Police detained a group of students at Leiden University after protesters occupied parts of the campus calling for a full academic boycott of Israel. Demonstrators staged a sit-in demanding the university cut institutional ties with Israeli partners, citing ongoing concerns over the war in Gaza and alleged human rights violations.

Authorities said the occupation violated campus regulations and posed safety concerns, prompting police intervention. Officers physically removed students who refused to leave after repeated warnings. Video from the scene shows protesters chanting slogans, holding banners, and linking arms before being carried out by police.

00:00So my fellow students of Lydan University are occupying this building today to the
00:27demand that Lydan University cuts all of its institutional ties with Israeli universities,
00:35including and especially the EU Horizon program ties that continuously every year send billions
00:43of dollars to Israel in the form of institutional ties. And the reason why is because Israeli
00:51universities are directly complicit in the genocide and occupation of Palestine. They are not neutral
00:59institutions. They collaborate with military equipment, development of military equipment,
01:05development of propaganda. Some of them are built on internationally recognized illegal settlements
01:12and they validate the state of Israel and its attack on Palestinian territories and lives.
01:21We do understand that there is a ceasefire in Gaza now. However, there has been more than 400 violations
01:30of the ceasefire by Israel since it started.
01:47Unlike what the news report, unlike what Western media likes to think and what our Western governments
01:53might like to spread, that there is a ceasefire happening in Gaza, we continue to demand our
01:58institutions to take action. We demand accountability from them. There is no ceasefire in Gaza. People
02:04have been, keep on being killed, keep on being bombed. We have now the natural catastrophes. The floods
02:11are horrible. There is so much humanitarian crisis happening. And our universities, our governments,
02:17our jobs, all of them are still complicit in this genocide. Today, we demand from Lydan University,
02:23as they, in the most hypocritical stand, are doing an action, are doing a lecture in honor and in the legacy of
02:31Rudolf Kleveringa, a anti-fascist professor who used to stand up for his Jewish colleagues during the Nazi occupation.
02:39We demand the same behavior today. We demand accountability. We demand a full academic boycott.
02:45We demand a full divestment from Israeli institutions. We don't demand both-sided reports and statements.
02:52We do not want to continue waiting for the university to make the basic necessary steps in order to
02:59actually stop their complicity in this genocide. And we call on to Lydan University today to honor the
03:07legacy of Kleveringa, and to honor their students' demands, and to do a full academic boycott.
03:21to honor their students' demands, and to honor their students' demands, and to honor their students' demands.
03:31We demand a full divestment of new people to make the basic necessary steps in order to make the basic necessary steps of the
