Barnaby Joyce announces resignation from Nationals Party after 30 years

The former deputy prime minister and current Member for New England told the Parliament on November 27, 2025, that it is with a ‘heavy heart’ that he leaves the National Party after three decades.

00:20change, when they talk about generational change, it is pretty clear what people want.

00:26One of the biggest things, Madam Deputy Speaker, is that after five weeks—I announced this

00:31about five weeks ago—apart from a 90-second phone conversation with the Leader, I have

00:36had no communication with either the Leader of the National Party or the Deputy Leader of

00:39the National Party to try and resolve this, and that is disappointing.

00:43So after 30 years with the National Party, I am resigning from the Party.

00:48That really leaves me with a heavy heart, and I apologise for all the hurt that that will

00:52cause other people.

00:53I really do.

00:54But it is not the most important thing.

00:56What is really important is that we understand those dealing with the cost-of-living crisis,

01:00that we go into bat for them.

01:02What is really important is that they are still building intermittent power precincts and swindle

01:06factories in regional areas and destroying communities such as my own.

01:10What is really important is that the Chinese Communist government are breathing down our necks

01:13and each day become more provocative.

01:16What is really important is that we have regional hospitals with our doctors in them.

01:22What I have to do, if I am going to continue on that fight, is get myself into a better position

01:27than the ejection chair at the back bench of the coalition in opposition.
