00:00But at the end of the day, it's a constant battle.
00:04No one's here to save you.
00:06Watch out, they're coming hot!
00:08It's either you do it or you deal with consequences.
00:11Oh!
00:13This is an ice shack.
00:15The truly off-grid fridge.
00:18It needs a lot of work.
00:20Oh, yeah!
00:22Working in the cold is always a big challenge.
00:25Tensels don't start.
00:27No, you .
00:29It can be frustrating, but just put your head down and power through it.
00:33I've never seen a winter like this before.
00:36Too much snow.
00:37Too much snow.
00:39If you don't have it and you need it, it's making something out of nothing.
00:43You think it's wide enough to go across with a heavy pack?
00:46Oh, my God.
00:48This is a feeling I wish everyone could experience.
00:59I live in here like this.
01:14Firewood is everything.
01:16As soon as it gets cold, firewood is the only way to stay warm.
01:20Otherwise, it just freezes to death.
01:26This is pretty much the last of my dry, cured firewood.
01:29There's nothing decent on this whole island worth cutting.
01:31Not nothing that's going to give any heat.
01:33It really would be great if you could just cut down any tree at all and burn it.
01:37But it's not like that.
01:39There's lots of trees around, but to find nice dry wood, it's a whole other ball game.
01:44And right now, I'm definitely run alone.
02:02Pretty much as soon as the winter set in here, I moved down to the kitchen to the main floor.
02:09Traditionally in these old salt box houses, this was the only room that was warm during the winter.
02:13There's no insulation in these old houses.
02:16Heat in this house is like trying to heat a lobster pot.
02:18The heat just goes right at the top.
02:20That's why there's two wood stoves here to keep it warm.
02:23That's why I got a day bed down here now.
02:26But, you know, it's not going to stay very warm much longer.
02:29It's to run out of firewood.
02:31But I do know there is some across the harbor.
02:34I've seen some dry stuff over there up on a cliff.
02:37The problem is getting to it.
02:39I don't want to bring the speedboat over there, get her up on the rocks, beat her down.
02:42My only option now is to use the old dory.
02:46Bring her over there on the cliffs and see if I can pinch a little quick load of dry wood.
02:53The dory is great for multiple reasons.
02:55I can get in some tight spots that I wouldn't be able to get with the big power boat.
02:59But when we tried to christen her, smash that beer across her bow, she wouldn't take it.
03:05That's bad luck.
03:08Everyone knows if you can't christen a boat, it's got to be bad luck.
03:11I don't know if she's actually cursed or not, but I got to get the firewood and this dory is just the best way to do that.
03:17She's about to get her first dip.
03:20I'm not really sure how good idea this is.
03:23It's pretty rough out there.
03:26Come on, Ryan.
03:27Up here.
03:28Oh, come on, my boy.
03:32It's slippery.
03:33Can you stay there?
03:34Here we go, Ryan.
03:36First dip.
03:38Oh.
03:39Oh.
03:40Oh.
03:41Oh.
03:46Stay still, Ryan.
03:47Oh.
03:48She got a tip to her.
03:50She got a tip to her.
03:52Oh.
03:53Stay still, Ryan.
03:55Ronnie.
03:56Ronnie's going to tip me over.
04:01Come on.
04:02Up.
04:03Up.
04:04Oh, my God.
04:05I thought we were going to tip over there.
04:07She's so light on her own that she's basically sitting on top of the water.
04:11She's not sitting in the water.
04:12So we need to load her up some rocks as well as to pull her down.
04:21Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
04:23Sorry, my son.
04:25Too tippy with you in there.
04:27You stay here.
04:29It won't be long.
04:31You stay.
04:32And let's try this again.
04:35Oh, Ryan, tell us a lot better.
04:40I never like leaving Ronnie behind.
04:43He's usually beside me everywhere I go.
04:45But it's not sensible to try and bring him in this small boat and fill it with firewood.
04:51Way better.
04:52Got a bit of ballast in her.
04:54She's sitting low.
04:55Oh, yeah.
04:56This'll do.
04:57Look how fast she is.
04:58Woo!
04:59Next off firewood, baby.
05:01I know this land.
05:02And I've been here many winters.
05:04And I had never seen a winter like this before.
05:08You know, the last few years, that was about three feet of snow.
05:11But this year, man, it's been crazy.
05:12It's like four feet snow at least.
05:13It's amazing.
05:14But more work though, for me.
05:16I know this land.
05:18I know this land.
05:19And I've been here many winters.
05:22And I had never seen a winter like this before.
05:27You know, the last few years, that was about three feet of snow.
05:31But this year, man, it's been crazy.
05:34It's like four feet snow at least.
05:38It's amazing.
05:39But more work though, for me.
05:49My next project will be to build a big, huge forge.
05:53You know, a big blacksmith shop.
05:56I'm looking forward, you know, to work with metal.
05:59This is a new skill that I really want to try and to pursue.
06:04So I can make anything I want.
06:08So now I'm shoveling a big space here in order to build this forge.
06:13And I want it big.
06:17You know, it's always easier to build anything on spring, summer.
06:22But wintertime, you know, at the log cabin, I've got a lot of time.
06:26So I'm going to use this time to build my forge.
06:34It's about five feet here.
06:36You could build a home in there.
06:38It's just crazy.
06:43All right.
06:44This looks pretty good to me.
06:47Ready to build a wall now.
06:53This middle shop will open so many new possibilities for me.
06:58A whole new level of self-reliance.
07:01If I want something, I have to make it myself.
07:04Well, this is all the wood I have had on my land.
07:13I need some more boards.
07:16I've got some old logs with no bark on it.
07:21So maybe I'm going to use it.
07:22These kind of logs, you know, it's back up logs.
07:28We never know when we're going to need it.
07:31So I'm glad I have it.
07:33Okay.
07:35me?
07:36I had a bad feeling, you know, it's a bad feeling.
07:45Close to a foot short.
07:48I just miscalculated.
07:52Disappointed.
07:54I'll see what I've got.
07:57What do I have now?
07:59This one looks good.
08:00This one better work.
08:06Okay.
08:09Perfect.
08:11Yeah.
08:12It looks pretty good.
08:14That was close.
08:22That was the last one.
08:27Hmm.
08:28It's only four walls, but it's like a puzzle, you know?
08:43This goes here.
08:46You come here.
08:51Okay.
08:53Trying to figure it out.
08:58You come here, big guy, because you have an angle for the room.
09:03Okay.
09:05All done.
09:06All done.
09:13It's been a long day.
09:14Alli Lake is a very remote location.
09:30This is it.
09:32It's a place that means a lot to Gilbert.
09:36I grabbed the shovels.
09:38That's where his family's from.
09:39That's where he was raised.
09:42This is really home for Gilbert.
09:48Wow.
09:50He needs a lot of work.
09:52Yep.
09:54Just have to take the snow off and see what we can do.
09:56This is an ice shack.
09:59This is a true off-grid fridge.
10:02Once the whole thing is piled with ice, it lasts the whole summer.
10:10We spend our summers here, and having an ice shack is going to help us preserve our food.
10:15Preserve our fish, our caribou, so that we can keep it cold.
10:18Parky, come here.
10:20When you're somewhere remote, you've got to try to work with the elements and not rely on gas and electricity, because, you know, you don't have it available.
10:33A lot of snow.
10:34A lot of snow.
10:37The ice shack hasn't really been used in a couple of years.
10:40It's been in a pretty rough shape.
10:43It's not a stable structure at all.
10:45It's all collapsed in the center.
10:48I really want to fix this up, so we can start storing some ice in here.
10:53But it's not really holding by much.
10:57The biggest challenge right now is that we don't have the supplies really to fix it.
11:00We only have what's here, and there's not much, so we'll use what we have.
11:09We do have an old cabin that's been sitting there for years.
11:13We're going to try to salvage the wood, and if it's not usable, then at least we can burn it and keep ourselves warm.
11:26There we go.
11:30Oh, yeah.
11:34You think the sweat is so good?
11:35Yeah.
11:39Big nails.
11:40Yeah, those are massive nails.
11:44Living off-grid forces you to be resourceful and be creative.
11:49All right, this is really heavy.
11:51If you don't have it, then you need it.
11:54You just have to make something out of nothing.
11:57All right, let's go.
12:01This lifestyle is sure not for everyone.
12:13I'm doing it because I love the challenge.
12:16I like to test myself.
12:19For me, that's living life to the fullest.
12:20I'm back to the place where I started to build that bridge last year, where nothing worked out.
12:34Last spring, I had the great idea to try to build a bridge during the spring flood.
12:41It was just not possible. The water was getting so high so fast.
12:46It was a pretty big disaster.
12:49So I'm still wanting to finish that bridge project because there's some good moose country on the other side of the creek.
13:03I'm hoping I can go hunting there next fall.
13:06So if I can have a bridge, I'm able to cross back and forth.
13:10Especially if you go hunting and you have a big, heavy backpack, it can be easier to cross.
13:15That's why I want to try again, but using the winter to be able to walk on the ice, it's going to be easier to build the bridge.
13:25Alex is back.
13:28It's always nice to have another human around and have someone to talk to and more company than just the dogs.
13:36Another set of hands to help me with big projects like this one.
13:40I missed him.
13:42Good to be back out here on the trapline and to see Margot.
13:47I hope that working together, we can get this done.
13:50We just have to be a little bit careful here working on the ice.
13:55There's still water running underneath here. You can hear it gurgling.
14:00Getting wet out here in the winter is always a danger.
14:05You can catch hypothermia quickly.
14:10Right now I'm checking the ice to see if the spot is safe to build the bridge.
14:15The ice looks pretty thick, so I think we're safe and we can actually start building.
14:26That's the tree where you're thinking?
14:28I think that's the best one.
14:30Let's do it.
14:31My biggest worries are that the tree is not going to be long enough or not thick enough when it falls on the other side.
14:43And also that the whole thing slides down the river and that we're not able to pull it back up.
14:48We're putting a couple logs under the tree. Just when we're going to cut it, we don't want it to slide down on the river.
15:00So hopefully those little logs just hold it in place here so we can have it stay on that bank.
15:06Okay.
15:07Every time we use chainsaw, you always have to think about safety, of course, but even more in the winter.
15:19Just to be careful, it's going to come down quick.
15:22There is lots of snow and it's harder to move fast if the tree doesn't fall where you want it.
15:27It's going! Get out!
15:30You stay on the bank on this side.
15:39Yeah, it held on here good.
15:41I think it still reaches on the beach.
15:45It should be kind of perfect.
15:53So we're going to build a pillar like a little tower to put the bridge on.
15:57So the bridge will be hopefully higher than the water level.
16:04These are maybe 70 to 100 pounds, the heavier ones here.
16:09They'll make solid foundation for our pillar over there.
16:12It's okay.
16:14Moving logs, it's heavy enough, but moving logs through this deep snow, it's pretty demanding.
16:20That's the biggest part of building something in the winter is dealing with that snow.
16:27Even though it's hard work, I've got something to prove.
16:32I don't want to fail again.
16:37I really want this bridge to work, but I also want to beat that damn river.
16:41Well, the frame is done. Now I'm ready for the forge itself. It's an antique forge that I got.
17:02Right now it's pretty far from the cabin, so I've got to get it.
17:08But this thing, well, it's so heavy.
17:12It's like at least 200 pounds, something like that.
17:15And I cannot carry it by myself.
17:17Not even on my back. It's just impossible.
17:19There is so much snow and I don't have a sleigh.
17:21So I've got to find a way to do it.
17:31Hell yeah.
17:33That's pretty big.
17:40I just saw my canoe and I said, yeah, let's use a canoe.
17:43Pretty sure I can just put the forge on the top, pull it.
17:51We don't say that every day, putting a forge in a canoe.
17:57This part is very, very fragile.
18:02Okay.
18:07Man, this is heavy.
18:09Come on, big guy.
18:15Away, away, away, away.
18:17The plywood is just bending so much.
18:21I broke it.
18:23Yeah, I broke it.
18:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:30It's getting worse and worse, man.
18:32I need some straps because right now the canoe will just open up.
18:38Mm.
18:46Being on my land is never boring.
18:49Every day is different.
18:51There's always challenge.
18:55And I love challenge.
18:58This is part of the game, you know?
19:00It's part of the game.
19:03Okay, that's good.
19:05Let's see if it works.
19:07Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
19:19Back, back, back.
19:22Maybe it's better if I go on the back, man.
19:25Even down there.
19:26Pull and push.
19:27Pull and push.
19:35Pull and push.
19:36Yeah, I'm not even halfway yet.
20:01It's so heavy, it's like too much snow.
20:06So, oh, this is what I'm going to do, it's going to go faster.
20:12I'm just going to get my tools and rope.
20:18You know, there is a kind of self-reliance that lifestyle demands.
20:25You always have to find new ideas.
20:28Okay.
20:29You have to figure it out.
20:31It's the only option.
20:36Yeah, it's working good.
20:45Oh, man, that wasn't a danger.
20:53It's here, and I found another use for my canoe.
20:57I feel like I'm running to something more than I'm running from something.
21:20I can see what I want out here.
21:23For me, it's all about chasing freedom.
21:30Oh, my God.
21:31This is a feeling I wish everyone could experience.
21:35Able to enjoy this whole other world.
21:37Happy boy, I'm a happy boy.
21:46I'm going to try and find some firewood.
21:50I see loads of firewood right up there, lots of good stuff.
21:53But not a good place for landing.
21:58Yeah, if I try and land here, yeah, you wouldn't be alone getting yourself tore up in these rocks.
22:04These rocks and this ice take the bottom right of the boat.
22:08I'm going to find somewhere else.
22:11Got no choice.
22:11Well, the old roadboat might be cursed, but I tell you, boy, so far, so good.
22:27We're here.
22:30That's where all the good wood is.
22:32I can see lots of it up there.
22:33My God, this is sheer.
22:36Need to get a billy goat in here and strap a chainsaw to him.
22:39Got to hurry up and do this because tide's on the way in.
22:43Before we're long, this whole beach will be underwater.
22:46Want to get the wood, I got to get it now.
22:50This cliff right here is exactly why Newfoundland is nicknamed the rock.
22:54Because all it is is massive rocks sitting out in the Atlantic Ocean.
22:59Oh.
23:00Thank God.
23:02This is it.
23:03I know a lot of these trees don't look like much to the untrained eye.
23:06These little things here, these are called stunned wood around here.
23:10It's not 100% dry and 100% green.
23:13If you can get them burning, they burn hot.
23:15And around here, this is really the best you're going to do is this stuff.
23:18That one little tree right there, a few hours of burning just in that one.
23:23The next part is, the dory is just right there.
23:25So I can just cut all this down and then just throw it right over the cliff, right into the dory.
23:31Well, only one thing left to do now, boy.
23:34Let the big dog eat.
23:35When you're out in the bush, you really got to think a couple steps ahead.
23:58It just makes you more prepared.
24:00It's always something that you need to keep in the back of your mind.
24:07And building an ice cabin is definitely thinking a couple steps ahead.
24:17Right now, the roof, it's looking like this in the center.
24:20So we want to try to push something underneath to bring it straight.
24:27That looks really good, Gilbert.
24:28That looks really solid.
24:33There's going to be the leverage.
24:35Okay.
24:36Yeah, yeah, that'll work really good.
24:38Yeah.
24:38Well, hopefully that'll hold when we push it up.
24:45All right.
24:46You ready?
24:47One, two, three.
24:53It's moving up.
24:55Yeah, it's one up.
24:57Okay, so you want me to step on it?
25:01Yeah.
25:04All right.
25:05What do you want me to do?
25:06Just keep stepping up.
25:07I'm going to put a little chimney under it.
25:09Oh, yeah.
25:21Got it.
25:22Working.
25:23Working.
25:27I'm going to put another chimney here.
25:30I think this little contraption thing that we've got going on here is working so far.
25:36We're definitely able to bring it up a little bit more every time.
25:42I think we're just going to have to keep going inch by inch.
25:46Oh, yes.
25:47It's on there.
25:47Yeah.
25:48Oh, yeah.
25:49Good.
25:49It's supporting.
25:50We got it raised maybe a foot.
25:54We're bracing it now.
25:57That should be good enough.
26:01We're going to start harvesting some ice blocks, and then we're going to start stacking up the ice shack.
26:06Last spring, I went exploring on the other side of the river, and I found really good moose country.
26:27But rivers can be dangerous, especially in the spring when the water can be pretty strong.
26:35F*** me.
26:36People can get swept away pretty easily.
26:38This bridge means a lot because I will have easy access to those hunting grounds, and hopefully it means more access to food.
26:50We want to build the pillar as high as the bank on the other side, so it's higher above the water level when the water is higher in the spring.
27:03It looks pretty sturdy.
27:13I think it's going to be strong enough to hold if there's a big flood during the spring.
27:17And now comes the biggest challenge, which is putting that tree on top of the pillar.
27:26It's a very heavy tree.
27:28It's hundreds of pounds.
27:30So we'll have to find a little system to bring it up.
27:34We want to make sure we don't pull that whole tree down the river while we're jacking it up.
27:39If that thing falls into the river on the other side, it would be game over for us.
27:45So Alex is securing the other end right now to make sure it stays in place.
27:50Hopefully it works.
27:59Ready?
28:00One, two, three.
28:02Okay.
28:03One, two, three.
28:06One, two, three.
28:09Okay.
28:10One, two, three.
28:12Wait.
28:15Oh, I'll step on it.
28:17I didn't.
28:18Okay.
28:19Okay.
28:19One, two, three.
28:21A little more.
28:24One, two, three.
28:27No.
28:28On tape.
28:29No.
28:30Can you hold or I will?
28:32No, can you hold?
28:32Can you?
28:33Can you hold?
28:35I'm going to try wrapping this thing right around me.
28:39Okay.
28:39One, two, three.
28:42One, two, three.
28:43This is really hanging up.
28:46Should I just cut this?
28:48Yep.
28:55No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
28:58It's just kind of flat.
29:10Okay.
29:12You're going to hold.
29:14Okay.
29:14One, two, three.
29:20We're on.
29:22Okay.
29:22In place.
29:26It's in there?
29:27Yeah.
29:27That's perfect.
29:28Okay.
29:29Good job.
29:31Having the tree up there now is, the big part is done.
29:36I think it's high enough for the water in the spring.
29:40I think it's going to be safe.
29:43But it's far from being done.
29:44We milled some boards back at camp for the bridge.
29:50But it would be much easier if I can put all the planks in the sled pulled by the dogs.
29:56What I'm most worried about will be probably that big steep hill.
30:00It's pretty vertical and it's going to be a little intense, I think.
30:05The fort is here.
30:16The anvil will be around here.
30:18So it's like I'll be working here.
30:21Make sure it's warm enough and bring it here and talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
30:25Working on the anvil and back.
30:27I see it now.
30:29Yeah.
30:29Yeah.
30:35This is the original fan from the forge.
30:39You know, that was a hand crank here.
30:42But the last owner put an electric motor to it.
30:46So now there is only one way to know if it works.
30:50To plug it in.
30:52It has to work, this guy, you know.
30:54After all that work, it needs to work.
31:00The power is coming from the solar panel system.
31:04So, this is the moment of truth.
31:09Okay.
31:15Oh!
31:18Ah!
31:20Ah!
31:22It looks crooked a bit.
31:25It's not in line.
31:26F***.
31:28The legs are crooked here.
31:29How come it's not working, maybe?
31:34Needs to be a little bit.
31:36Oh!
31:36Okay.
31:37This is one.
31:41Okay.
31:42And this is two.
31:44Here we go.
31:44Woo!
31:46Okay.
31:47It's more in line.
31:57Let's do it again.
31:59Second try.
32:00Yeah!
32:07Woo-hoo-hoo!
32:08Yeah!
32:09Yeah, that's great!
32:12Oh, man.
32:13I feel the air.
32:14Ha-ha-ha!
32:16That's just enough force to feed the fire to make it work.
32:21Hey, man.
32:22Now I just need to start a fire on it.
32:24This is old school.
32:35I like to bring back some tradition, and this is very old tradition here.
32:40I'm just looking for embers now.
32:43There are some coals here.
32:45Let's start the fan.
32:46Oh, man.
32:54That's working a lot.
32:56Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
32:57Oh, yeah.
32:59This is exactly what I want to see.
33:02The coals are so red now.
33:05That's crazy.
33:07It's working, and it's going to be very hot.
33:10I can't wait to put some metal into it.
33:14I feel great.
33:17This is just a big step for me.
33:20This is the forge I always wanted.
33:24I can work middle now.
33:25I can build anything here.
33:27A new world is opening to me.
33:29It's still nice, and I'm a little concerned it might not be thick enough for ice blocks, but hopefully it is, and we can continue harvesting ice.
33:53Where do you want it?
34:03Right here.
34:04Right here.
34:04Right here.
34:04That's a really nice piece.
34:17Yeah.
34:18Yeah, this is a really good spot.
34:20Yeah, that's what we're looking for.
34:21Good.
34:21How much do you think these blocks weigh?
34:38Like, 40 pounds?
34:39Yeah.
34:40Oh, yeah.
34:43All right, last one for now.
34:46Good.
34:46This is the first ice harvesting of the season, so it's okay if we don't get a lot of ice blocks.
34:56They're slippery.
34:57They're so slippery.
34:59But at least we're getting it started, and then throughout the season, we'll continue to add more ice to the ice cabin.
35:06Now we know where to get the ice.
35:07Okay.
35:08All right.
35:08All right.
35:16Having an ice cabin is going to be really important for us in the summertime when we're here.
35:30That works pretty good.
35:31Because filling it up with ice is going to last all the way through probably September.
35:36Oh, my God.
35:37And then we'll be able to store some food in the summertime.
35:41Yeah.
35:43That works.
35:44Stack them up really nice.
35:51That's the last one?
35:52The last one.
35:54Yeah.
35:59This will act as insulation, right?
36:01Yeah, it's insulation.
36:03Everything that we've used on this ice cabin is from repurposed material.
36:09Amazing how much we can get done with scrap and stuff we find.
36:14Good for now.
36:17Yeah, it looks awesome.
36:20There you go.
36:22When we come back with more supplies, then we can really fix it up.
36:26Maybe eventually we could put a newer roof on.
36:28Yeah.
36:29It's not super pretty to look at, but it looks like it's going to do the job for now.
36:33We did it.
36:34All right, let's go get some coffee.
36:37Coffee time.
36:38Coffee time.
36:49Hey, come here.
36:50I'm excited to get this done.
36:56Oh, boy.
36:57Are you so happy to go?
36:59We milled some boards back at camp for the bridge.
37:03But it's going to take forever if we have to walk back and forth with the planks.
37:07Line up!
37:08Line up!
37:09So if we can get it done in one shot with the dogs, then it will save us a lot of time.
37:18Everybody behave today, please.
37:20Coming down to the river, it's a very steep hill.
37:30And if the dogs panic, they might just top right away.
37:34Easy.
37:36I'm worried I'm going to hit them if I'm too fast.
37:40Easy.
37:41It's going to be intense.
37:43Watch out, they're coming up!
37:44Come on, boys.
37:53Woo!
37:54We made it!
37:56Holy s***!
37:57You okay?
37:58That was fast.
38:00Come on, boys.
38:03The dogs did good.
38:04Good job, boys.
38:06They didn't stop and I didn't smack into them.
38:09Come on, boys.
38:10Good, boys.
38:11It's a good adrenaline shot and it was fun.
38:14Good, boys.
38:16Good boy, Eichor.
38:19Well, now we got the boards here.
38:21Saved us a lot of carrying.
38:24Hope that'll be enough.
38:34We flattened the top here, so it's a little more stable for the board to go on.
38:40We're using the logs, so it's a little wider to walk on, especially if we have big backpacks
38:47if we go hunting.
38:48You get to put the last board in.
39:02I think it's pretty good for a bush bridge.
39:05You're going to go try it out?
39:06Yep.
39:07You think it's wide enough to go across with a heavy pack?
39:18Kind of bouncy, but it's wide enough.
39:20A little bush engineering and made it work.
39:29It was a pretty hard job, but it's done.
39:32It's not a fancy bridge, but it beats swimming through that raging river anyways.
39:37I know a lot of people like to romanticize this type of life, but at the end of the day,
39:53it's hard work.
39:56It's a constant battle.
40:00No one's here to save you.
40:02It's either you do it or you deal with consequences.
40:05That's the worst of it.
40:10You definitely got a good boatload of wood there.
40:12All I got to do is load her up, back to the kitchen, drink cup of tea in no time.
40:17Oh, Lord, that is some view.
40:21Look at this.
40:22It's amazing this is my backyard.
40:24It's absolutely amazing.
40:28It's hard work.
40:29It's a hard country out here.
40:31When I look out over views like this, it really makes it worth it.
40:35Same rocks, the same cliffs they were looking at a thousand years ago.
40:40It's very humbling.
40:50Good load of wood, that's for sure.
40:51The boat's not that big, so I want to cut this wood to fit kind of perfectly into the boat
41:00so I can get as much as I can at home in one load.
41:03Old-timers say firewood heats you up three times.
41:15One's cutting it, one's getting it to the wood stove, and one's when she goes in the wood stove.
41:19This is number two for me.
41:26Loading up on a rising tide like this, you're constantly trying to keep the boat from drying out.
41:31Look, I'm leaving you.
41:32It's nothing like a thing worse than standing on the beach while watching your boat drift away.
41:43You know that the only option to get that boat back would be to strip down and pray that you can swim fast,
41:49especially out here in the wintertime.
41:53That's it.
41:53She's maxed.
41:54Well, now all I got to do is get her home.
42:04She definitely feels heavier than when she had rocks, that's for sure.
42:08Come on, old girl.
42:10You might be cursed, but you ain't going to sink today.
42:13Not on my watch.
42:21The old cursed boat did pretty good.
42:23That was her first real job.
42:26She did great.
42:27And we got a nice load of wood out of it.
42:29Now let's get all this up to the wood stove and sit back and enjoy it.
42:35Not going to freeze to death tonight.
42:40Coming in with a nice iron load of dry wood for a fire and have a Ronnie there waiting for me.
42:45Nice little warm house up on the hill.
42:49I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:53I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:54I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:55I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:56I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:57I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:58I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:59I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:00I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:01I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:02I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:03I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:04I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:05I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:06I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:07I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:08I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
43:09I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
