00:00It's such a big night for Broadway, and you're also making your big Broadway return. Tell us about it.
00:06I am bringing a show in. It's a brand new musical that I originated and conceived of with my partner,
00:15my creative partner, Tina Landau, the incredible writer-director.
00:19She actually has a mother play this year.
00:23It's called Redwood, and it's very special, I think, and very moving.
00:27And it's about our ability to heal and our resilience and our strength as human beings.
00:37I love that. And you're, of course, a Broadway icon,
00:39so I know everyone's really looking forward to seeing you back on stage.
00:43I know for a lot of other aspiring performers and artists,
00:47what advice would you give them about building a career on stage?
00:51Oh, honestly.
00:53The advice I would usually give is just to not change themselves for anyone
01:02and to know that what makes them different and what makes them unique
01:07is the thing that they will get hired for.
01:09It just needs to be the right character, the right story.
01:12So just be patient and keep working hard.
01:14I know, finally, Wicked, the movie, is coming out this year.
01:19Have you had a chance to speak to Cynthia at all about the production
01:23and how have those conversations gone?
01:26Oh, yeah, of course.
01:27No, she's been wonderful.
01:29And I haven't given her any advice because she doesn't need any advice.
01:32I think she's so incredibly talented.
01:35I'm just really proud of it.
01:37I'm proud that it's going to reach an even wider audience.
01:41I know it's in wonderful hands with her.
01:43She understands the character and everything The Green Girl is about.
01:47And I'm just excited to see it.
01:50Very quickly, what is your favorite show on or off-Broadway right now this season?
01:55Would you say?
01:56I wouldn't say my favorite because I have friends in so many different ones.
01:59And honestly, I like so many of them.
02:01You can't pick a favorite.
02:03So everyone just has to see all of them.
02:04Yes, exactly.
02:05There's a lot.
02:05There's a lot.
