00:12The details of the settlement were revealed in court filings made public on Wednesday.
00:16The proposed deal is being put to a Los Angeles judge for approval.
00:20Two former students of Franco's acting class led the lawsuit back in October 2020.
00:24While the Me Too movement has shed light on all sorts of misbehavior in Hollywood and beyond,
00:29this was a rare instance where alleged sexual exploitation became a putative class action.
00:34The complaint alleged that those who were taught by Franco at Studio 4 Film School in New York and Los Angeles were the victims of fraud.
00:41The money is being split among the two students who led the suit, other students who took the class, and the lawyers.
00:46The settlement will require the students to release fraud claims against the star actor.
00:50Those who are members of the class would have a couple months to opt out.
00:53Unclaimed money would go as a contribution to the National Women's Law Center.
00:56As part of the settlement, the parties have also agreed to a statement that reads, in part,
01:01While defendants continue to deny the allegations in the complaint,
01:04they acknowledge that the plaintiffs have raised important issues,
01:07and all parties strongly believe that now is a critical time to focus on addressing the mistreatment of women in Hollywood.
