China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on November 17 that Premier Li Qiang will not meet Japanese leaders at the G20 summit, following controversial remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Taiwan.

China says Takaichi’s comments “severely hurt the feelings of the Chinese people” and undermine bilateral relations. The Chinese government urged Japan to retract the remarks, act responsibly in line with historical agreements, and respect commitments on the Taiwan issue.

The press briefing also addressed rising tensions over South Korea-Japan disputes, U.S. allegations against Chinese tech company Alibaba, and regional security concerns.

00:00I can tell you that Premier Li Chang has no arrangements to meet with Japanese leaders.
00:18Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Sinei Takechi's erroneous remarks,
00:23China has repeatedly clarified its solemn position.
00:25These remarks seriously violate the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan
00:31and fundamentally undermine the political foundation of China-Japan relations.
00:35During the discussions on the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan,
00:39China clearly put forward three principles for the normalization of diplomatic relations.
00:43First, the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the Chinese people.
00:47Second, Taiwan province is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China.
00:51The so-called Treaty of Sheminiseki is illegal and invalid, and should be abolished.
01:00The 1972 China-Japan Joint Statement was signed,
01:04and the two countries officially established diplomatic relations.
01:09The Joint Statement contains three sections concerning the Taiwan issue.
01:13First, the preamble states that the Japanese side reiterates its position of seeking to achieve
01:18the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan on the basis of a full understanding
01:23of the three principles for the normalization of diplomatic relations put forward by the government
01:27of the People's Republic of China.
01:32Second, Article 2 of the statement states that the government of Japan recognizes the government
01:37of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China.
01:43Third, Article 3 of the statement states that the government of the People's Republic of China
01:48reiterates that Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory.
01:55The government of Japan fully understands and respects this position of the Chinese government
02:00and adheres to the Potsdam Declaration.
02:07The above are the clear provisions on the Taiwan issue made in the four political documents
02:11between China and Japan, and also the solemn commitments made by the Japanese government,
02:16which have the force of international law and leave no room for ambiguity or misinterpretation.
02:23Regardless of which party or individual is in power in Japan,
02:26they must adhere to and uphold the Japanese government's commitment
02:29on the Taiwan issue.
02:34We urge the Japanese side to act responsibly towards history and bilateral relations,
02:39stop playing with fire, retract its erroneous remarks,
02:43and truly reflect its commitments to China in the consultations you mentioned.
02:50If there is any news, we will release it promptly.
02:52I want to emphasize that regarding Japan, regarding Prime Minister Kishida's erroneous
02:59remarks on Taiwan, China has already and will continue to lodge serious representations
03:04and strong protests with Japan, and solemnly demands that Japan immediately reflect on its
03:09mistakes, retract the erroneous remarks, and cease its erroneous actions.
03:13For some time, there have been frequent criminal cases against Chinese citizens in Japan, and there
03:22have also been some extreme and threatening remarks against China in Japanese society and on the
03:27internet.
03:27China is highly concerned about this, and it is entirely reasonable for relevant departments
03:35to issue warnings.
03:38Japanese Prime Minister Kishida's erroneous remarks on Taiwan have seriously hurt the feelings of the
03:43Chinese people and severely worsened the atmosphere of China-Japan personnel exchanges.
03:47Japan should adhere to the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan,
03:54immediately correct its mistakes, and prevent further damage to China-Japan relations.
04:00Regarding the joint public opinion survey you mentioned, I would like to say that Prime Minister
04:05Kishida's recent remarks on Taiwan have seriously undermined the political foundation of China-Japan
04:10relations and worsened the atmosphere between the two countries.
04:13The environment and conditions for the previous China-Japan joint public opinion survey results
04:19have undergone significant changes.
04:21The realism of the relevant results and the timing of their release need to be reconsidered.
04:27The relevant responsibility lies entirely with the erroneous remarks of the Japanese leader.
04:34We have noted the relevant reports on the above issues.
04:37Recently, many of Japan's egregious actions have aroused vigilance, dissatisfaction, and protests
04:42from neighboring countries.
04:44We urge Japan to deeply reflect on its history of aggression, adhere to the path of peaceful
04:49development, and gain the trust of its Asian neighbors through concrete actions.
04:57Relevant companies have already responded.
05:01I want to tell you that the Chinese government highly values and protects data privacy and security
05:06in accordance with the law, and has never and will never require companies to collect or store
05:10data in violation of the law.
05:15China consistently opposes actions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized
05:20by the UN Security Council.
05:21China has repeatedly stated its position on relevant issues, and we hope that South Korea
05:34are saved based upon the requirements of Israel will be refused to
05:57deze Tony.
