Transcript
00:00So yes, dramatic scenes from central London on Wednesday. The latest in a series of farmer
00:10processes involving the use of tractors here in the capital. This time it was to protest
00:17Wednesday's budget. More than a dozen tractors could be seen here parked outside Parliament
00:24on Wednesday morning, with rush hour traffic brought to a standstill and farmers repeatedly
00:32sounding the tractor horns while police stood watching. We heard from David Gunn, an arable
00:40farmer and agricultural contractor from near Sevenoaks in Kent. He said he was protesting
00:48over the government move to put inheritance tax on farm businesses worth more than $1
00:54million, while another farmer humorously attended the event dressed as Father Christmas, with
01:01his tractor carrying a large spruce tree and bearing a sign that read Farmer Christmas, the
01:08naughty list Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, David Lamy, Diane Abbott, Angela Rayner and the BBC.
01:16As mentioned, a number of people were arrested at the demonstration. However, political party
01:23Reform UK has since said it would pay for the defence of farmers arrested at the demonstration,
01:31saying the arrests were outrageous. The Chancellor's plans to introduce a 20% rate on agricultural
01:39land and businesses worth over £1 million have become a political flashpoint.
