00:00As anticipation builds for the release of Blade Runner 2049, we're taking a look back at the
00:11original movie and how the cast felt at the time about Ridley Scott's cult classic.
00:15Actor M. Emmett Walsh, aka Captain Harry Bryant in Blade Runner, says he didn't really understand
00:21the film when he first saw it, and neither did the rest of the cast and crew. He says they just
00:25sat there in confused silence. The now 82-year-old actor told The Hollywood Reporter of the initial
00:31cast and crew screening,
00:32"...we all sat there and it ended, and nothing," Walsh said, laughing hysterically.
00:37"...we didn't know what to say or to think or do. We didn't know what in the hell we had done.
00:42The only one who seemed to get it was Ridley." Walsh played the hard-nosed LAPD captain who drags
00:48Deckard out of retirement to hunt down fugitive replicants.
00:51There was an escape in the off-world colonies two weeks ago. Six replicants. Three male. Three female.
00:56Thirty-four years later, Walsh was not brought back for the film's sequel, but he revealed he has
01:01seen the new trailer. According to Walsh,
01:03"...I thought the trailer looked interesting. If you look at the original Blade Runner, it is considerably
01:08slower than that trailer. I thought Harrison looked good in the shots I saw of him. I don't know who
01:13the kid is." That kid, of course, is Ryan Gosling. Walsh added one final quip,
01:18"...it's sad to know they can make a film without me." Blade Runner 2049 is set to hit theaters
01:23on October 6, 2017. For the full interview with Walsh, including how a bet he made held up
01:29post-production, check out THR.com. I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter News.
