of the fans in the club to be able to move on.
21:58And the team, I think the team, I think the team of Chirmit,
22:00he's the team and the team, Jasmussen,
22:02the team, Jasmussen, or the team,
22:04and the team, Jasmussen,
22:05and the team, Jasmussen,
22:06Funtling work from Chirmiti but can't hold on to it, and Braga surging forward through Zalazar.
22:16João Moutinho for 150 caps for Portugal, level number eight for Braga tonight.
22:26Gomes can't play with Zalazar, and Rangers look to spring on the counter,
22:31decent touch from Chirmiti but Gossama couldn't get on to it.
23:01How do you assess what Rangers are trying to do out of possession here at Alley?
23:07I don't mind it.
23:08Who want to play?
23:09Yeah.
23:13I don't mind it, Jamie.
23:15Yeah, I'm looking at Diamande and I'm looking at Barron, they're going to press,
23:18they're going to press high, which is fine.
23:21But you know the rules, if one goes, everybody else has to go in accordance and follow.
23:26It looks like Diamande certainly playing a little bit further forward than Barron and Raskan, which is fine.
23:33Here he goes.
23:35He's looking to build out from the back here, Ahrens.
24:03He's got Barron inside.
24:07That's a ball.
24:09Reflection takes it into Raskan, but he couldn't thread it through for the onrushing Chirmiti.
24:15Despite perceptions, Rangers haven't conceded that many league goals this season.
24:32It's the eleven and a dozen Premiership matches, it's been at the other end that they have struggled.
24:37Seventh for goals scored in the Scottish Premiership, albeit a couple of the teams above them have played a match,
24:43in some cases two matches more than them, but still not what you would expect any Rangers team,
24:48either of the Glasgow teams, to be a third of the way through the season.
24:52No, that's...
24:56If it's not unacceptable, it's certainly an incredible statistic, I think.
25:01Tavernier gives it straight to Moutinho.
25:09Porter, where Raskan uses his body well.
25:13Gossama, that is a run at Niakate.
25:16That's a foul.
25:18He stands his ground near Niakate, doesn't he? It's a free kick, obstructs him.
25:26The captain not happy with it.
25:30You see him come across here, there's a blatant obstruction.
25:35He looks like Rangers' best outlet tonight, so far.
25:37Yeah, he does.
25:39Not for the first time this season.
25:48He was up for press a week or two ago.
25:50He described Denny Gossama as being like a father to him from their time together down in England at Sheffield Wednesday.
25:55Yeah, Sheffield.
25:57It's quite a happy coincidence from a Rangers point of view that they are reunited.
26:02JD Gossama looks to be playing with confidence under the new manager.
26:09Rangers without probably their first-choice centre-back pairing,
26:12and Suter and Cornelius both of whom picked up injuries during the international break.
26:17Fernandes and Giga at the back tonight.
26:20Tavernier into Gossama.
26:22Facing up Gabriel Martinez again.
26:24For Arsenalistas jerseys around him.
26:27And he's crowded out in the end.
26:33Tavernier, a good ball-winning from Rasgaff.
26:38Baric spreads it to Ahrens.
26:40Danilo, haven't seen much of him tonight.
26:42Finds his way through to Ahrens again.
26:45There's nothing doing for Rangers once they get to the edge of the box.
26:48No, it just wouldn't break there with the box.
26:49Max Alans has stayed down, the right-hand side of your picture.
26:54You mentioned, Jamie, the right-hand side, Gossama looks probably the best option.
26:59I think that's a fact.
27:01I think looking at Danilo on the left-hand side, clearly a completely different player to Gossama.
27:07You'd have to think Max Alans would have to go up and give him a hand, get outside him, give him that extra bit of width.
27:13He's catching, it's a reasonable tackle.
27:19From Lagrebielke.
27:22Hornacek, he's throwing that some 55 metres down the park for Salazar to get on to.
27:38He's actually very clever from the goalkeeper, because he saw who was injured.
27:44He just exploded the empty position.
27:47I did notice, I had a wee smile on my face, you know, when the teams lined up there.
27:56Jamie certainly looked as if one or two of the Braga players weren't too enamoured with the weather.
28:02Perish the thought.
28:09Yeah, there's not too many of them in short sleeves tonight, to do it that way.
28:18Butler picks out more Diomondi.
28:21Heel snapped up by João Moutinho.
28:24He's been done for handball, Braga go quickly through Horta.
28:27And Salazar rasps the shot against Fernandes.
28:32Yeah, it's a good hop.
28:34Horta's a clever player, Jamie can tell, doesn't hang about.
28:37Just thinks very, very quickly, takes a quick three-kick.
28:40Wants to exploit the time and the space.
28:44It's Alazar.
28:45Barron and Max Ahrens for company.
28:47Another Braga throw-in.
28:49It's been such a big player for them this season, Rodrigo Salazar.
28:51Ten goals in all competitions.
28:52This is a century-making appearance tonight.
28:54It's been such a big player for them this season, Rodrigo Salazar.
28:56Ten goals in all competitions.
28:57This is a century-making appearance tonight.
28:58Horta.
28:59Horta.
29:00Salazar.
29:01Gets it back from João Moutinho.
29:02It's been such a big player for them this season.
29:03Horta.
29:04Horta.
29:05Horta.

29:47Horta.
29:48Horta.
29:49Horta.
29:50Horta.
29:51Horta.
29:52Horta.
29:53Horta twice in a couple of minutes. Yeah both excellent saves, Jamie the second one makes
29:58himself big as you know spreads himself but the first one I thought was absolutely top class,
30:02through the defenders centre-backs legs, tees it late, big hand, big right hand to it.
30:15Tabernier, Cermiti just couldn't find the run of Niko Raskar.
30:19It's a little bit unlucky there Cermiti, you saw it, you just try to flick it round the corner,
30:26see that's where there's no width in the left, in a forward area.
30:31Is that because Danilo's instinct is to come inside? Yes, absolutely, and so it should be,
30:35because it's his natural position, that's why it's important for Orange to give them a width there.
30:43Tabernier trying to find Danilo towards the back, Arjen B and Gorby
30:47step in to stop that attack.
31:01It's better from Danilo.
31:06Just a little bit scrappy isn't it, there's no real flow to the game.
31:09Approaching the half-hour mark, what will Danilo's main takeaways be from this opening?
31:21I think the reason we're happy, I think the, you know, the closure's been good,
31:25they've been tidying up possession.
31:29Notwithstanding the goalkeeper making a couple of good saves, that would be a little bit of a concern, clearly.
31:33Kassama, bursting into the box, across the face, Chimiti will keep this alive.
31:44Trying to thunder his way right through Neokate, linking with Tabernier.
31:49It's excellent, really excellent play on the left-hand side, wasn't it?
31:52Jilt of excitement around Ibrox for the first time in a while, Raskar, Chimiti chasing it down,
31:58but he won't keep it in.
31:59That's a difficult ball, difficult ball that, to keep in the pitch.
32:06Now I'm looking at Chimiti now, Jamie, can he break his neck in that box?
32:12He goes late, he goes late, I know he's thinking about maybe holding his position, maybe for a cutback.
32:18It's one of these things, you go the other way, try and break your neck to get to that back force,
32:23you might get yourself a tap-in.
32:27Is that just a striker low in confidence, maybe his instincts aren't as sharp?
32:30Listen, it's not a criticism, believe me, it's not, because sometimes he thinks he's got to hold the position
32:36and stay in the 18-yard line for a cutback. I think just he took the wrong option now, but
32:42as a centre-baller, Jamie, sometimes you've got to go one or the other and it's just a gamble.
32:53It's been linked with both Manchester clubs over the past couple of seasons.
33:00A few of these Braga players attracting some interest from wealthier leagues.
33:08Right, Arjen B, another on the other side of the back three who's been
33:12counted as a target for West Ham and a few Bundesliga clubs in recent months.
33:17Came through the youth system at Bayern Munich, of course.
33:23I don't know if you saw him, Lennart Carroll, the 17-year-old.
33:37They get younger every year, don't they?
33:38Oh, no.
33:53All the highlights being wrapped up for you on TNT Sports 1 this evening.
33:57Europa League and Conference League from 10.30pm.
34:00Of course, the Premier League returns with us on the weekend Sunday at 11am, TNT Sports 1.
34:07Crystal Palace take on Ruben Averines, Manchester United.
34:12The second round of the FA Cup, meanwhile, will continue the following weekend,
34:155th the 8th of December, every game live as Rangers.
34:20Under pressure again, Manny Fernandes conceding the corner.
34:24It's a little bit too easy.
34:27Tavenier's got to get tighter.
34:29No real attempt to stop the cross at all, unfortunately.
34:43Lager taking short.
34:46Martinez, Horta on the angle, it's a teasing delivery and Lager Bielka knocks it over the top.
34:53I think that's a better chance than we first thought, you know.
34:57I can't believe Rangers too slow to get two out.
35:00But you've got to get somebody out quicker than that.
35:01You must get somebody out quicker than that.
35:03Probably just on, well, he's offside, Mighiatti, but...
35:09Thankfully, just a little bit too high for his centre-back partner.
35:13Rangers yet to register her shots.
35:26Lager with four.
35:38It's a slight tug from the genuine Diamande.
35:43Here's Tavenier, which is looking to fashion some kind of an opportunity here.
35:56To Jumonde.
35:58Brasca.
36:01Fernandes for Ahrens, Victor Gomez quickly upon him.
36:05Brasca want to showcase himself ahead of the Royal Cup next year.
36:16He seems to be potentially a big player for Belgium.
36:19He needs to continue to impress his case.
36:24Coming into the last year of his contract here at Ibrox as well, it's not a great pass from Jiga.
36:29He's just lacking a wee bit of fluency here.
36:41Yeah, yeah.
36:42I mean, as I mentioned earlier, Jamin Weisselin been tidy enough, but they've not been a threat.
36:50You mentioned the lack of goals.
36:52There's nothing we've seen in the open half-hour that indicates that it's going to be a dramatic change, sadly.
36:58There's nothing we've seen.
37:09It's there, it's all because there's nothing I'm seeing in the open half-hour that's given here from Jiga in periods.
37:09Tiggo not taking any risks with that one.
37:14Last touch is off Sigourney Akate.
37:16Scrappy opening, third to this match.
37:46Putting it on the diagonal, clever ball into Diamante, he's got Danilo with him, Danilo for Rangers, Hornacek, after a flash-in, holds on to it.
37:58Best move of the game, from Rangers' point of view, certainly, Tavernier does well, it's a good ball, I think it maybe comes off a defender, that Jamie, he just takes his thing out of it, I might be wrong, but I'm looking at the way he's shaped up Danilo there, he looked as though he was going for the far corner, the far post,
38:15to bring it back in, might just have come off the defender, feeling that was a good chance anyway.
38:20Lovely move, this is a great ball, good turn, lovely touch, pull it back from the defender.
38:30Does he get the touch?
38:36No he does not, he does not, and it's a comfortable save for the goalkeeper, that's the angle that tells us.
38:44I'm not sure whether he changes his mind and wants to whip it back across himself, but that's a big chance, he's at the Rangers' best.
38:50Tavernier hangs it up towards the giant Fernandes, all he can do is nod it behind for a goal kick.
39:04Suppose, Ali, that's a strong illustration of what you were talking about, there isn't necessarily a, I don't want to say a natural goal scorer, but there isn't a guy you can hang your hat on in this Rangers squad to tuck away chances like that.
39:15No, I think that's the case, sadly.
39:20Lovely ball from the goalkeeper, lovely ball from Buttman.
39:34into Danilo.
39:38Raskan on the move.
39:41Left backs the ball, Jamie, look at the left backs.
39:43Barron is free, yep.
39:45Space has now been closed down, I think to Gomez stepping up.
39:48Got to get out there quick here.
39:50Too many touches.
39:52Danilo, nice touch.
39:55Barron, Jameeti ahead of him, Danilo continues his run.
39:58Very well, Barron.
39:59Barron sees the space that's opened up for Gassama.
40:03Gassama burning to the byline, Hornacek beats clear, and Tavernier sends it into the Copeland stand.
40:10Lovely switch of play, Gassama.
40:14Down the outside again.
40:15Smashes it across the face.
40:20That's a really difficult one coming back at pace.
40:25All you can do is attempt to keep that down, which you couldn't do, sadly.
40:30But Rangers have been bright for the last five, ten minutes or so.
40:38With that there's no doubt.
40:41Rangers pressing Braga again and picking up the crumbs here.
40:45Ahrens.
40:47Reflects for Diamande, Jameeti's shot was blocked.
40:51Barron, clever ball, Gassama touches it down.
40:55Rangers scream for a penalty.
40:57Jameeti, Gassama and Diamande both still down in the box.
41:02Can't imagine the might of a real look at that, Jameet.
41:05Tavernier hangs it up.
41:07Danilo knocks it in, Chiameti sliding.
41:10There's the ball.
41:12Hornacek commando crawling over the top of Lager Bielka.
41:17Rangers shouting for a handball here.
41:19Not there for me.
41:26It's all a little bit messy, that's the one.
41:29Do you know something?
41:30He slips and I think he fouls him, you know.
41:33I think he definitely slips and there's the foul.
41:37Yeah, it's a shove.
41:38I definitely think he loses his balance to the defender.
41:45And he shoves Gassama.
41:49Sadly it looks like I'm the only one to think so.
41:54That's Gabri Martinez on Jiri Gassama.
41:56He has looked menacing for Rangers.
42:01No word yet on whether VAR is having a formal look at this.
42:07He's probably gone a little bit late now, but I don't know what you think yourself.
42:10I think he loses his oddly ball, that.
42:12I think he loses his footing, the defender.
42:15And inadvertently pushes Gassama.
42:18Check is complete.
42:19No need to bring referee Lindhout to the monitor.
42:24No Rangers penalty.
42:28That'll be a concern for Denny Gull.
42:29More concerning right now will be the fact that Gassama is still down.
42:33He's been his key prong of the attacking three.
42:42He's not blessed with certainly options that are delivering big numbers in terms of goals and assists on the bench.
42:48On the Baratmantello Asgard dropping out of the team tonight.
42:52Neither one has impressed despite the cash and the outlay that Rangers made to bring them to Scotland.
42:59Yeah.
43:02Gassama is going to soldier on for now.
43:04Gassama is getting forward into that kind of ten position.
43:05He's getting himself involved which is good.
43:06Gassama on the right hand side looks good.
43:07He's getting forward into that kind of ten position.
43:08He's getting himself involved which is good.
43:09Gassama on the right hand side looks as though he's getting a little bit of joy.
43:13Against Martínez here so...
43:14Gassama on the right hand side looks as though he's getting a little bit of joy.
43:18Against Martínez here so...
43:19From that point of view it has been a little bit better than the last ten minutes or so.
43:20Gassama on the right hand side looks as though he's getting a little bit of joy.
43:21Gassama on the right hand side looks as though he's getting a little bit of joy against Martínez here so...
43:42From that point of view it has been a little bit better than the last ten minutes or so.
43:48Jadie Gassama is back with us, Rangers back up to 11.
43:55Raska stabs it forwards, but has also stabbed a Braga player with one of his boots.
44:12He just catches him, doesn't he, studs?
44:15Not 100% sure it warms that reaction, but certainly caught him probably.
44:2139 years of age, he's been a great player.
44:24What a career he's had.
44:26He's been a terrific player, wonderful.
44:29Won this competition all the way back in 2011,
44:32actually played against Braga in the final for Porto.
44:38Remarkable career, and all the more so that he is still playing at this level
44:42a year out from turning 40.
44:45It's Alizar, has his pocket picked by Conor Barron.
44:49The Raska at least the Rangers moving again, but he has lost possession.
44:54Diomondi and Aaron stepping in, and Aaron will win the free kick, and the card is coming out.
45:03First yellow of the night for Fran Navarro, clumsy challenge on Max Aaron.
45:12The whole passage was clumsy, wasn't it?
45:21He's not enough for a lot, he stays on the ground, it's a free kick, really doesn't follow through at all.
45:30He's not enough for a lot.
45:31He's not enough for a lot, he stays on the ground, it's a free kick, really doesn't follow through at all.
45:39Oh, Chomiti, coming there ahead of Lager Bielke, Gisama wins it back for Rangers.
45:44Oh, Jomiti coming there ahead of Lager-Bielka,
46:03Gisama wins it back for Rangers.
46:07That draws a ripple of applause.
46:10A bit of excitement from the Imbrox supporters,
46:13and then Barron has his feet taken away.
46:19Rangers not messing around here either.
46:21Tavernier into Jomiti, Barron keeps it alive.
46:25Diomaldi, goal now in the dying minutes of this half,
46:29would be such a boost for Rangers.
46:32Gisama is being wrestled down beneath us.
46:36And Gabi Martinez walking a fine line.
46:39Oh, he is. I love the way the hands are out, you know, as if...
46:47Comes across to me, there's the first foul, there's the second one.
46:51Some big targets in here for Rangers.
47:05There are.
47:06Diomaldi, Cermiti, Fernandes, Giga all up there.
47:08Not something we might have said about Rangers in the early part of the season,
47:11but they've got some height in this team.
47:14Yeah, and Rasca can definitely get across the face of a defender or two.
47:19Tavernier takes, Rasca was stooping for it.
47:22Gisama wins the second ball.
47:24And Rangers have their first corner of the evening.
47:42Final 90 seconds of normal time, the end of this first half.
47:46The kind of Rangers make the breakthrough here.
48:02Tavernier floats it out.
48:04Johnnacek punches.
48:06Danilo under pressure, gets it back to Barron, who swerves in.
48:10Well, taken by Juriti.
48:12They just couldn't control and finish.
48:16I'm not sure he's got any control, Gini.
48:19I might be wrong.
48:20It's a brilliant ball from Barron.
48:22He's onside.
48:23I don't know why I'm controlling that, I'm just swinging a leg at that.
48:26Swinging a right foot or a left foot.
48:28You don't get time like that.
48:30Another corner for Rangers.
48:35Tavernier takes, it's across the base.
48:38Barron wanted it left for him.
48:40Danilo had other ideas.
48:42Nah, it's not on, nah.
48:44Not on.
48:46It's Conor Barron's all day, that.
48:48And Danilo can see him.
48:50It's almost impossible to strike that, the way he's coming away from goal.
48:53There you are.
48:54I mean, that's nearly impossible.
48:55It's not as if you can't see Conor Barron.
48:57I would imagine Conor Barron would be shouting at him.
48:59Should have left that one.
49:02If he wasn't shouting before, he was shouting afterwards.
49:04Yeah.
49:05A look of anguish on the midfielder's face.
49:12Certainly a more encouraging spell at the end of the first half of Rangers than at the start.
49:18There is a VAR check ongoing here.
49:24And Allard Lindhout is going to the screen to assess a possible penalty to Rangers.
49:36Right at the end of the first half, in stoppage time, and it's that outstretched right arm of Fran Navarro.
49:43That definitely hits his arm, but I don't know, I'm old school, I think it's harsh, I do.
49:52It comes over the top of a defender, but you know something that definitely hits his arm.
49:56And nowadays, there's every chance he'll give it, you know.
50:09Every chance he'll give it.
50:11Every chance he'll give it.
50:12Here comes the decision.
50:13Penalty Rangers.
50:14Ibrox, with something to cling to, in the dying members of this first half.
50:32And this is why.
50:37That definitely hits his arm, Navarro's no doubt, you will see it.
50:41Just comes over his mate's head, he's not even looking at the ball, Navarro.
50:44He probably doesn't even know it hits his arm.
50:48And of course it will be James Tavernier, Rangers captain.
50:56The architects of so many monumental European evenings here and on the continent.
51:0315 Europa League goals in 13 appearances.
51:0820 goals in European football.
51:11No British defender has scored more than the Rangers skipper.
51:26Four goals and four assists this season.
51:31He has scored three of the four penalties he has lined up.
51:40A seismic European moment for James Tavernier.
51:47Tavernier delivers.
51:53The captain points the way.
51:58And as half-time beckons, Rangers lead in the Europa League.
52:05Emphatic.
52:06Brilliant penalty.
52:07Well executed.
52:08Did his usual run-up.
52:09They feel aggrieved.
52:10The best way I put it, Jamie, would be, I'm happy Rangers got it, but I wouldn't have been disappointed had it gone against me.
52:22Goalie goes the wrong way.
52:24Right into the net.
52:26It's a familiar sight, that raised left arm with James Tavernier.
52:35The iconic celebration.
52:37Another European goal.
52:39As I say, it definitely hits his arm.
52:49Please Rangers got it.
52:50Best way to put it, it's a boy given against me, but well stuck away from Tavernier.
52:55And you know something, it probably came during Rangers' best period, Jamie.
52:58They'd have been excellent in the last 10-15 minutes.
53:01If not excellent, it certainly created the better chances.
53:04Sorry to bring this up, Ali, but 21 European goals.
53:07Level with one Alistair McCoyst, James Tavernier.
53:10Well done.
53:11I reckon more of his might have been penalties than yours.
53:13Not so sure.
53:14Yeah.
53:15But well played, two up, congratulations.
53:17It's an amazing, amazing record for somebody in his position.
53:22And they've not all been penalties, eh?
53:25And a lot of them had very, very important goals as well, including that one.
53:30Hello, Cartier for this challenge from Diomondi on Gorby.
53:34Yeah.
53:39There were two minutes of stoppage time,
53:41two minutes added, but of course that's going to be extended because of the VAR check
53:45and the time it took to set up that penalty.
53:50So Braga with one last opportunity to square things up immediately.
53:55Just a couple of hundred fans who've made a long trip to Glasgow.
54:00Depths of Scottish winter.
54:02That's a trek, that, isn't it?
54:06This is the man they want over it, Rodrigo Salazar.
54:11Leading marksman for them, Horta also the captain.
54:14The club's all-time top goalscorer.
54:18Salazar takes, cannons off the wall.
54:21Rangers deal with the first wave.
54:23And Arjen B puts too much on it.
54:26And that will see Rangers to halftime.
54:31Rangers leading in Europe.
54:34Is this tonight?
54:35The Europa League rots.
54:37Is stopped.
54:39Unsurprisingly, the captains had a big say in that first 45.
54:44James Tavernier with his 21st European goal for Rangers.
54:49Now second only to Alfredo Morelos.
54:53His spot kick on the stroke of half-time separates the teams here in Glasgow.
54:57At the Interbellion Ibrox Stadium.
55:00It is Rangers 1.
55:01It is Rangers 1.
55:02You
